Does anyone have the picture of Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider?

Here's a shot of the transformed Ghost Rider:

Superherohype.com

Pretty cool! Maybe it will somehow offset the debacle that is Nicholas Cage.

thanks for the info on Madagascar, I was debating whether to take my younger daughter(6) to see it. I'm not much of a movie goer in fact I've set a personal record this year by seeing 3 in a month and 4 or 5 for the year :o

You're welcome. It's not really an award winner of a movie, but it is a nice film for younger kids. Nothing in it was scarey or very adult (unlike other animated films). Personally, the only real complaint I had with it was the Hippo was pretty shallow a character. She just comes off a a stereotype of a black woman. But it was still enjoyable.

I am really looking forward to BAtman (didn't see it yet. I mean, I just saw Star Wars last week.) and I'll probably see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'll probably wait for the Pink Panther remake to hit the second run theaters, but other than that, that's it for me. I mean, it's 7 bucks a matinee, and you sit through like a half hour of Coke and Fandango ads (the latter of the two is harder to watch than botched eye surgery, IMO). It's only worth it to see something good. Plus, if I see the Rebound preview one more time, I'll end up in a Hanabal Lecter restraining device. God, I hope that film flops big time.

Did I ever tell you that the dean of my college looked and sounded like Nicholas Cage?

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have the numbers on "The Longest Yard"? It seems like it didn't live up to its own hype.

well, Box Office Mojo had this to say:

as of yesterday, it has grossed $144,688,110 dollars, with a budget of $82 million, this is not counting the $9,437,582 dollars it's made worldwide (witch would add up too $154,125,692). It can be seen as a hit in some ways since it did supast it's budget, but next to Star Wars, Batman and War of the Worlds, It can be seen as a flop.

I am really looking forward to Land of the Dead. I love Romero flicks especially Dawn of the Dead (including the remake which of course wasn't his).

Saw it this weekend and it was great! I enjoyed the hell out of it and was so caught up that it went by really fast--too fast. The only bad thing about it was it ended--seriously, there is so much more to do with it that I hope there is a sequel or two.

The movie was resolved yet unresolved :excl: Well unresolved in the sense that I was ready for them to move on and establish new communities, etc. In fact, there could be two sequels. One with the main characters going off in Dead Reckoning to establish a new community and one with the remaining city inhabitants starting up their new city(s).

Ok, there will not be any Academy Award nominations but surely you didn't expect that from a Romero flick. It is entertaining, action-packed, has the satire and stupid jokes you're used to in "Dead" movies and you really get into the characters and the plot or at least I did. You also get to see Zombies gnawing on all kinds of body parts (including intestines; gotta have the Zombie pulling out intestines) like you'd expect from a good Zombie movie and they're normal Zombies too i.e. they don't run around like the ones in the Dawn of the Dead remake although they are capable of primitive learning, thinking and communicating.

I also enjoyed seeing John Leguizamo & Dennis Hopper in the film; both had enjoyable performances. The other actors were enjoyable too but something about having Hopper & Leguizamo in there made it even better usually you get nothing but unknowns in "Dead" movies. Well worth the money to see it in the theatres.

well, I'll be the first to say this now, I was wrong, big time. Mainly, from my list, 2 of the movies I said that would flip didnt flop at all, and thouse 2 movies whrere pretty good too shockly, Mainly Hitchhikers Guide and Fantastic 4 (yes, I liked, so sue me ) but so far, the rest of the predictions are comming out alright, espeiclay movies like Herby Fully Loaded and the Honnymooners.

The Next big ones comming up are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Island, the Bad News Bears, House of a 1,000 Corpses 2: Devils Rejects, Sky High, Sealth, Dukes of Hazard, the 40-year-old Vergin (my life story it seems :() and the Brothers Grimm. Out of all thouse, I belive Sealth will be the biggest flop, I think with the compition of other movies out at the time (posibly The Island) will crush it. The rest of these movies are suprinly low budget and will make enough to cover cost and then some (like Sky High). But who knows what could happend between now and the begining of the Fall movie season.

I'm quite suprised this season with the lack of big budget movies, Batman can be seen as somewhat big budget movie, but when you break it down, it really issnt, most of it went to advertisng, witch im pretty sure the earnings of the movie have covered, but alot of movies are just really alot of comedies and family films, only real big budget movies where Star Wars in May, Batman in June and now Fantastic 4 in July, the rest of the summer has alot of comedies or family films really taking center stage, could this be a sign of things to come?

"Not possible! You can't watch too much TV... Television is reality, and reality is less than television...The television screen has become the retina of the mind's eye--- Long Live the New Flesh!!!"-Gilgar on TV

As much as I'd like to take credit for that, it's from Videodrome a great old movie, rent it if you've never seen--You won't be sorry.

You mentioned Bad News Bears...that's going to be hard to live up to the original cuz it was great! It was a movie I had forgotten about until I saw previews for the new one. I rented the original for my girls (they both play Fastpitch) and they loved it as did I.

We'll check out the new one but I don't know..... Billy Bob does seem to make a cool Buttermaker and it is directed by Richard Linklater flick--I loved Dazed & Confused and not just because it was filmed here in Austin & at my old Junior High which made it even more nostalgic & lovable--so hopefully BNB will be ok too.

I want to see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory too. It looks pretty good.

What's up with all the remakes? Are they out of ideas? Don't want to pay writers? or just don't want to take a chance on something new?

FF is very interesting in the fact that it is getting totally panned by all the critics. Rotten Tomatoes.com has FF with a pathetic freshness rating of 25%. It has gotten 35 fresh reviews and 107 rotten reviews. On the other hand, Box Office Mojo has FF grossing $67 million domestically and $18 million overseas for a total of $86 million in just its first 5 days. With a total produciton cost of $100 million, this movie is sure to turn a profit.

I predicted that this movie was going to be a flop. It clearly has been a flop with the critics, but it is going to be a hit financially. I can't offhand think of another movie that got so terribly panned by the critics and yet made so much money.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Wasn't the original Star Wars blasted by the critics?

Not really... that's a myth that George Lucas likes to perpetuate in order to brainwash fans into thinking that there's really no difference between the prequels and the original trilogy. In fact, the first Star Wars almost got the Academy Award for best picture of the year, and Empire was also lauded by the critics.

This article from MSN further disproves the myth:

Sorry, George: Critics used to love ‘Star Wars’

Of course, Star Wars apologists say that MSN is conspiring against Lucas for some unknown, conspiracy-ladened reason... which is an absurd notion. MSN is just calling George on his bluff. The problems with the critics started with Return of the Jedi and continued with the prequel trilogy, which is predictable because, for many reasons, they're not as strong as the first two movies.

Aside from that, it felt like Christmas in July, when the over hyped crap film "Rebound" flopped big time.

Now, this movie got too much press and commercial time (one commercial was on every commercial break every day until the film's release). Now, it seemed to disappear very quietly into the bargain theaters, not even a month after it's release. Now, having a personal vendetta about the film (some movie trailers make me just want to jam a fork in my arm to mask the pain, this was one of them), I couldnm't have been happier.

You know, in a summer full of Bad News bear ripoffs and remakes, none of them are doing well, and they all seemed to do poorly. Even Bad News Bears itself opened at a pathetic fifth place.

The Island is also an opening weekend loser this week. Number 4... and a distant one at that.

Can't wait to see how poorly Stealth will do.

you know, this has been a weird year for movies, we havent seen any domanating movies, despite some high profile movies released (Star Wars episode 3 and Batman come to mind), usualy, these kinds of movies do extrodanarly well, usualy going for 3-4 weeks in the #1 spot before it's replaced by another film, but it seems that trend is going the way of the do-do and is disapearing rapidly, im suprised Charley and the Chocolate Factory is doing this well, same with Batman and Star Wars, but list of lackusters, DVD's and the internet has become the problem, as you can just rent/buy/download whatever you please without paying sky high prices for it. I'm pretty sure most movies this summer will make even break and hopefuly get some momentum on DVD, but as the ever increacing problems arise, less and less movies are seeing the in-and-out treatment more quickly.

Perfect example? xXx: State of the Union, it barely came out the same week as hitchhikers guide (april 30th) and it's comming (or is it already out?!) on DVD in less then 2 months of it's release. I Can see why they would put it out this quickly, but is it really nesessary? hell, im afrade to ask about more popular movies...

There haven't been many dominating blockbuster movies this summer. So far, the top hit movies of the summer are:

1. Star Wars Ep. III with $376 million domestically in 10 weeks.

2. War of the Worlds with $208 million domestically in 4 weeks.

3. Batman Begins with $191 million domestically in 6 weeks. (My personal favorite of the summer.)

4. Madagascar with $187 million domestically in 9 weeks.

5. Mr. and Mrs. Smith with $175 million domestically in 7 weeks. (This was a total surprise.)

6. Longest Yard with $155 million domestically in 9 weeks.

7. Fantastic Four with $123 million domestically in 3 weeks. (Another shocker! I thought this would be a huge bomb, yet in 3 weeks it has already made roughly $23 million in profit domestically and $101 million in profit worldwide.)

8. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with $115 million domestically in 2 weeks.

You know... I feel like starting another thread about that subjest...

The funny thing is that Cinderella man did pretty poorly after being hyped and getting genreally good reviews and Oscar Buzz. Of course, I feel this is due in part to the release was too close to the release of the similar "Million Dollar Baby." I know it's been a half a year, but...

An unfortunate flop must be Howl's Moving Castle (I got that right, didn't I?) because once again, Disney gave it a poor and limited release. they did the same thing to Spirited Away, with it only going to expensive arthouse theaters (at least around here... Ironically, this is Boston, and I've seen 2 theaters that had both movies, both times they were midnight shows). This really angered me the first time, and it still makes my blood boil. This is the same Disney that gave The Jungle Book 2 a national release. I mean, with the popularity of anime, you'd think it'd get a national dubbed release or something. But that always bothered me about anime movie releases. We either get the Pokemons, the Digimons, or the Yugioh's nationally released, and the art films with good animation not based on toy lines get art house limited releases or they just go to DVD.

August is coming, and there doesn't look to be a memorable film in the Bunch. Sky High, Dukes of Hazzard, Stealth.... nothing. There's a supposed Pik Panther remake with Steve MArtin I kind of want to see, but the next film I'm looking forward to is Wallace and Grommet in Curse of the WereBunny. Now, I've been anticipating a W&G full lenght feature since I heard one was planned after Chicken Run was released.

Sky High

Hey, hey, hey!

That has three things going for it-- 1) Kurt Russel plays a tough guy. 2) Bruce Campbell plays an a-hole. 3) They Might Be Giants actually COVERED DEV-0's Through Being Cool on the soundtrack. That might be TWO things going at once!

I dunno.... Sky high seems a little like it borrowed it's plotline about a school for superheros from UM.... of course, only a select few watched it, so I'm going with Charles Xaivier's school for the gifted (or whatever it's called).

I mean, I have mega reservations about ANYTHING Disney, live action stuff especially, after they TOTALLED the Inspector Gadget film... mortifying discribes it best. I usually am one for a Super Hero parody, but this looks... phoned in, perhaps to cash in off the success of super hero films lately, not to mention Pixar's Incredibles, which they made a crap load off of after their own animated films went straight into the toilet. well, except for Lilo and Stitch.
