While some people clearly suffer from extreme cases, millions suffer only from minor cases of autism. The history of mathematics and physics is populated by borderline autistics. Answer 50 questions about yourself on a web page, and a simple program spits out a number between 1 and 32. The higher the number, the closer you are to autism.

I scored a 22.

The main things that stuck out to me were: I'm awful with details (numbers, names, dates, etc.), I prefer non-social activities though I've "taught" myself to appear social (all things in moderation!), and I have a very active imagination.

Still, I'm surprised at how "high" my score was.

I am great with phone numbers, but I always forget names of new people and don't do good with remembering birthdays, etc.

I like social events with people I am familiar with, but not with a bunch of people I don't know. One exceptiopn was the SD Comic Con last year. I felt at home there, even though there were over 100,000 people I didn't know. I guess it's because there were lots of people like me, and I didn't have to worry about some stupid fool starting shizznit.

I am very creative and have a vivid imagination. I notice small details, especially via ear, but it seems like lately, my main hearing has been screwing up. If I am talking to someone in a crowded locale, I can pick up on the conversations of people all around easily, but I am constantly having to ask the person that I am talking with, to repeat themselves. Not really a hearing problem, but more of a "my brain wants to focus on the perimeter more than the immediate" issue.

I scored a 27.

I like social events with people I am familiar with, but not with a bunch of people I don't know.

I totaly agree with that. For the past year or so my social life has been close to non-existant. I think that is in part why I got a fairly high score.

I actualy have known autistic guy since we were children. He knew dozens of details about every American president (dates, wives names, ect). One day during our childhood he doing something of a trick where he would ask for a few pieces of information (I cant remember what they were) and then could somehow tell you what day you were born on. He took my mom's infromation and responed with "happy birthday, todays your birthday", a small detail that had untill then eluded my entire family!

I got a 16. I have an active imagination; good with number type stuff; not so great with names and such; get along easily with others; however, I usually like to be by myself (with the exception of my girlfriend and dogs).

Well, at the moment I top the cake with 28! I expected it to be higher. One of my best friends at school was an autistic kid! He must have rubbed off on my a little. Seriously! This guy was an Anime Fanatic! He could remember The titles of each individual episode of an anime he was watching, and ENTIRE Dialogue throughout a series! For instance he would watch Yugioh or pokemon on the weekend, then if I missed it he could act out the whole show for me at lunch time, character voices and all, he was dead on too. It was amazing! I only see him from time to time since we graduated, but he immediately recognizes me, and start talking to me as if it has only been like a day since we last talked.

33????

It seems like many of the questions also apply to Depression. I read up on AS characteristics and they don't really apply to me at all.

Ok, I took it again changing some of my Definitely's to slightly's since I might have been overexaggerating a little and got a 33 again :) :D

39. "Most people with Asperger's Syndrome or high functioning autism score about 35."

And here I am suspecting heavily that I actually DO have Asperger's. Now I become even more paranoid...

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

To be honest, you've never struck me as the most tactful fellow. However, this may have nothing to do with any potential Aspergers diagnosis.

:notme:

On a seperate but related note, I've been wanting to start a thread asking the question: What does it take to become a frequent member of AKIA. (That is, besides having thick enough skin to deal with Veers.)

While I'm not suggesting one must have Aspergers to be a regular contributor, I do have to say I'm not surprised at some of the high scores we've gotten.

For instance, my fiancee is super-extroverted -- quite the opposite of me -- she gets her energy by spending time with people. I get my energy by spending time alone reading, writing, drawing, working on various projects, etc.

I would imagine the latter is true for a number of people here. I suspect that's one reason why there have been several highish scores.

No, not at all.

But, like Soupie mentioned, if there is a question that is worth asking, you usually are the one to ask it. Even when others would shy away from asking it for reasons of tact.

Don't worry about it Jensen. You're just a bit nerdy/geeky like the rest of us.

I think 2 things:

1. A love for the hobby
2. A strong sense of community with fellow collectors of that line.

Yeah, I think that there would have to be some level of introvertedness, since an extrovert would rather be out of the house with friends, instead of online with them.

No. I think that's the only thing you need.:notme: It may take a while for some of us to get the callouses started, but after you've thickened up It's all good. And sometimes I find Veers personality quite refreshing.B)

But seriously, I'd agree with Jon, a devotion to the hobby, and interest in fellow collectors are a main factor. As well as a kinship in general. I mean if I didn't come here, or other boards, there would be practically nobody else to talk to about my hobbies. The closest muscle collector I know is a whole state away!

In my case, it's a sense of community, since I'm not a collector and I don't follow the manga as much as I used to. But I enjoy reading stuff posted and posting some stuff of my own here.

I wonder if I should contact Matthew Lesko to see if its worth my while to seek a diagnosis?

Hmmm... Having looked at the definitions of "Tact" and thought back to questions I've asked... I don't get the point. Except that time I asked if Veers was... nevermind. That's the only tactless question I can remember. More Proof? Am I Just Blunt? Am I An :notme: like Veers?

Let me put it to you this way.

In the "Remind you of anything?" thread, I'm not mentioning the photo in question by name, not even describing it. The photos other people posted hint at it, but nothing more.

You go and describe the picture in question with some detail. (A foot wide? :notme: ).

Tact is where you go and PM the description to TOPHER and give only him the heebie-jeebies. B)

First, I'm not saying you completely lack "tact," just that you are not the most tactful. You're obviously a bright guy, that helps!

As for an example: A while back when Arforbes let it be known that he had two BHSs, he was addressing a lot of tough questions about his collecting ethics and misleading AKIA friends.

In the midst of it all, you brought up some past deal in which arforbes didn't respond to your request that he break up a lot of UM figures he was selling so you could buy them.

B)

(I can dig it up, if you want me too.)

Ultimately, it doesn't bother me. I think you are a great guy just the way you are. However, you did ask for people's opinions.
