The flimsyness of some of the weapons bothers me much more than the plunger sticking out of the back. I don't understand why all the swords aren't as thick and solid as the one for the bat. The swords for my lion, clear dolphin, turtle, and gorilla are flimsy with a natural bend to them that looks stupid. I haven't been a big collector of these and don't plan to get any more, but it was disappointing that about 1/3 of the ones I got came with poorly made weapons.

I actually frequently overlook this for the plungers, but this is definitely a bigger issue than the plungers. To put it simply, some of the weapons are downright shit. The turtle's especially is so thin and flimsy I don't expect it to have a very long life-span, and that's with it sitting on my shelf. Forget about it entirely if a kid gets their mitts on it.

I don't know how I overlook this every time we have a talk about these figures.

I think we all basically agreed the weapons were crap when we got the first wave, and have ignored it since. On one hand I actually like displaying the figures with out the weapons (except for like, Killer Shark with his Trident), but on the other I can't force myself to get rid of the weapons. When I was a child in the 80s, my mom would throw out the weapons from my Battle Beasts because they were stiff and sharp and I've had a thing about completeness since, heh. So, I make due.

I don't know where I got my OCD collecting behaviours from but for that reason alone I couldn't get rid of the weapons. I think the figures look cool with them in hand, I just wish they made them a little more thicker. I can deal with them being rubbery, as they'll last longer during play. (My kid likes to play with mine every now and again, and I feel bad cringing every time they're smushed together.) I just wish they weren't so scrawny.

Yeah, I think the weapons really are the worst thing about this line. the sculpts and paint apps are great. The dice thing is weird, but it doesn't bother me that much. But those stupid shields just make me groan, and the fact that several of the characters all have the same weapons or shields just makes me not want to have them hold anything. But the 'squishyness' of the weapons is the real kicker, I don't know of any other toys today which have such poorly thought out plastic on their weapons. I would have been fine if they were rigid but delicate, but no, they are comically squishy, and tend to warp and bend on their own while the characters hold them. Silly.

I think we are all a bit spoiled with the cool ass weapons which came with the battle beasts and even more so, the laser beasts. At least this line is really Churning forward, and putting out A LOT of characters. I feel like the pace of releases is perfect for the type of line this is.

The swords for my Arms Micron Stunt Wildrider are made of pretty much the same plastic (admitedly the swords on him are bigger and thicker) so I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it's all squishy for safety reason. I think we should be glad they even include weapons (though they really really need to add a few more choices to the generic and add a gun to the mix) since the weapons and shield aren't needed for the game aspect.

Shields could be better though, gotta admit. They aren't without their perks though... I got my Armadillo today and I gave him the round shield that came with Mantarei and pegged it into the hole on his shoulder pad, since the guy can't hold a shield anyway.

That's a good point: the bat's sword is a decent thickness, as well as the pigeon's gun, but the rest of them are pretty pathetic.

IMO the choice of material can be blamed on the crappiness of the weapons more than anything else, and I agree that it's lame only the starter pack figures come with unique weapons. Having said that, most of those weapons are unique enough and some I really like. The Orca's sword is damn sweet, as is the Owl's book shield and sceptre, Whale's trident and shield, Tiger's sword, Wolf' sword, Lion's sword, and don't forget the Deer's drill. All have nice thematic elements that I really appreciate; I just wish it were made from rigid plastic. Seems that would also allow them to retain finer detailing. The only figures I display with weapons are the unique ones; the rest are small enough to be stored in little ziplock bags for posterity.

The only of the 'generic' weapons I display is the one that looks like it was obviously designed for the Rhino before the decision was passed down the production line that not all beasts would be getting their own unique weapons. This is just my speculation, however, but it would explain that one oddity among the lot of generic swords and sabers.

As Louk said though, I think everyone agreed that they suck for the most part quite a while ago.

One thing to note is that the peg size of the weapons is the same as the old Battle Beasts, so you can trade weapons between the generations.

It is also the same peg size used by Transformers Cyberverse Figure and the peg holes in the hand is the exact same size as a LEGO minifigure's hand (or a KREON if you want some more gun choices). So you got options if you want to equip your Beast Saga figures with other weapons. Legion class Twinstrike for exemple comes with a pretty sweet hammer.

One could decide to recast those flimsy weapons into harder resin versions.

So I got the bar-code scanners today and I spent some time playing around with one, and wow I'm pretty impressed. I can see why this thing is intended to be priced at about $40; it's fancy! Essentially the unit is meant to serve as a database to replace the need for players to carry around cards and physical figures to play the game.

There are numerous functions to choose from from the control panel, but if you select the one with an icon of a card, you're given a time window to swipe your card. After a valid bar-code is swiped, the unit plays some music and a roaring sound effect accompanied by a little pixel-art of the related beast and some info in Japanese about the character, then it is saved into the database. You are then awarded 50 points that accumulate the determine your 'level'. Repeat swipes of the same card or of the 'burst' version of the card are recognized and rejected by the unit.

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, there is an area of the Takara/Tomy website for claiming rewards which is where the levels come in. I logged about 2/3 of my cards into my blue unit getting it up to level 22, and in the process figured out how to do most of the basic operations including recovering the password for the wallpaper section. The level 10 wallpaper is pretty sweet looking. I've posted a screenshot of the download screen below, but since this is an active franchise and there are mechanisms in place to keep this image from being openly accessed, I'm hesitant to re-post the image itself here for copyright purposes. The others have not yet been released.
Attached File  Untitled-1.jpg   386.09K   54 downloads

Sharing my code on the other hand for the sake of documentation seems fair enough though, right? ;)

Line 1: 6808
Line 2: 9063

http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/beastsaga/sp/index.html#spcode

Other functions I've identified are options to 'compare' one beast to another by swiping their cards in sequence, resulting in a percentage chance of winning I'm assuming. There's also a full catalogue of the dice, which I assume are limited to the ones that came with the beasts that have been logged by the unit. I also stumbled into a battle mode where you can swipe two cards and have them fight.

With lots of mini animations, sound effects, music, it's pretty clear that they put some thought into this thing. Definitely worth $7. Anyway hope you all enjoyed the mini-review and the wallpaper! I might post a more comprehensive review of the functions of the unit once I have some time to figure it out a little more.

BBTS has new items for sale and the 3rd set of blind boxes. I posted a new thread for us to network on getting the figures without all of us buying full cases and/or getting screwed by gambling on a handful of single boxes, etc. Post over there if you're interested. I'm looking for one of each of the figures (opened boxes).

Just got my Vol. 3 Boosters case and the three March figures. I really like the figures this month, and the boosters were pretty cool as well, especially the ray because of the colors used. One thing to note for those that order single blind boxes from BBTS is that the assortment in the case actually seemed to be randomly packed, rather than each figure being packed in groups of three. I can't guarantee this will be the case for every one, but it was nice to see.
Also, the gold dice and the gold cards didn't show up in the top two layers of figures this time around, either. They were all over the place, and I didn't get all of them until I hit the bottom.

I got mine yesterday. I bought 4 blind boxes and received: 1 bull, 1 lion cub, and 2 wolves. That's better than the wave 2 blind four where I got: 2 rhinos and 2 turtles.

yeah, the 3rd series of the blind boxes is definitely my favorite. The white Wolf, green ox, and Manta ray are particularly awesome!

I've been keeping up with the manga as well as the anime, and I've noticed some that have not been seen in figure form yet, but since they make significant appearances and are introduced by name, it's probably a safe bet that we'll see them at some point:

In no particular order, here are figures we've not seen official releases for yet but have been shown in either photos or illustration/animation. # denotes an anime/manga appearance, * denotes that at least one photo has been recorded:
-Mole #
-Pig #
-Crab #(Will be released in Gashapon set vol.2 this summer)
-Clam #
-Octopus #
-Hammerhead Shark #
-Sawtooth Shark #
-Doberman Pinscer #
-Boar #
-Koala #
-Cheetah #
-Mouse #
-Zebra * #
-Mandrill * #
-Fox * #
-Red Panda * #
-Salmon * #

I'm sure I've forgotten some, but that's a list to start with anyway. I'm guessing we will see more releases crop up over the summer that will fill in a number of these missing instances. Hope that helps. :)

I think the Beaver 'Bebop' is also a 'seen on tv' guy who has no toy counterpart as well. I really hope they post preorders for new figs soon. I feel like I preordered all the other ones last year! I guess I still have the kangaroo coming.

Some of the missing guys appear in the Jipuroto line, like the pig or the mole.

Hey remembwer when BBTS sold that card reading cube for 7,99? They now repaired their pre-order goof and put it back up to 34,99, although they respected the pre-order price so I'm still getting mine for that price :D

Ahh yep, I forgot about the Beaver somehow, and yeah I noticed they upped the price to the intended MSRP. Oh and speaking of the bar-code reader, I'm not sure if anyone has used the code I posted to access the level 10 wallpaper yet, but there's a Penguin depicted in the top-left of the illustration that looks pretty sweet so we also have that figure to look forward to (I assume GJNL would be particularly interested in that bit :D )

So I got the newest three guys yesterday, and this is a pretty strong release to take a break on. I don't feel like there is a let down in these three this time around.

Dacker is the star this time, his colors are bright, and eye catching, his sculpt is wonderful, with the propellers on his shoulders, his aviator goggles, the swept back portions on his hips, and his pontoon boots. He fits in well with the rest of the Wind Warriors, and makes me feel a little disappointed there haven't been more figures in the Sky Tribe. I can't wait for General Hawk to get a non-gashapon release.

Wonder River is also a nice figure. He has less color, mostly a seafoam green on his armor and a golden brown for his fur, but the accents on his shoulders and the red crosses look nice. I love the sculpted stethasope on his forehead, and the little crosses on his crotch pad. He seems younger in his toy form than the animated version due to the latter's moustache. The toy is very rounded and inviting, lacking the sharp edges on the shoulders and hips that many of the other toys have. Overall he's a good figure, his color is a little bland, but he is cool.

Finally we have the Eastern Army Spy Morgan. This guy is very cool, a purple armored flying squirrel with a cutting techno feel. He has a cool visor scuplted on his forehead and neat mechanical wings on his arms and heels as well. He definatly looks like he can fill the ninja roll we've seen him taking in the cartoon, pulling off mission impossible style infiltration. The green on his chest and gold paint xs on his shoulders break up his colors nicely and he has a nice overall color scheme when sitting with the other Eastern Army Soldiers.

All in all this is a good wave for the line to take a break on, three strong figures and little disappointment beyond the fact there aren't any coming out next month.

Here is my collection, as complete as I'm willing to get, no vehicles, burst versions or gashapons:
