I couldn't agree more on the over articulation. Granted, I'm looking through the lens of "playing with toys," but even as a collector it's too much. The swivel thigh makes zero sense to me. What I really struggle to understand is the thought process behind the case assortments – as a parent.
I agree, it can be too much even for collectors. Especially when it's a company, who in my opinion, hasn't mastered articulation yet. It's still an ever evolving (or devolving in some cases) facet of the action figure business. It's becoming very difficult to differentiate what is supposed to kids toys and collectables these days.
If you're going to make Spider-man, Cap, etc. pretty much standard in every case (which makes sense), then why not make some of the figures a little more kid friendly? I understand you need to appeal to kids and collectors, but would it really cause that much uproar? The person buying his 15th Spider-Man is probably going to buy it whether it has swivel hips or not. The Green Lantern figures were/are AWESOME as toys.
I understand what your saying. It's my opinion that the movie figure lines are way more kid friendly in quality. The thigh swivels can be loose. But usually the playsets or vehicles come with a figure that has Green Lantern syle articulation. I really don't understand why they don't have a seperate kid series in the vein of the old Marvel Super Heroes line. That was a great line in my opinion
Lastly, I was stoked to see Ultron. I had never heard of the character, but we just watched a few Avenger episodes with him. It's always nice to pick up a bad guy – even if Santa did the picking up. I think Med. Veers will be super excited...in 3 months.
Wow! I honestly can't believe you never heard of Ultron before! He is a very old character! As for the figure itself. The shoulder pads on the figure pop off very easily, so just so you know. You can either find the single carded version that just came out, or you may be able to still find the comic pack version too. Same figure different color highlights. Right now, this line really lacks love for either villains or heroines.
OH! Also, I saw the Avengers repaints with the light up bases at TRU as well. Very lame! Poor paint apps, and that $20 buck price tag is such a joke. I've never felt so relieved to know I'm not a 100% fanatical completist.
