After this Terryman Kinnikuman one-shot (which will finish after Yude's break sometime in December), they are going to do a new Nisei arc. They are also considering other Kinnikuman related arcs/stories but nothing has been made official yet.

Nisei is FAR from dead. The overall Kinnikuman franchise is still incredibly popular in Japan, even if Nisei has never quite reached the popularity of the original series. Think of the original Star Wars trilogy compared to the prequels... Lucas can do whatever he wants because of the success of the original three films. Same with Yudetamago.

The original Kinnikuman series merchandising and brand is still "A List" in Japan when it comes to collaborations and co-branding. That kind of nostalgia and popularity allows Nisei to continue on (despite comic sales) because it is all about merchandising and advertising revenue now.

Nisei sells online Weekly Playboy Japan mobile subscriptions, gravure movies and pic downloads from Shueisha's website and mobile apps. Gravure sells, and Nisei helps to sell a lot of it... seriously

Thank god for that. I was getting worried that this would be the end of Nisei.

A Terryman Kinnikuman one-shot? sounds interesting.

I am glad Nisei isn't dead, there might be stuff that will get resolved, ^_^, If Kinnikuman is still very popular in Japan, then Yudetamago should use the opportunity to make some OVAs or movies, even a remake anime if possible. I would do that IF I were in their place, but maybe their minds are on something else.

Thanks for the info.

They are going to be doing something special for the 29th anniversary of the Anime. English Subs? Not out of the question, but unlikely.

Found out they have six full time apprentices who do background art etc. Saw all their work stations. They said they will only hire and do business with real Kinnikuman fans.

They also turn down collaborations with big companies that they feel are not passionate about the Kinniku universe. Here is a pic (taken with permission) of what Nakai-sensei's rough story boards and personal work station look like:

Yes, they do everything by hand still. I only saw one computer in the entire studio and it was used for research purposes. They also had a small area with multiple gaming systems to let of steam and study fighting moves.

They said they have turned down some pretty big collaboration opportunities as they felt like the companies were only in it for the money. Even if they do something with a big company it is important to them that the representatives care about the integrity of their band.

All six of their assistants are huge Kinnikuman fans. Nakai even rides his bike to work every day. Very down to earth people.

Even by hand, their art looks very clean and the lines are very straight and not wobbly like some other manga's inking.
They own a Wii? just asking, XD.

I can understand why the would turn down some collaborations.

Another question, did you ask them about any mysteries of the series? one thing I always wanted to know was if the people of Kinniku planet are a separate species from humans or not, also why does the Kinniku clan wear masks but the Horuman clan doesn't? these are just a few of the questions I have.

i think the Terryman/Kinnikuman one shot may take place just before either the American Tour Arc or the original Tag Arc certainly explains that Terry still has a fake leg XD

I asked them two questions (one about the mask the material is made out of, and two about Terryman's leg. I got the strong impression that they have an official policy not to comment on mysteries in the series or unexplained story points. They thought the mask question however was funny and Shimada-sensei said "maybe latex," but that there was no official answer. They had never even thought of it before

Really what they like to talk about is what fans think, what characters are popular, things that inspire them, things that inspire the fans etc. I was more interested in asking about the creative process etc. Shimada-sensei said that while he is writing a chapter, that he does not take a bath or shower because he does not want such actions to wash away his creativity and ideas.

Looks like the second part of the one shot was released earlier than previously planned, and that the new series was announced to start on 11/28!

Very cool.

I always thought they had just forgotten about the fake leg.

You know, like asking about what Warsman was shaving, or Buffaloman's beard, or Neptune King's mask changing, or Manriki's mask changing.

I think you are right.

I don't know that they analyze or remember things quite like the fans do.

We were talking about the changes to the names from Nisei to Ultimate Muscle. They asked for some examples because outside of the main characters, the US publishers/Studio just picked them for them. They were not involved at all.

They said for Jacqueline for example they were told it was too closely associated with Jacqueline Kennedy's legacy and was now considered a dated name outside of the Kennedy clan.

They had no idea about Ninja Ned and were surprised by names likes Hollywood Bowl and Monsieur Cheeks.

They did laugh at Vince McMadd though. They also said they were told that Meat's voice in the cartoon was meant to sound like Yoda and that fans would get the joke and reference... small wise dude that trains and talks funny...

I mentioned a few of the other small characters with name changes and they laughed and look at each other and said uhhh who was that.... they went back and forward and were like yea yea that guy...

They don't remember everything for sure.

It's Ataru. Same kind of eye, and when he appeared in a full-body drawing, he had the same clothes as one of the volume's covers (IIRC).

They're doing a new Nisei storyline starting on the 28th of this month. The Kinnikuman franchise is still doing very well in Japan, so rest assured the series is far from over. Expect big things to come soon enough.

Pardon the double post, but was there ever a databook released for Nisei like there was for the original series? Just wondering if Yudetamago ever ranked the Nisei cast in terms of: power, speed, technique, intelligence, stamina, etc.?
