The situation in general, though, does suck royally. I know I've seen people here that were remorseless about using techniques that some might find questionable or don't do themselves, but this is a new low. However, the seller in this case is truly the worst if he seeded an auction with what he knew or later found out was a rare non-MIMP figure and didn't actually include it with the rest when Soupie won. I hope this can be resolved in a satisfactory manner for all.
If it helps to ease the burden even a tiny bit, there's a couple Series 1 guys in the lot I could take off your hands, but that'd hardly put a dent in that $47 cost...

I'm going to go waaaaay out on a limb and assume someone here at LRG is either the collector who made the deal or knows something about it
So I mean, there is no real proof (yet) that it was someone here on the boards, there is only speculation. My money is on the idea that, yeah, it was probably someone here. But I'm not going to act shizznitty to new members, or any members here for that matter, simply because they could be the one who fncked over Soups. I get beat out on MIMP lots all the time, but I dont go assuming that the new people here are the ones who beat me out. There are other collectors out there who dont come to these boards. I dont know why they wouldnt because this place rules, but thats another topic in itself.
I myself am a newer member, and I'll be damned if I let someone try to say that I dont care about the friends I've met here or the bonds that I've made. Anyone who's delt with me knows that I care VERY deeply about my fellow members. I think it's unfair to assume that newer people care nothing about the bonds that are made here and in the end, this ideology will just push those people further away from our community. And really, what good is a tiny community that doesnt attract new blood?

Not saying I dont enjoy some of the newer members, but as this board grew so did the shadiness of collecting habits.
Asator, please dont take what I said too far out of context. I like you, I think you are a good guy. As well as 90% of the people on this forum. All I am getting at is once the members grew, to some people it became more about thier collection than friendships. Say for example an auction came out that half the board wanted. It was understandable that someone was not going to get it, but we'd usually come to some sort of conclusion as to who would get it. That kept the whole board from bidding letting that person have it for a decent price. If it was something really special, everybody was kind of ok with getting outbid. But early buyouts and stuff was never once a problem. Now if something half way cool gets posted. The first thing I have to do if I am interested is email the seller begging him not to end it early because he has a piece I want, but by that time someone has already emailed him, offered him a low buy out and I miss my chance at even trying to get a new piece to my collection. Does that make any sense? I'd rather have a chance to win, then no chance at all, and in Soupies case, he actually won then got screwed over, thats even worse.

It's funny that when I first stumbled upon this board I had already been using eBay for about 7 years and I had never even thought to ask sellers for early buyouts until I learned that trick from some of the more notable and long time members on this board so I don't think the people that have joined in the last few years can take credit for that one

Well the way eBay has things fixed now you can't even email a seller unless you are currently bidding on their item or are already in the middle of another transaction, so that practically killed the early buy out thing. Unless there is a way around that too that I missed.
wink wink.
Actually, the same "ask the seller a question" link is still there in every auction I've seen. And I get questions all the time from non-bidders asking about international shipping.

Then I don't know what I'm talking about. I think I hit a duh spot in my brain. Cause I know that I have asked questions lately, but I remember one time it wouldn't let me email somebody.....now I can't remember why.
I've tried to email someone before who wasnt a seller and it wouldnt let me do it. This was back when you could see what the names were. I tried to contact the winner of an auction to see if he would be willing to part with one figure from a huge lot he had. It wouldnt let me do it.
Doc, I'm sorry. I shouldnt have been so defensive. I understand what you are saying, I just dont want any of the new members getting the wrong idea and feeling like they arent welcome here. No hard feelings dawg.

Then that must have been what it was about. But I specifically remember it telling me that I couldn't email them because I currently wasn't involved in a transaction with them. I think it was a guy I had bought something off of before, and wanted to see if they had more of the same, and it wouldn't let me.
As for what Doc said, I totally understood where he came from. He wasn't referring 100% to newer collectors so much as the relationships on the board becoming watered down due to surges in the number of members. Some older members started doing some shady things to newer members that they weren't buddy buddy with, and some newer members were coming around just to be shady and scam people. It happens on all collector boards at some time. I recall not being well received by some veteran members when I first showed up, and in fact had some rather awkward transactions with a few. But at the same time I know of some members who joined at the same time I did who were complete jerk holes who only wanted to flame war, and they didn't hang around long at all. I mean I'm member 570, That's alot of folks who have come and gone, many not saying much of anything and a few causing trouble, and then the vets that got tired of hanging around.
I guess the easiest way to explain it would be this.
A group of people get together for a nice little party and there are like 20 or so people who initially show up. Everyone is having a good time getting along and stuff, but then a couple new guys here about the party and show up. They invite their friends and their friends invite friends and eventually it's just a room full of people who don't know each other, and tension and trouble can spark between particular individuals. One guy decides to get a new guy he doesn't like hammered and then rapes him in the closet, and then a group of new guys decide they don't like one of the early guys, and then they try beating his A$$, until the guy who is throwing the party shows up and shoots one of them and those guys decide they will back off, some feelings get hurt when somebody decides to diss the other guys mommy and gay slurs are exchanged for a while, until they decide to get together and go hang out with some old chicks at bowling alley. Things start to simmer back down as the losers and and creeps are plucked from the party or leave, and some of the guys who started the party get fed up with the newer guys and decide to scram. Two butt plugs and a dirty spoon later everyone seems to have found their niche and any new guys who show up are highly scrutinized until they can show that they are going to be welcome members on the soccer team! Then everyone plays pin the tail on the donkey and have Fan Art Contests. It's really simple really.

Seriously Soupie, what happened? did you get him? did you get your money back? inquiring minds want to know

the slime of all my yesterdays
rots in the hollow of my skull
they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them

No....no I'm not, but you know that sounds like a plan.

1. Doc is probably right. The person that did this to you has probably posted that it sucks and how you should handle it. It has happened before.

2. I’m a little disappointed that no one thinks I did it. I guess malicious activities don’t get attributed to me – only a-hole activities.
He-he, Doc and a-hole activities in the same post - what are the chances?
But keep us updated Soups, I hope it works out in the end for you.

Don't worry, it's probably just because you're selling so many toys right now rather than buying. Although that would make the perfect cover....

Late afternoon, UK-time, of the following day, the seller returned my email saying there had been a mix up, that he'd thought he'd included the yellow figure in my package and that he had managed to find it mixed in with some other lots. He said he would mail it out free of charge asap. To my utter astonishment, I received the figure in the mail today.

Needless to say, I am very happy at this turn of events. As to what really happened, I don't know, but here are some guesses:
(1) The seller really did mix the BEB up with some other toy lots he was selling.
(2) The seller received many private offers for the BEB and thought it worth a shot at not sending it to me with the other figures, perhaps hoping that I wouldn't notice/care, with the intent of selling it privately. (Which also might explain why he asked my to send a personal check, instead of using Paypal. Moral: Always use Paypal, which I did, thank Jebus.)
(3) Someone had a deal with the seller for the BEB, saw that I won the auction/read this thread, and decided to back out of the deal with the seller. If that's the case, thank you whomever, and may many karma vibes float your way.

And thanks for all the kind words of support and whatnot throughout. I know it gets super competitive for htf toys, but I think we all agree that having figgies cherry-picked after an auction is over is rough for anyone. Still, I fully expected Veers to post a picture of a violin and a box of tissues at some point. I tried very hard to keep my posts from sounding whiny.

It's very likely this was either an honest mistake on the seller's part or some dirty scheming on the seller's part alone. If someone here was somehow involved and decided to back out of a deal or something, again, cheers to you.
