And to think people in the U.S. are the only nutty ones.

Amen to that.
The major difference is that in Japan, the SR's are actually all Super Rare.
No Blue Zord type B.S.
Rare figures are well documented with books, online publications, major collector stores etc. Hype, frenzy, lies and general scumbaggery do not drive or fuel the market.

What is the story behind their SRs in comparison to Veers' interview with Mr. Morrison?

What is the story behind their SRs in comparison to Veers' interview with Mr. Morrison?
A brief summary of what is covered in コンプREX #1.

1. Fan Submitted Choujin Kinkeshi
These suckers were the result of the first "Choujin Recruitment" contest that Yudetamago and Jump Comics conducted back in 1984. The idea was that fans would submit characters ideas with the hopes that they may actually appear in a future chapter of Kinnikuman. A poster with the 20 winning designs appeared in Jump #35, and was an epic event for hardcore Kinniku fans.
The contest was so popular, that they decided to make Kinkeshi versions of the designs. The problem was however, that your average fan had no idea who these new guys were, as they had actually never appeared in the comics. By the time the figures were sculpted and cast, much of the momentum behind the contest was gone. Since there was not a lot of demand for these characters, they were released completely off the radar and in super limited quantities. Not a lot is known about how they were released other than they were capsule toys, and probably dropped in a very limited area. They are slightly larger and fatter than the standard Bandai Kinkeshi. Most people seem to think they were made by Amada.
Of the 20 fan creations, only 16 are known to have been made into Kinkeshi. Characters like Mammothman and Super Phoenix became super popular when they finally appeared in the comics, hence the price of these dudes skyrocketing.

2. "Amada Kinkeshi"
These designs were also based on the "Choujin Recruitment" contest, however their release is well documented in official Popy figure check lists and other advertising. These Kinkeshi were the last 10 figures from the Amada line (100 in all), and are smaller than standard Bandai Kinkeshi. They are super rare because the line got cancelled just as the final series was coming out. Only a very limited quantity was ever produced.
Interesting thread on the whole Amada toy with a "Popy" stamp debate. With all Amada toys, the "P" only shows up as Popy did the stickers, or inserts included with the figures.

3. Bandai Super Rare Kinkeshi
The hardest to find Bandai Kinkeshi are know as "the Phantom Four." Grader, Silver Riki, Redmask and Hellblock. These guys are super unusual as they all appeared in some form of Bandai advertising/promos, but were never officially released (as far as Mandarake knows). You can see Grader and Redmask for example in the KInkeshi Part 19 Daishi (Capsule Machine Art Insert).
Figures like the Black Meato-kun and Mixter Taitei on the other hand are just plain mysteries as to where they came from. They all appear to be official Bandai releases though.

4. Bandai Hard to Find Kinkeshi
Part 29 and Part 30 figures may be expensive and pretty uncommon, but they are not in the same class as Japanese SR's. Once Bandai pulled the plug on the line, only limited shipments made their way out of the Bandai factory. Not a lot of mystery here.
