That's great, but this is a community, and I suspect people would rather deal with members of the community as opposed to outsiders who shun it. I know I certainly would.

I think it's a bit strong to suggest they 'shun' LRG just because they aren't members. Some probably don't even know about it. With IG you can go someway to telling how reputable someone is just by how much they sell and the quality of the work they produce. I can think of two people right off the top of my head who would fit in great here, but aren't members. Instead, they do pretty much everything via FB and/or IG We've had people on here in the past who have scammed others, regardless of how much of a community ethos we have.

I always find it weird when there are artists creating minifigures and they aren't part of one of, if not the biggest grouping of minifigure collectors.

I'd imagine there are a decent number of people who either don't know about the LRG site/community, or just don't care for forums in general and prefer the interface on IG, FB, or whatever social media they use instead.

It's possible that they don't know, but I find it unlikely. When I first got into the community a few years ago, I was passed around pretty easily starting from Toyark, to October Toys, and then here. Anybody making figures should have an idea that this place exists. At the very least, even if you don't like the UI, it's still another place to reach some potential customers. It doesn't make sense to deliberately not sign up.

While this is true, it is also part of the reason why the council exists. We try to repair any damage done by harmful individuals and make up for it to make people want to stay and contribute to this community. I don't know of a single other group of people that looks out for their members the same way and to the same extent.

That's all from me, before I drag this off-topic any further.

I've also had those moments when talking to someone who seems knowledgeable about the properties I collect but knows nothing about this site, but it's probably more common than we think. There are just a lot of people in the world. Think about how many artists there are in countries that are mostly if not entirely unrepresented on LRG?

At one point every member here (except the founders) knew nothing about this site. I know if I hadn't Google-stumbled my way into the Beast Saga thread here I'd likely never have found LRG, or even started toy collecting again for that matter. My meager collection of Battle Beasts had been stashed away and untouched for like 10 years at that point. After being here a few years I consider it the first community for my specific interests, but this isn't the case for people who might share similar interests but haven't followed the same channels of information.

I also think that as 3D printing continues to gain in popularity (and reduce in cost) you're going to see more and more overlap between CG and solid medium, which will lead to more "new" artists finding their way here. In the past year alone we've had a few artists join that fit this description.

And yeah this is way off topic, but I think it's an interesting discussion. I actually have something I got in the mail to share, but I can't take a picture until I'm off work ;)

I got some Great Mystery Museum figures by Medicom/Max Factory, and WOW... they are fragile.  Seriously.  The resin is so cheap it feels like clay, and I have already had to reglue some of them.  I honestly wouldn't recommend these toys because of the fragility.

The Tower of Babel...

4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

TowerOfBabel.png

(note: the clouds on this figure broke TWICE, just from being touched)

And then... ALIENS!

UFO.png

(the aliens are sticky in a weird way, and the ship falls apart easily - no friction to hold it together)

Red Oni and Blue Oni
Oni-Red.png

Oni-Blue.png

Oni-RedAndBlue.png

(they feel fragile, but are solid enough to be somewhat durable)

And from Kaiyodo, a Diabloceratops

Diabloceratops.png

(fragile, but not as bad as the Medicom stuff)

Does anyone have a lid with a good sticker they could possibly scan and share? This one's lid is pretty sun-faded, would be cool if I could replace it.

But I dig these guys.

This stuff I found in the K-Mart cheap toy aisle; really love the packaging on these so I'll likely leave them sealed. There was a third metallic red one as well.

Off topic again but I did want to say thanks to everyone who responded to my post about customs...I have bookmarked the entire page so I can go back to it and research all the various names, links, and locations that were mentioned! I look forward to getting started with it hopefully soon. I ran into some money problems this month so it will be awhile before I can afford to start buying again, but I am going to work on fixing that issue because I love this stuff! Maybe some of the older custom figures will be out of my grasp...but there will always be new stuff and thanks to all your input I will be in a much better position to acquire some of it. So once again, Thank You!

I designed, sculpted and cast him myself in under one month in school.

Beautiful work there. One of a kind or have you cast more?

I could see myself owning one of those if the price was reasonable. Really dig the detail and original style of your sculpt.

You're so kind! Actually I should... It's what I want to do the rest of my life, but I'm really busy in school and am applying for exchange in Germany and stuff.

There's only this one guy. It's a tricky process casting more of him. Toxic plastics and all.

I've been thinking of starting sculpting again, maybe some smaller figures. I'm thinking a spiritual successor to TBB or BEB.. Something like that. That's what my sketch books are filled with.
