Here is what I imagine the actual final dragonfly will be close to:

It looks like shit.
I hope that isn't all, haha, otherwise, I'll have to get a bigger soapbox.

The Zik Minimate was put together for fun -- none of the Series 1 sculpts were gonna be ready in time. It doesn't represent the line, but you'll see Series 1 at SDCC, and you'll want to get the Dragonfly to fight the Scorpion. Pretty sure that reflects the control art I showed at C2E2, though -- those wings were too cool not to re-use.
sadly I am unimpressed and now questioning sticking with the DST line over the saga line :/

over at MM forums Zach posted this.. which leads me to believe what we see is what we get for SDCC.

The dragonfly looks nothing like the ram, it must just be an addition or something unrelated with the two pack.... I cannot see them releasing that dragonfly with the intentions that the rest of the line will look anything like it. There is no consistency, they look nothing alike.
Lets hope Zach can explain this for us.

He'll look slightly different in production -- translucent wings, and I think he's been scaled down too small -- but he's a lot more of a Minimate than the rest of the line, that's for sure.
Obviously, he's not this board's cup of tea, but Series 1 will be on display at the show, and you'll see the designs then.
Sadly I am unimpressed and now questioning sticking with the DST line over the saga line :/
So I shouldn't save you a business card?

Why would you be sticking with DST over Beast Saga ?

I'm supporting Beast Saga, but I really hope that fans of the DST "Battle Beasts" have something better to look forward to than this, which is really just insulting.

Oh, my god! The Battle Beast name is going to go down in effing flames! What the hell are you guys at Diamond doing to this toy line? Oh, well I know for sure I won't be buying any ever. Sorry, Beast Saga is the way to go.

Hold on... Zach will show up any day now, to tell you that when you see these on shelves, you'll change your mind, and that... Well, he "Gets it". Haha
It seems awfully apparent, that this is just another shameless, callow, and lazy cash grab.
Sadly, they fail to realize that the BB name will amount to precisely shit, when they are done with it.

Please stop beating around the bush and tell us how you REALLY feel about BB mimi-mates.
hehe.

i have to agree. the insect sculpt made it clear, this line will probably only be collected by minimate collectors.

But they should have left the Battle Beasts name alone.
It's like having a Spider-man superhero mini-mate line that that is not the Marvel hero we all know but a Six armed Spider Beast.
I would have just sold the Ram if the other sculpts were not ready in time. How long have they had to produce these ?
That dragonfly(?) is just a embarrassment to the brand and to the fans expecting something more.
But to be fair it looks like the standard mini-mate.

That insect has no "sculpt".
It's just a lego block with a half-ass paint job.

I mean really, look at these fan customs...
Yes they are still mini-mates. Yes they still look like lego pieces. And yes i totally like them both and appreciate the art and design and effort put into them by people who did them for themselves and i assume will never actually profit from these creations in any way.
I don't mind that BB are being redone.
I don't even care that the originals will be tarnished by it.
But geez where the hell are the standards? Even if it's just for money and not for love you can still hire an artist who can make something passable. There is no excuse for not trying.

I really hate to do ANYTHING that Ironmask has predicted, but I'll reiterate, Zik looks very little like the rest of Series 1. Series 1 wasn't going to be ready, we wanted a two-pack, and this is what we decided to do. We could have done a single boxed Vorin, but we didn't. We wanted someone for Vorin to fight and swap parts with. It'll be more impressive in final production colors and the correct scale, but still light-years away from the Series 1 figures. I realize this line has been a long time coming, but we're still not quite there yet.
And every company wants to make a profit, but they also want their toy line to engage kids and/or collectors by being fun and cool-looking, and having some sort of a story behind the toys. If we just wanted to make a cash grab, there are faster ways to do it than by taking a relatively obscure '80s brand nobody has touched in 25 years and trying to build it up over three years into something that can support a toy line at a mass market retailer. We back-burnered it for a while and focused on other stuff because we weren't sure we could sell it. Now we've got a great comic, and some great toys coming, and we'll see how well the line does this fall.

I don't understand that at all.
It makes no sense from a business perspective OR the i care about collectors and the history of the line perspective.
You know it sucks so scrap it.

I'm flattered that I hold such an important place in your day, Zach.
It's not just my opinion, that these are "Just more Minimates", as you've read... And passive-aggressively threatening to withhold some collector's business card (WTF?), is a petty move.
For argument's sake, let's say the dragonfly figure was just a place holder, and you have a piece that is closer to your ram stylistically... It's still a minimate, and while you have a niche audience, the built in demographic for a "relatively obscure", 25 year old brand is fiercely loyal, hence the existence of this very board we're posting on.
Which kind of brings me to my next point... YOU came to US. Don't get all pissenfrausen, because your timing wasn't the best, with Japan offering us a reasonable alternative to your product... An alternative that hasn't taken a cold piss all over the toy line that we love dearly. Had Tomy/Takara not shown their hand with the whole Beast Saga line, I am sure you'd get a lot more dollars from hungry BB fans... But, the bottom line remains... Your line isn't strong enough to carry ANY weight without the "Battle Beasts" name, and the quality of your toys and comics has yet to be seen. Tomy/Takara's offerings are going to chew up the market you came on this board to try to take advantage of.
You're a company man, and I appreciate that you are excited about the project, and I am sure that SOMEBODY put in effort and time on these pieces... But they are not good Battle Beasts toys, and no amount of posturing will fix that.
