What were the two solutions BTW?

Well, initially I just had him say the whole name everytime he was talking to Kinnikuman Great, but it was extremely awkward sounding. Then I decided to shorten it to "Niku Great", but that sounded even worse. Finally, I just settled on "Niku".

I wish they had been more careful about their random English...

Mace? Kendaman was Mace? Suddenly I just imagine him looking like Raymond Burr.

I'll admit that I had no friggin clue what a Kenda was until I looked it up. So I can understand the name change..

Kekekekekeke.

God, I love the pinheaded laughs in this series.

And about Kin. Great's name shortage.. XD Niku sounds kinda silly to me. But eh, no biggie.

Had to look it up, but kendama are rather prominent in a few anime here or there whenever they show bored kids. It really is one of those things that doesn't really cross cultures...like say if some American kid created a paddleball Choujin.

Well, you could compare it to a cup-and-ball game, that's the closest it can get to, I suppose. I was thinking of translating "kendama" as "cup-and-ball" for the song.

God, I love the pinheaded laughs in this series.

You'd love One Piece, then. Some of the most out there laughs. Ranging from the semi-normal "Yaaaaaa-hahahahaha!" to "FOOOOSFOSFOSFOS!"

Former resident song translator, and as a result, probably the distant, insignificant relative of the translation family on this board.

Update (7/1/2012 [7th Jan]) - Years away can calm a mind down quite well. I don't think of myself as some maligned martyr of the site. Rather it's just that I was unfortunately caught by the mudslinging of a rather unpleasant (and unprofessional) translator, who didn't like people taking the spotlight away from him, particularly if they happened to actually be able to properly translate work, as opposed to him. Nevertheless, despite the fact that all my work was my own, I got constantly accused of plagiarism, thanks to this unpleasant individual constantly saying how I stole his work. (When rather, it was going to end up being the other way round.)

I'm a lot more forgiving about the whole ideal, with how I ended up getting treated on this forum, as a result of this incident, but at the same time, I am still not in any mind to come back and join in again, nor will I uplaod any more of my translation work on here. This includes any of my old work, or my newer and much more accurate work. Some may see this as being petty, spiteful or based off an old grudge, and you may be right. However, I thought I'd explain things a little.

Chapter 217: I get the feeling that not calling Kendaman "BallAndCupman" is going to be one of those things I really regret later on, like not calling Okamarasu "Trannysaurus". (I swear to god, someday I'll go back and redo that chapter just for the sake of using that pun)
http://www.megalopuad.coc/?d=6UCPF14D

Also, some text got cut off on the title page of 216. Here's the correct version.

So what's the pun about calling him "BallandCupman?" "Kendaman" actually is a nice pun considering that all of "kendama" is in it aside from the "n" at the end. (sort of like how I'm starting to come around to "Mildman" due to "Mild Man-nered" akin to it coming off into the true Big the Budo outfit...though it still doesn't explain why it looks so ridiculous)

Well, think 'atheletic supporter.'

Since Mace was a Galactic Wrestling name, I wonder if the fact that the tagteam was "Mace and Screw Kid" was a coincidence? I figured it was intentional on the part of 4Kids, as it seemed like their type of subversive humor.

Also, was it just me, or was there an error in the panel where the rings started turning back around when everyone came out?

Oh-- on the 'Great!'/Niku thing... Why not "Greatoh!" (or "Greater!" to anglize it if you want) like he actually says in the anime?

And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Mm, I'd agree with Orgg-san. "Great!" is misleading on its own, but "Greater!" could work for a nickname that Kinnikuman could call "Great".

I'd personally go with 'Greato' or 'Greatoh,' as that's what he calls him in the anime.

Well, only really for the reason that pretty much every syllable in kana ends in a vowel, and "Great" is roughly "gu-re-to". But, yes, "Greato" would also probably work as a silly little thing, or an in-joke. Frankly, I'm sure any can be used, and then just explained in a credits page or something.

Oh Great!

BTW: I did do two chapters today but somehow the file didn't get sent to me...but all I can say is: Robin Mask is a douche, Neptuneman is a douche, and Big the Budo...is a good punching bag for a boss villain.

Chapter 218: I have this theory that Mongolman spent most of the Throne arc gathering as many Brutal/Violent Chojin as he could and turning them into an actual organization so that he'd have a back-up group to join in case Akuma Shogun won.

Well the Brutal Choujin seemed to all but vanish aside from him and maybe Brocken Jr. He's probably upset that he feels so lonely with the Perfect, Devil and Justice taking his spotlight.

Chp. 221: I was going to say something about Mildman again, but instead let me state this: this isn't the last we see of Rollerman!: http://mangahelpers..../releases/12459
Chp. 222: You know "Quarrel" would have made more sense than "Kenka" considering that they speak...well, English there. (well unless he spoke Welsh or Gaelic): http://mangahelpers..../releases/12460

So why not just make Kenkaman from Wales, use the Welsh version of "Quarrel" and we'll all be happy that he doesn't have a Japanese name.

Then again, I just laughed the other day translating a Wingman "explanation" on how a being from another realm can talk to a Japanese person aside from the obvious "because it's a manga".

So we'll be using "Quarrelman" instead of "Kenkaman?" Good. At least we'll not be using 'Street Scrapper.' How did they come up with that?

Then again, "Kahn Man" for Mongolman made SOME sense, as "Mongol" is a slur against down syndrome affected people here in America. Plus, pun FTW.

He was later retconned to "Lomeinman".

But yeah, "Quarrelman". It's always irritated the heck out of me that 99% of the cast have English names, but occasionally a "Kenkaman" or "The Manriki" will pop up with a Japanese name for absolutely no reason, and both have English translations of their names in their special attacks, no less. (plus 2/3 of the fandom doesn't even know what Manriki means)
