Personal thoughts on the cast at this point:

-Kinnikuman/Suguru: He's a really heroic and imaginative character figuring out new and interesting moves on the fly...but sometimes he does fight a bit too much even though he is the lead character. Plus some of his "imaginitive" abilities are a bit "thrown out there". (see the Planetman fight)
-Terryman: A bit too smart, a bit too bland, and I never really liked his fight in this arc. (Ashuraman rocked but he was way too overmelodramatic)
-Robin Mask: Not really a fan of his but I did like his fight with Junkman...really good at strategy on the fly.
-Ramenman: I rather prefer him in earlier arcs when he better portrays the "noble brutal" (see when he refs the Skull Bozu/Devil Magician fight at the end of the America arc or the earlier Choujin Olympics), here he tries something similar but just stands there for plot convenience.
-Brocken Jr.: Too cowardly this time around aside from the end of his fight with The Ninja...again, a great Devil Knight and nice strategy makes up for an inefficiency of the character itself.
-Geronimo: This was pretty much his arc to shine...and he didn't do bad. The whole "Choujin Heart but not a Choujin" bit did wear on my nerves a ton (mostly cause it was repeated over and over during the Sunshine fight and Akuma Shogun's escape) but the kid's got guts...too bad he seems to lose a lot after...well, the beginning of the next arc.
-Buffaloman: Strangely I liked him more when he finally betrayed Akuma Shogun than when he suddenly reappeared, took his side and just "gave advice" through the Suguru/Ashuraman fight. His story was pretty much completed in the Seven Devil Choujin arc and it really didn't show his true "noble brutality" until the moment he finally betrayed Shogun.
-Warsman: Did too little, only seemed to matter with the Planetman fight in an over-melodramatic bit. Rather have him in earlier arcs.
-Wolfman:...never a fan, won't say anything.
-Meat: I did like the usage of Meat in the Sneagator fight but that's about it. Meat and Suguru are a great team and I sort of wished we could have had more situations with the two together...but at this point, it's all essentially "in the ring or nothing".

Well, there are three possible answers, coming from the sensible, silly and slightly silly (Monty Python reference No. 1).

Answer One (Sensible): If anything, it's probably just a gimmick, like the lucha libre culture of masked wrestlers. Or it might just be due to the whim of whoever drew his design (I can't remember, was Robin a fan submission, like many of the others?)

Answer Two (Slightly Silly): His name's Robin Mask. The Robin family parents were obviously wanting him to grow up to be a luche librador, hence they named him "Mask". That or they had had a wee too much scotch. That would also explain Robin's Scottish-esque Sean Connery accent in Ultimate Muscle.

Answer Three (Silly): [insert Goon Show style raspberry here]

Former resident song translator, and as a result, probably the distant, insignificant relative of the translation family on this board.

Update (7/1/2012 [7th Jan]) - Years away can calm a mind down quite well. I don't think of myself as some maligned martyr of the site. Rather it's just that I was unfortunately caught by the mudslinging of a rather unpleasant (and unprofessional) translator, who didn't like people taking the spotlight away from him, particularly if they happened to actually be able to properly translate work, as opposed to him. Nevertheless, despite the fact that all my work was my own, I got constantly accused of plagiarism, thanks to this unpleasant individual constantly saying how I stole his work. (When rather, it was going to end up being the other way round.)

I'm a lot more forgiving about the whole ideal, with how I ended up getting treated on this forum, as a result of this incident, but at the same time, I am still not in any mind to come back and join in again, nor will I uplaod any more of my translation work on here. This includes any of my old work, or my newer and much more accurate work. Some may see this as being petty, spiteful or based off an old grudge, and you may be right. However, I thought I'd explain things a little.

Do you mean more about the fact of a certain duo, being interested in Robin Mask, or more the actual reason why he wears the mask?

So... When's the next chapters we're all discussing here going onto the website?

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

There was a single complaint about the font at some point during the last arc. I didn't want to suddenly change the font mid-arc, so I've waited until now to address it. Here's what the series looks like with more "standard" manga fonts. I personally think they're a bit too "clean" looking, but if anyone wants me to switch to one of them, say something now. If not, I'll continue using Cooper STD.

My opinion doesn't count that much, because i didn't help on the manga , but I preferer the last one. I think they're a bit "clean" looking too

The third one is, arguebly, what most manga publishers use in their manga. I personally like that one.

I prefer the last one, Wild Words. But if you're gonna change the font,
just do it after the Gold Mask Arc. And just don't use the second one, Comic Sans.

I still don't get what people see in Wildwords. It's the ugliest font since Comic Sans.

I won't be able to get through all these pages for a while, so I'll just say my piece here.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! I was upset that I'd be stuck with TW's gaps between volumes and I'd never get to read the complete story. Now I know I will (eventually).

I currently have one complaint: while I know you've explained why, I didn't like that you used Skullduggery instead of Kinkotsuman. I am a bit of a psycho on using original names so I won't hold it against you or anything. ;)

We discussed it when we did the chapters: at the time the person doing it thought "Skullduggery" and "Rocky Cragg" were better names than "Kinkotsuman" and "Iwao", so we ended up with that. They have changed back since then.

While I'm posting, though, a silly comment: is it just me or was Ashuraman and Sunshine "stealing the friendship" from Kinnikuman's team just a ploy to create antagonism in this arc? I mean, Suguru doesn't even face any of his "friends" during any part of the tag tournament: He faces Pentagon/Black Hole first (which was more a set-up to show his and Kamehame's teamwork), then faced Ashuraman/Sunshine, and finally took on the Hell Missionaries! What's the point of "stealing friendship" if he doesn't even face his "friends"? (let alone they probably could have wanted to hone their skills again anyway in this sort of landscape without Devil Choujin pulling this stunt)

I suppose the purpose was to make it difficult for Suguru to find a tag partner, hence why he had to team up with Kamehame since he was the only person left who would team up with him. Also, it probably did affect his morale a little bit. I'd be pretty bummed if all of my friends suddenly hated me for no good reason.

Never tought of that, but i think is true. He only discuss a little with Terryman at the begining of the arc, and ends this way.Another possibility was, like Aelia said, for Suguru to have a hard time finding a partner for the tournament

I sort of understand it from the perspective of not finding a partner, but after that the whole matter just seems like it really isn't that important anymore. The Idol Choujin don't even face one another...and the closest that some do (Wolfman/Brocken vs. Buffalo/Mongol) is interrupted by the first Perfect Choujin. The whole "stealing friendship" bit was just a plot device and it probably could have worked better if they just decided that they wanted to face Suguru in battle once again using this advantage of the tag tourney.

Another factor is to nerf Kinnikuman. Last arc we saw that he has a lot of friendship power, so they had to take that away from him. It's the same reason they took away his Kinniku Buster last arc and take away his *spoiler* in the next one. Instead of making each bad guy stronger than the last, they just weaken the hero.

I think that it also affected their ability to work together, whether they wanted to or not. Which kind of explains why Terry was having such a hard time working with Suguru, even after Kamehame's spirit trained him. But yeah, even then it's a pretty stupid plot device, especially when considering that Sunshine and Ashuraman are ultimately dethroned by Neptuneman and Big the Budo as this arc's villains.

Nice to meet you in this agenda.

I suppose that the purpose is to strengthen their friendships by once losing them and then restructing.
All the fellow Seigi-choujins once got hostile to Suguru.
However, they eventually recognized the worth of friendship.

Though they did not actually fight with Suguru,
they came to realize again that bonding among Seigi-choujins is important,
through defeated by cruel new antagonists.

I think our Cooper STD looks fine. Like you said before, the arc is really thick and dark and I think it matches the style better.
