The 5th Kinnikuman Summit will take place in Shinjuku, Japan on Friday, October 29th 2010. The main event will feature Shimada Takashi and Nakai Yoshinori of Yudetamago. Other special quests are allegedly set to appear, and the event will feature exclusive Kinnikuman merchandise.

Apparently, Friday the 29th is officially Kinnikuman day. Friday = 金曜日 (kinyoubi), which is commonly abbreviated as 金 or "kin." 2= ni and 9=ku.... so Friday the 29th is kin-ni-ku - oh the cleverness of the Japanese

To make a long story short, I follow Shimada-sensei on Twitter, and responded to one of his Tweets where he was announcing the aforementioned event. Basically, I said something along the lines that the duo should travel to America and put on one of these for all their American fans

To my great surprise he actually responded directly to me! It may seem lame, but this was perhaps one of the greatest moments in my personal Kinnikuman geekdom.

He currently has close to 12,000 people following him so out of the hundreds of messages he gets a day, I was really surprised that he responded to me.

Here is his response...



He pretty much said, "An American expedition version of the event huh? That would be nice! There is a lot of "Kinkeshi mania" in America and Kinnikuman Nisei (Ultimate MUSCLE), aired faster in American than it did in Japan... hmm"

Interesting. I wish I could get to Japan for a ton of reasons...though I doubt Yude would want to meet some loser who essentially finally cracked the original Kinnikuman series after so many years. (especially wish Shueisha on the warpath...not about translations though but still)

Update:

The Kinnikuman Summit will now be broadcast via live stream! (Well, at least portions of the event)

The tickets for the event sold out within a few minutes, so they decided to give a lot more people access to the festivities online. Very excited for this!

The message I sent him said, "With the popularity of Kinnikuman Nisei (Ultimate MUSCLE) in America, is there a possibility of having the original Kinnikuman Anime series released or broadcast in the States? I think it would be popular."

His Response, "Many Americans know about Kinkeshi but they don't really know about the original first series of Kinnikuman. It is something that we have talked about actually, so I cannot say that it will never happen."

I'm really glad to know that Kinnikuman is still insanely popular in Japan. I thought its popularity was wavering over the past few years, but it seems to be reaching a new high point throughout its course. This could pique interest for North American anime/manga markets.

Uoozuman, we really appreciate you communicating with Yudetamago through Twitter. It gives me hope that they haven't forgotten about their foreign fans, and that something may come about for us in the near future.
