Received my shipment of Beast Saga stuff from Japan yesterday including issues 1 & 2 of the manga. Since I hadn't seen any images posted yet I wanted to share some images of the "new" beasts that I noticed in the issues along with some others. These are only snaps from my phone so please forgive the quality (scanning would have required that I crease the spine ;) ) The first issue appeared to be mostly exposition and introduced a number of beasts:

Attached File  bs-01_12.jpg   238.96K   56 downloads
Tiger

Attached File  bs-01_08.jpg   291.78K   69 downloads
Boar & The God Lot(?)

Attached File  bs-01_04.jpg   231.55K   66 downloads
Buffalo

Attached File  bs-01_07.jpg   248.92K   62 downloads
Bill Fish & Manta Ray

Attached File  bs-01_13.jpg   201.44K   63 downloads
Shark Rage!

Attached File  bs-01_01.jpg   262.75K   69 downloads
This explains why the Panther looks so ridiculous...

Attached File  bs-01_06.jpg   281.43K   96 downloads
Jaguar

Attached File  bs-01_02.jpg   195.86K   74 downloads
Armadillo

Attached File  bs-01_03.jpg   193.33K   72 downloads
Panda is apparently a fatty... (he's eating pretty much throughout the issue)

Attached File  bs-01_05.jpg   213.24K   71 downloads
Koala

Attached File  bs-01_09.jpg   364.82K   69 downloads
Crab & New Fish (?)

Attached File  bs-01_10.jpg   195.76K   78 downloads
Red Panda (?)

Attached File  bs-01_11.jpg   157.41K   62 downloads
Pig, Cat, Iguana, Raccoon, Dog, Fox (?), Unidentified (foreground)

I know some (most) of these already have figures sculpted, but not all of them. The Crab is my new favorite! He's portrayed as the big, dopey muscle-man manga cliche. : D

Looks like amazon.jp has the painted Sofubi fig pics up.

Still can't figure out what size they are.

Size is now listed in the product descriptions for each of the three sofibu figures: (rough translation)
"110mm Vinyl is a killer shark that appeared in Beast saga. (From Amazon.co.jp)"

So, they'll be about 4.3" tall.

A boar would be awesome if it were a warthog. Also a jaguar with armor like a Mayan warlord would be epic. The Sofubis being larger than the average figure is really cool news.

December wave figures are up as well.

I can't read japanese but it seems that the vehicles (B-27 and BS-28) have a Starcom (power deploy) like feature.

I noticed that too, and I think they look pretty neat but I'm honestly on the fence about them since they aren't to scale of the other figures. I assume I'm not the only one who feels that way, but is anyone 100% sure they'll be ordering these? Or do you think they suck? I'm just interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.

I'm also rooting for warthog style boar. Honestly the beast in the pic next to the God Lot looks nothing like a boar or any other specific animal to me, but the chest symbol seems unmistakable.

Also a jaguar with armor like a Mayan warlord would be epic.

Love the idea of a Mayan themed jaguar; and we're in need of a decent predatory cat sculpt after the panther debacle. Black Panther was one of my favorite sculpts of the originals so I was pretty crushed by this ;)

Who knows, maybe they'll even bother painting the spots onto the Jag this time?

Going to wait and see how they turn out. Might get one or two if it made sense for the figure to be larger (like if they did a version of the Whale or some other large animal).

Oh man, ditto. I love the original Battle Beasts Panther, and this pretty-in-pink version for Beast Saga was a real disappointment.

^^Yeah, the original Black Panther fig was awesome. I really don't like the look of these vehicles. But I'm not in this series for the vehicles, so I don't care what they look like. I do however, feel like it's a shame that they are not sized properly for BS figures.

Heh, my girlfriend loves the Panther. She loves cats, and has been using the Lion and Panther on her team, with the Elephant as her third when we play, and I've already come to the conclusion that when I get the december figures, the Cat from that team will be her third. I've already called dibs on the Tiger though.

It's weird, since she likes the game I've been playing it more often than not. Because of that I've been spending time trying to figure out the rules, and come up with some strategies and different ways of playing. I think I've got most of the magic die figured out. Mirror reflects (personally I like this as just block rather than reflect, because then you can't be reflected back, but can still block opponents magic die), Break cancels other magic die, Doping adds your Magic Lot to your attack number (good for low die Battle Lot but high Magic Lot characters like Bundotto), Reverse and Inverse rotate the opponents die to the left/right (good against water, bad against air tribe), Change swaps your number with my number, and Join adds the bottom number to the top number of your attack die (very powerful for Water Tribe, still good for other tribes).

These are mostly personal interpritations of the rules that I've been able to figure out, with some house rules, like since everything is mine, to decide magic dice we put all the ones I have in the table and we alternate choosing them, and if there is a tie both opponents can choose to withdraw or use magic dice until the tie is broken (which is good for teams of high Magic Lot characters). And not allowing Mixed Tribe teams or special abilities (because I don't understand what they do, or how to use them or what a good translation of the abilities are, and not all characters have them yet)

Playing the game has been a lot more fun then I expected. We also made a drinking game out of it and have played with friends. I had to setup a round robin tournament last weekend, heh.

Jaguar

Pretty sure that's supposed to be a cheetah, not a jaguar. It's easier to tell looking at the face of the die rather than the character design, with the characteristic black tear marks.

EDIT: And I think he's wearing sneakers, hahaha.

Actually I think they lost...... at least that's how I feel about them now.
They didn't realy fulfill my expectations from the beginning and with their designs going the wrong way I'm out of the game when it comes to these fellows.

Turns out its impossible to succesfully release a line which is connected/related to so much nostalgia, at least that's my honest opinion.
And eventhough I completely have my hands and funds free for them now as I've completed my vintage BB/LB set they bring not enough for me to go for it.

But I hope for all of you guys who are planning to go all in on them they come up with cool stuff.
I will keep an eye out on here to see and check how the future releases will go so hopefully they'll get me back on board.

GJNL I was sure you would be the first to reply. Of course the Beast Saga will never won in our nostalgia heart. I will always like my good old BB more that the new BS. But to be honnest I think that the BS will be a bigger hit in Japan that Beastformers was back in the 80's.

Think there's any likelihood of there being repaints of these figures down the line, or is it too early to tell? They could probably get some mileage out of doing some repaints based off the original Battle Beasts.

I completely agree with that looking at the campain around them of manga and even their own television serie comming up, that's great and I'm sure we'll see much more of them in the future, maybe even outside Japan. But I think there's just a lack of design quality when it comes to the figures within this line. The simplicity of the original BB line makes them of a really high design standard IMHO. Just dissapointed to see all the extra attempts and efforts making more detailled and flexible figures that don't work out for me.
But even without me they'll still become a hit for sure ;)

Funny enough, the original figure itself is a rhino too, just of a different variety! That's the Spider-Man villain Rhino, and the figure is from the comic-based 3.75" line.

The gachapon booster apparently has General Hawk, the White Eagle with blue armor. These gachapon guys are tinier than normal figures right? I forget what their deal is.
