The question for this tournament is, "Which is the overall better figure?"

Note: This tournament features many different types of figures, please consider the entirety of a figure (sculpt, detailing, materials, originality, etc.) when voting. Additionally we ask for understanding with the lack of consistent pictures. Do not dismiss a figure because of a poor picture. Please feel free to post a better picture of the figure you selected.

GAG. Two of those ugly-ass robots.

Abstain.

I still say the guy with the fishbowl on his head should've won.

This is the championship? Seriously?!?!? Veers, I commend you on yet another fun tournament, but I have to be honest, the voters in this one really dissapointed me. These IMO are two of the lamest figures in the tournament. They must seriously be some fan favorites from our youth or something because I dont get the appeal at all. I would have chosen any of the SW figures in this tournament over these two clowns for my collection. I voted Soundwave, but dont really give a crap who wins.

I agree with half of your statements Doc. Grimlock is a dud, but Soundwave really is a great figure. This is the worst final I can remember. I think it's safe to say that lots of votes in this tournament were based on qualities physically unrelated to the figure.

If we had a tournament of champions, I don't think these two figures would manage to get very far (and I like Soundwave).

soundwave: soundwave superior, grimlock inferior.

grimlock: no one call me grimlock interior decorator. me grimlock smash you.

soundwave: ravage, laserbeak, buzzsaw, ratbat, rumble, frenzy, slugfest, overkill, squawktalk, beastbox attack!

grimlock: me grimlock have friends too. hey you guys, stop staring at that rock and help me grimlock. guys? aghhhhhhh!

see, grimlock may be a champion, but soundwave is a general. he can easily defeat grimlock in hand to hand (laser to laser) combat if needed. but he understands that his importance is leading and would delegate kicking grimlocks ass to his cartridge sidekicks. grimlock may also have the dinobots as his hommies, but let's face it. they're morons for the most part. when they're not fighting each other they're hopelessly confused. grimlock facing 11-1 odds. he's effed.

soundwave wins.

The reason Transformers won is that the figures (for the most part) are all equally strong. A lot of the best Star Wars and especially the best Marvel figures weren't even in the tournament. Transformers won due to uniformity of quality.

EDIT: I voted for Soundwave. Also i would like to make it clear that i am in no way complaining about the tournament.

soundwave: soundwave superior, grimlock inferior.

Darn you for stealing my line!

I think the one thing this tournament has taught me is that, even if you have the most awesome nostalgic science fiction characters as deformed toys, they'll go down in a heartbeat if their style is not to most of our liking. Thanks to this tourney, I've gone from finding the Galactic Heroes to be a bit neat, to outright hating them. The less static, almost proportional bodies of the Robot and Combat Heroes have helped them do well in this tournament despite overwhelming odds from Galactic Heroes. Once this tournament got about halfway, I figured something like this might happen.

Also, NEVER underestimate the love for robots in disguise.

I disagree with the notion that these figures suck and don't deserve to be in the finals. Maybe blocky robots isn't your thing, but for me, it's difficult to picture any of the opponents that these figures faced as being better:

Grimlock
Round 1: Punisher
Round 2: Darth Maul
Round 3: Firefly
Round 4: Hammerhead
Round 5: Snake Eyes

Soundwave
Round 1: Thor
Round 2: Luke w/ Yoda
Round 3: Deadpool
Round 4: Rumble
Round 5: Storm Shadow

Exceptions should be made for Storm Shadow and Firefly; I think these figures were the only real contenders. Maybe you could argue that Grimlock and Soundwave were riding on nostalgia votes, but I would argue that votes for most of the Star Wars figures are based almost solely on nostalgia. It's hard to believe that someone, with no knowledge of either TFs or SW, would pick Hammerhead over Grimlock. Or Luke w/ Yoda over Soundwave.

Maybe part of this is the Galactic Hero styling. I agree with what I think Boaconda was saying: The GHs are kind of silly, with Cabbage Patch Kids faces and weird, squatty poses. But the Robot Heroes are more representative of the source characters. The style doesn't take away the coolness of the characters by distorting them too much... unlike the GHs.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. The worst offender in this tournament by far being Vader himself. It's like the toy equivalent of character assassination to make all those figures in an identical squatting pose, arms outstretched and pointing any guns to the side, rather than the way Hasbro allows more of the character in their other properties (especially the ones they own - TFs, Joe) to shine through in the other lines.

Grimlock and MAYBE Soundwave are not the best examples of this if you look at every Robot Hero, but they're as good as it could get from the available options.

i think setting these up would have to be a pain in the ass. i think running it is the gravy work, but deciding who to include and exclude is the hard part. taking the known series (e.g. marvel, transformers, star wars, toys story, gi joe, inbanana jones,...was there another?) and trying to pick the best of the best without being too biased. that would be hard. had veers wanted to make this one a lock for star wars, all he would have had to do is include the rancor. hell, i even own the rancor and i hate star wars. some people have pointed out that maybe the strongest characters weren't always picked to be included, but this is still a relative term. the whole point of these tournaments is to vote for the one we like the most. and other than a few rare occasions there's always been votes to the contrary of the majority. i'm not saying anyone is bee-eye-itching or that anyone is complaining. i'm just pointing out the fact that no matter how appropriate you may find the choices for a tournament, there's always going to be people who disagree. let's all remember that these are for fun and that our taxes aren't going to increase/decrease depending on the outcome. <_<

now, if i may bee-eye-itch for a minute, i still would have rather had the time squad included and toy story tossed down the toilet.

LOL, just so everyone's clear, the last thing my post was intended to do is bring up any serious criticism of the choices for this tournament either. It just so happens that there are some Robot Heroes, including a few I own, that might have been even more superior choices than any included. For whatever reason, Veers stuck to the G1 Robot Heroes and that's perfectly fine.

That's what you think! :cheeks:

Look, I think Soundwave is a great figure and Lil' Veers plays with it. And in the tournament Soundwave beat the figures he faced. My only knock was really against all of these GH-type figures. I guess my thinking was that Soundwave wouldn't hold a candle to the Claw or some of the other winners/top finishers.

As for Grimlock, I think he should have lost in rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5. He simply blows as a robot. Every ounce of charisma comes from his T-Rex robot form. If he turned into a blender or a truck, then nobody would have vote for this robot. Of course, that's just my opinion. :D

you're prolly right. a blender would not be cool. just think of the movie big when the horse's ass is pitching the skyscraper robot. "i don't get it."

late in the tournament though, for the majority of us, the stinkers are gone and you have to fall back on what you know and love. the characters. frankly, whether you base your vote on whether or not you'd rather play with a figure over another one, you are going to consider the character. and if you make up your own characters based on appearance that's still going to influence your votes.

I'm gonna have to go with Soundwave. He is overall better, and I even like him more than Grimlock. I think most of the Star Wars figs lacked personality in stance. But the Maul and Yoda/Luke were probably the best in my opinion and should have probably gotten further in the tournament. And I really don't like any of the Joes. Sure some were fun looking, and pretty well done, but in the end I felt all were lame.

However there were MANY great figures that didn't get any representation in this tourny, not complaining, but some of the Beast Wars sculpts are insanely great, and none of the Larger figures got any show play. I honestly don't think their size would have been as big a factor as thought. As some are just stinkers. Like Giant Man. I've seen him in person and held him, and sure his size is awesome, but he wasn't anything special in regards to sculpt or character. Galactus and Sentinel may have taken the tourney though. As they are both pretty rad.

Anywho thanks for sticking with the tourny Veers, I'm sure your burned out on these things by now! :cheeks:

Their riffing on the first movie was pretty awesome.. though it still couldn't save that movie from its excessive length. Seriously, how many half-assed characters needed half-hour subplots anyway?
