I'm excited about the news that DST will be giving this guy away at C2E2 in Chicago. This will give me a chance to get one, and not at eBay's ridiculous prices.

I'm going the Con to. Hope to score 1 as well. Ebays price sucks........
It would be cool if they were giving away a different Beast in Chicago or a diff paint scheme or something...I look forward to hearing what TGB has to update us about these beasts and about bb's, its getting close to the end of March.

I just realized that they copied my Gruesome Gator repaint from way back in the day!
Sweet. That looks really cool.
Any chance you could upload a bigger pic ?

No sorry, its old. I don't even have that fig anymore. The guy who bought it probably pitched it to the battle beast toy makers to relaunch the line..... Hey look it worked!Sweet. That looks really cool.

Well I know way back @ in spring 2006 the head of the Hasbro Boy's Toys division contacted me (several emails & phone calls) to get all the info he could on BB/LB. I sent him the scans of all the BB/LB cards and the BB/LB books. Then I attempted to meet up w/ him @ SD CC 2006 (but, I had way too much on my plate in real life @ the time) and we just couldn't cross paths @ the same time @ SD CC. After that, I never heard from him again, but, then a couple of years ago that BB Hyena sketch surfaced. So I am fairly sure he did his proposal w/ the heads of Hasbro, but, obviously nothing came of it.
That said, I too wonder why Takara doesn't just use the Beastformers name (which who knows, they just might), but, my friend spoke directly to the DST guys @ NY TF 2010 and this is what they told him.
I also have some info and hopefully some substantial/concrete proof of what is going on w/ the BB minimates, but, I won't know for sure until the end of March.

It's almost the end of March !! I'm eagerly awaiting whatever news The Godbeast has.
(Even though I don't really like the new Gator, I'm keen to see what's in the works).

So I spoke personally to the sculptor of the DST BB line, Rudy Garcia @ KC Comic Con this weekend. He did a drawing of a Carp BB for me (for shadowbat actually). Rudy told me he sculpted 4+ BB for DST. Gator, Gorilla, Rhino, Octopus... He offered to bring the prototypes to the con the next day. The protos are a little over 4" tall. Rudy also said that after he sculpted the 4, DST had the Gator made based on his original Gator sculpt. He said DST wanted to produce figures from his original sculpts about BB size, not quite, @ 2.5-3" tall. He wasn't sure they are going to make those after they have already turned his original Gator sculpt into this Gator Minimate.
He told me exactly the same info I heard from my contact @ New York Toy Fair and that is...DST only owns the name "Battle Beast" not the intellectual property. Not the original logo, not the symbols, not the rub system, not the names, not the font, nothing more than the term/name "Battle Beast." So basically, they purchased the name, had Rudy sculpt up 4+ protos and turned the Gator sculpt into a Minimate.

So the protos were bigger than regular BB. Maybe DST keep those for another BB line, not included in the Minimates one. DST has already made figures from different scale (3'3/4, 12inch, etc) so who knows what they can do with the BB name.
I hope the don't make the other three in to minimates.
I'm already picturing a blocky gorilla.
Hopefully DST browse sites such as this to gauge interest, and adjust accordingly.
Thanks for the info GODBEAST.

Given we know now that they can produce nothing similar to the old Battle Beasts outside the name, I'm just going to start calling these Mini-Beasts.
I was gonna suggest Crapple Beasts. You know ... ? Because they're crap.
Mini-Beasts is probably more appropriate though.
I refuse to call 'em Battle Beasts too.

Of course they can. Look at Remco who is producing GI Joe like figure for years now. They can't include the rub symbol but they can make figures similar to the old Battle Beasts. They can't produce the exact same ones (bye bye reissue) but new figures/animals in the same style is possible.
On the other hand Hasbro/Takara can produce exact copies of the old ones (reissue) but can no longer call them Battle Beasts.
To be honnest I think it would be perfect if we could have a DST Mini Beasts line and a Hasbro/Takara Beastformers one. So everybody would be happy except my bank account.

Spoke to Chris Myers of DST.
Looks like their only plans at this point is to do these cons, give away different versions of the Gator and that is it for now.
They don't want to build this up too much and then let fans down.
I put it out there for them to drop something here as either an exclusive or ???, but, could read him one way or another as to whether or not that would be something interesting to them.
The black C2 E2 Gator comes w/ a gun and not the sword the NY Toy Fair one came w/.
The handed them out @ noon on Sat. and went through them lightning fast and then that was it.
