I've read Steel Ball Run, or at least as much of it that's available at Onemanga. Gyro actually reminds me more of Hol Horse than anyone else. I blame the hat.

True enough, but with less guns and more possible sexual innuendos. Also, the way Hol Horse was defeated made me lose whatever respect I had for him.

Tenjou Tenge, like any normal popular Jump title, will last forever so long as the fanbase is festering it.

KochiKame is a better example, DBZ actually had just a little more than the average lifespan of most popular manga titles.

Except Araki changes it up every few years by ending the current part and starting another with a fresh cast and a new atmosphere to the story.

True enough. This thing is that I didn't have much respect for him before, and when he shot himself in the face it was gone almost completely. Luckily, for me, respecting a character isn't the same as liking a character.
