Well it's all dependant on the tastes of the translators and the scanslators that probably determine language levels. I try not to drop F-bombs but if they use it more explicitly, then I try to reflect it likewise. Probably just tradition but at least I got someone backing up to prevent it from going out of line.

Chp. 183: Beat 'em up, blow them apart, they still come back for more...unless it's Geronimo: http://mangahelpers..../releases/10693

Well, I have to defend the Tendon choice. There was no other way to make the joke, and what joke it was was hilarious!

If the team decides that PG-13 for a manga featuring HEADS GETTING CUT OFF BY SPINNING PLANETARY RINGS and people's BACKS BROKEN OUT OF duche-y SPITE BY ROBIN MASK is too harsh, can we at LEAST keep it PG with Damn, Hell, and the occasional 'shizznit' and nipple slip (see Back-To-School featuring Rodney Dangerfield for examples of the latter).

Hell, they'll drop the F-bomb on rare occasion in PG movies as well! Look at Truman Show!

I'm just saying that this is not a kid's manga! The violence level is extremely high, and it has occasional nudity as well (though not graphic). Dropping the level of the language to less than PG-13 (which has an 'F' when appropriate) is rediculous.

I mean... This series has a Princess Kunta. That wouldn't even be allowed in a PG-13 movie!

*sigh* Am I out on a limb that I think is a bridge, or do I have a valid concern? I really think 'Darn' goes waaay too far out of its way, and could EASILY turn people off of the series.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Keep the swear words. If you guys decide to tone down the language, some people might take it the wrong way and think you are trying to appeal to a younger audience. Don't try pulling a Viz. Just saying.

Besides, what's wrong with swearing? ;D Between the lines, Matto said the word "f*ck" 286 times.

Actually, it was a manga for children. However, what the Japanese deem appropriate for children and what most westerners would deem appropriate for children are two different things. I've seen far worse manga than Kinnikuman when it comes to violence, nudity, and language and they too were aimed towards the same demographic (Go Nagai's Devilman anyone?)

That being said, there should be no reason to tone down the language in the manga. I admit the first F-Bomb I heard surprised me a little, but it didn't offend me or anything and it doesn't seem that any of the other readers cared. Still, do what you guys must...I'm just glad that the manga is being translated.

Well in my project i'm gonna tone down the f-bomb and just used regular insult. And i think it's just inappropriate to use those kind of words.

Yeah, but her name is pronounced KOO-n-tah. Not Cun-tah.

I do think some of our earlier f-bombing was a bit overboard but eh.. what's done is done. Atleast keep the damns and hells in there though.

Like people are going to care in the long run.

Anyone smart enough to get this deep into ANY manga, and the net itself, is familiar with bad words.

WHAT!

That's EVEN WORSE! It's not a joke about profanity, it's a RACIAL joke! Now I'M a bit offended!

And I belive we had two F-bombs (plus one from Toriama's World, read the F-ing signs). The Tendon chapter really wouldn't have been as hilarious as it was without those two F-bombs. Why? Because THE TENDON DISH WAS F-BOMBING.

So give us our damns, our hells, and our pisses-- please!

TheOrgg: I have to agree with you on this one. Kinnikuman harbors all kinds of potentially offensive jokes, characters, and stereotypes. Kind of reminds me of G Gundam in that aspect.

So yeah, keep the cuss words. They were kind of amusing.

Personally, I always imagine Terryman as a bit foul-mouthed. He is, after all, a cowboy stereotype.

I've known cowboys. They're worse than sailors.

I'm still shocked that it's 'Princess Coon-ta' I thought 'hairy taco-ah' was bad!

About the stereotypes: this was 1979 Japan. A society that still read Little Black Sambo and saw that as the main image of Africans. A society that still joked about characters running around as Nazis. (heck the second UY movie several years later pretty much had the main characters run a "Nazi-themed cafe" in the celebrated second movie...and yet they themselves were trying to distance themselves from their own imperial past which allied themselves with Nazi Germany and Italy) Somehow the Roots Island arc was both paying tribute to the Alex Haley mini-series (which probably did air there considering Yudetamago knew about it) but still was stuck with their own silly stereotypes of the era. (still one of the most fun mini-arcs of the series though)

In regards to the F-bomb, it's just from translator to translator so I won't get into that.

And in regards to more translations:

I'd say something about him going to the Gobi Desert considering that's the closest desert to Japan...but I never got that either. This whole "Western death sentence" attack just seemed more about the Scorching Hell than anything to do with The Ninja.

In regards to the swearing and all, I'd say it shouldn't matter as much, depending on the character. They may casually say stuff like Hell and Damn, but the stronger languages may not be something said by alot of the characters. Then again, from what I know, most of the swearing don't really have any equivilants in Japanese. They just have rude ways of saying things, that translators decide to make colourful to show off that point. But that can sometimes not work right.

All up to you. I myself wouldn't really like to see constant strong swearings, but if it suits a character and not overused, I wouldn't complain.

hey guys this might brighten you day.

I found this on the OneManga forums for Kinnikuman

This is written by a guy who goes by the name "Takashi"

"Well, it is a wrestling manga. Most pro-wrestlers have an entrance theme, so...Yeah.
Anyways, I've kept up with Ultimate Muscle! -whoots- GO KID~!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SCANNING KINNIKUMAN!

....I have the Japanese manga and can only read half of them..."

Uploaded 174-176.

Also finally getting off my butt and working on the layout. I have a rough draft so far. (You can see it here.) If there's anything you want to suggest, let me know. I know the banner's really basic but I was stumped and I didn't want to use an overly busy image.

That looks great, Knux.

One critical observation I would make is that, if you feel up to it, is to change the top image with different Kinnikuman DVD covers. A different image that changes at random.

But otherwise, keeping it simple works best.

What was with The Ninja's Leather Rope technique? Ain't he from Japan, or is he a 'mysterious' character that doesn't have his origins explained?
