Recent stuff I got this week. First one is a "Monster po oper". Its basically a wind-up toy, while he walks he pops out candy lol There is another zombie design and a mummy, I'll probably buy them soon haha The second one is a GPK funko mystery mini, first one I bought and got Adam Bomb! I would like to get Dead Ted next.

Went to the local LEGO guy and dug through his pick-a-brick station. I'm going to build an old space set from the ground up via this method. It's a little more fun that just ordering the set online.

Got some of this sweet goodness as well. Most of these figures will be up for trades soon. Beastman and Merman are spoken for though!

My sidekick and I went on a short 3 day vacation over the weekend and found a few good spots, one of which was a devoted toy store. Have very few in my area so that was a pleasant surprise. Was so thrilled about it we went back on our way home. Dropped $70 amongst the 4 or 5 locations and got a variety of things we collect as well as some odd ball sort of stuff we couldn't pass up (creepy heads was all her lol).
Ghostbusters and most of the Beetlejuice is up for trades in my trade thread

Creepy heads we got for a combined $5. They came with equally creepy hands and feet. The three women running the small thrift shop they came from had to have been a combined 230 years old. They were going on about how expensive they use to be and were quite curious as to what we were doing with them. My girlfriend has a few art projects planned for these.

Rounding out the current wave of MiniMate Aliens:  You know, these are better quality than the MiniMates I encountered previously.  Well-done.

Gorman-AttackingAlien.png

Lt. Gorman is extraordinarily generic, which makes him a target for violence.

Gorman-Gun.png

In a nice bonus, this 2-pack comes with eggs, too!

Gorman-Attack.png

There are also MiniMate Predators.  Berserker came with some paint flaws of his own, as well as amazing fragility on his blade and shoulder cannon.

Predator-Berserker.png

And Royce is also generic.

Predator-Royce.png

All right, so... leather jacket, baseball bat with barbed wire... this is Negan from The Walking Dead, right?  He sure looks different in the comic.

Im pretty sure I still have some of the cooler pieces (like those trans green and parts, computer board printed parts, magnets, etc) from the 80's MTRON space series if that interests you at all.

Absolutely it does. I need some of the magnets and trans green pieces! (This set taught me that LEGO even had magnets!)

Then I got a cool bootleg Keshi claw from trudatman and some other cool figures I horde from Plasticfiend.

Going with Rocksteady, we've finally got Bebop.

I finally tried a single Imaginext blind bag. This... is more than adequate.

Decided to stop by Uwajimaya for a quick Japan pop culture fix; was not disappointed:

This blind box series features "Gudetama", an egg yolk with a face, being murdered using various culinary techniques. I'd never heard of this character before but he's apparently quite popular in Japan. I managed to pull the only one that doesn't look like an egg anymore; was hoping for the tamago roll. Can't win 'em all.

I picked up all of the new Plants vs. Zombies K-Nex figures, except for the fire pea shooter.

The Snapdragon looks awesome, is surprisingly hefty, and can shoot pellets as an action feature (you flick them from behind the head).PvZ-SnapDragon.png

The Laserbean is a hilarious pun, and you can shoot his eyes as projectiles, too!

PvZ-LaserBean.png

The Sunflower is actually pretty cheap.

PvZ-Sunflower.png

The Beach Zombie is a good simulation of me at a party.

PvZ-Party.png

That cone came with the Medieval Peasant Zombie - note the brick pattern.

PvZ-PeasantZombie.png

The Adventurer Zombie has a nifty mustache!

PvZ-AdventurerZombie.png

And the Cave Zombie... well... let me tell you a story.

One of the biggest subway stations in San Francisco is the one at Powell St.  It connects to the mArket St. square, which includes the Flood Building, the cable car turnaround, and a five-storey mall.  It's also a hub for street performers, Jehovah's Witnesses, and homeless people.  For about half of the year, I worked in the Flood Building, and thus went through that station every day.  One of the homeless regulars there is an older Asian man, possibly Tibetan (people who recognize him tend to say Tibetan - it may be the facial features, who knows) with shaggy hair, a wispy beard, and really obvious mental problems.  He may or may not understand English, or any real language, but he constantly says, "Ai!"  It's not a chant, more like a tic, or perhaps he's trying to communicate but has severe aphasia.  But whe he's around, you can hear, "Ai!  Ai!  Ai!  Ai!"  He begs for food, wandering around with his slow, unsteady shuffle, his hands half-reaching out for a tiny morsel from the nearby Starbucks, or whatever else is there.  He keeps a reasonable distance, but you can see it in his face - he may not be entirely there, but he is aware eough to know that he's suffering.  It breaks my heart every time I see him, because what can I do?  I couldn't offer him work even if I owned a business.  I couldn't call the police, who would never help him.  I could try to contact a charity, but could they find him?  I've gotten him food a few times, and he smiled as he said, "Ai! Ai! Ai!"  But it's small comfort, and small relief.  Sometimes life is heartbreaking because of your helplessness.

And the thing is, this figure looks exactly like a cartoon version of him.  Same shaggy hair, same little beard, same not-really mustache, same look in is eyes, even the same missing teeth.  The similarity is so spot-on that it's uncanny, and thus this figure is a reminder of the inherent unfairness of life.
