Am I right in thinking that #102 Mapman isn't represented amongst Class A's? I've only recently started getting into MUSCLE, but I always presumed that every figure had at least one Class A version.

Not every sculpt has a Class A color. Some sculpts have 1 or 2 class A's while others have zero. Mapman happens to have no class A instances.

Hi,Thanks so much for this, just got a big lot of flesh and colored M.U.S.C.L.E figures and found a class A salmon! One question though, are their no Grape Class A;s? Were they only board game figures? Thanks...

Since completing my MIMP collection goals, I began taking more of an interest in MUSCLE. Seeing as my MUSCLE knowledge is about 1% of others on here, I'm trying to build it up, which at times means I have to ask those basic/probably annoying questions. Anyways, here's another in regards to class A figures:

I came across this paragraph on musclefigures.com which mentions where class A figures were produced. I always presumed (as that's what I'd read) that class A were Canadian releases and the UK only got the more common figures. Did the UK get class A figures? Granted I've only been looking on eBay UK for class A figures over the last month, but the only one I spotted was a 136m that ended for a very low price last week.

Class A figures should not really be considered rare, but rather ‘uncommon’. As they do not show up very often they were most likely manufactured towards the end of M.U.S.C.L.E. production, thus the lower numbers in circulation. It is also safe to assume that they were mainly produced in Canada and the UK, further shrinking their numbers. Some collectors think that Class A figures should be classed as rare and indeed some figures truly are (Purple #153 for example). Even the less popular sculpts can command significantly high prices if it is a Class A colour."

I've only been looking on eBay UK for class A figures over the last month, but the only one I spotted was a 136m that ended for a very low price last week.
 

 

There has been an eBay lot with a 136M that was re-listed several times. The start bid was reasonable enough, which leads me to believe most folks feel that 136 looks better in other colors, or he just isn't that popular a sculpt. I've also proposed that 136M should be downgraded to a Class B...

 

I'll attempt as best I can to answer your question about what Class A figures went where. Some of the easier to find and/or less desirable ones can be found all over the place. However, lots of the really tough ones went to Canada, or at least that's where they seem to crop up most often. We could speculate endlessly about why that is, but that does seem to be where most of them went. Of course, only childhood collections and old store stock would need to be considered if this were to be truly accurate.

 

By the way, considering the asking prices for some of the figures on mucslefigures.com--specifically 77DB and 183P, both of which are extremely common and should sell for no more than 50P--I'd take anything I read on there with a grain of salt.

Also remember that the Class A ranking was created by me. It can be wrong. In fact I was working on something last night that may significantly alter the guide. We'll see. But I think it will become more accurate. Again, we'll see.

 

I seem to remember--though when and where escapes me at the moment--that Veers said that the classes were not set in stone. That means that every figure could, in theory, be downgraded to a Class C eventually. In practice, that probably won't happen...but hell, I can dream, right?

 

I also briefly considered that desirability should be a second factor in determining a figure's class, but dismissed the notion pretty quickly. Desirability is just too subjective, with too much variance between individual collectors. (I've said before that there are no sculpts that I outright dislike, just sculpts that I like better than others. Though it might seem blasphemous to some, there are sculpts that I like better than the Claw.)

 

And Veers is also correct that country of origin doesn't mean as much anymore. Not to say that there are no more Class A figures stored in Canadian closets and basements anymore, but that more than a few of them have left Canada in the past 10-15 years.

Love the accessible guide. Now I can look through my collection and find class A's I have so I can trade and complete a flesh collection.

I do have a question? How common do people think were the board game purple one's?

I know the game wasn't a popular item at all. I even remember getting it at a second hand type store when muscle was around since I never saw them at toysrus or those type of stores.

I since have been able to obtain an unopened game which I know I paid more then I should have but it was a big part of my childhood do it was worth it.

Board game purple are common enough. I wouldn't pay more than $1 each for them.

In case anyone cares- the answer turned out to be 4. So if you wanted, you could make a set out of the darker colors (lb, b, r, p) and a set out of the neon colors (s, m, o, g) without needing to use any class As.

I was thinking it would be cool to do this and then you could dump three sets (flesh too) into a pile and then easily separate them back out.
