So which figures are the top 5 so far (I'm too lazy to do it myself) thought maybe one of you's would of worked it out ;)

At this point, who cares what's in the top 5.
As far as I could see voting is running till the end of the month,
but I could be wrong.

Yeah but have noticed the voting has slowed down, I think that the main bulk of fans and members have voted by now.

I'd agree with that.
Almost a month of voting is a bit much.

I can't figure out why there was such a rush to get into series 2 in the first place.

The funding hadn't even happened for s1 and they already were taking submissions for s2.
No rules for submissions is how we end up with 30-50 solid ideas and 400 scribbles, joke entries and junk submissions.

Relax enjoy the ride of s1, make some other color ways and then deal with s2.

I really liked s1, but s2 has the makings of a disaster written all over it.

Yeah I don't think they realised the fever that Series 1 Generated, yeah they needed some sort of guidelines. But hey let's just appreciate series 1 then see what happens with series 2.... give it time it might end up being Great......

GITD will be the 8th colorway for S1. I'd rather see good colors like orange and purple be picked as exclusives for S2.

S2 looks like #11 Shirtle, #42 Pumpkin King, #113 BABEE, #134 Cuddlehard, and #357 Puke Knight. I only voted for one of them, but that's a really solid series 2. They've just been extending their leads the longer the vote goes. I was worried about shady voting in the beginning, but the obvious "campaigning" votes have gone to designs that aren't even in the running.

S2 doesn't feel rushed to me. The kickstarter probably won't even be set up until the 5 sculpts are final. The long voting period has brought in new supporters. The long submission period was a little crazy, and I'd like to have a series 3 vote on the existing strong designs before adding a lot more to the mix.

Maybe the coolest thing about the line is that it's open to anyone, so there will always be designs that you consider to be crap. Don't vote on them. If scrolling through 400+ designs to pick 5 is too much trouble, then don't vote. Even if the submission thread is more organized next time around the number of designs to choose from each series will still be huge.

Other than that baby figure (which is a great sculpt, just not really interesting to me) I'll be glad to get the others as part of Series 2.

I totally agree with iwao. I'm already ready for series 2! Don't forget that after the winners are chosen it will take quite some time for the figures to actually get in people's hands. I'd rather get the ball rolling sooner than later. I'm an impatient guy though. :joecool:

I also think the votes so far are pointing to a really strong lineup. And this is from someone who only voted for 1-2 of them. People are going to have different opinions, not every figure is going to be everyone's cup of tea. And someone's perception of what is a strong concept can be completely different from what someone else considers to be a strong concept. I give credit to anyone who submitted a design and will gladly buy these toys no matter which ones make the cut. I am sure they'll turn out really cool.

OK, maybe disaster is a bit strong of a word to use.

Open to everyone is good and all but,
Shooting hoops in my drive way doesn't make me a basketball player,
scribbling out a half ass attempt at a character doesn't make someone an artist.

Maybe quality vs quantity would be better for some of these guys submitting designs.

We got 460 this round,
455 will re-submitted by the "artist" for round 3,
there will prolly be another 300-ish new ones for S3.

I don't know if I can wade through 700 entries to pick 5.

With this many to go through, will the best ones rise to the top of the votes?

I'd really like 2 series to come out of all this for this round.

Backing would be there I'm sure and there was 3k or left from the s1 KS.

I'd really hate the line turning into a political type of deal.
Where the best candidate is drown out by money, media or "the good ol' boys club"
cough* Ron Paul *cough

Edit: Part of my frustration comes from the campaigned votes, which are very easy to see for 1 group of designs, and have repeated new guy votes.

I recall reading that they have something in place to prevent the S3 submissions from being flooded like S2. A concept thread and a separate finished submissions thread. That should cut down all the unfinished or half-assed entries from making it to the voting.

You're not being harsh at all. I mean, just looking at the last few votes in that thread, there are three posts in a row voting for #1. What the f*ck? I mean seriously. What. The. F*ck. It's a total piece of shit that looks like it was drawn by a 6 year old. It's about as far from any concept of a decent designer minifigure as my pubes.

And then you have a load of muppets who have joined just to vote for all those crappy figures that look like they were sculpted from salt dough for a school project. You know the ones I mean, there's a bunch of them in the 30 range. No finesse and the same trite, static pose.

I hope everyone at October Toys isn't going to take the votes as an absolute guide to what should be made, because we could end up with some total junk.

Well, I think if something is obviously bogus it would get kicked. Or whoever they got to sculpt it would kick it up a notch.

Personally, I'm not fond of some of the top concepts right now.
I'm not a fan of Cuddlehard. I think it's getting excessive A$$Kiss attention, not that it's a bad entry. But there are plenty of better concepts I think.
Babee has the quality and the look. Top notch really. But I'm not a fan of Babies of any scale.

I think about 100 designs should carry over to S3 voting, but you know a few people won't take the hint if they got no votes or 1 vote. It's just something to either accept or allow it to turn you off to the series completely.

I used to think I would want S3 to be the 6-10 vote getters of this round, but I think it will be stronger with a re-vote. The current top 5 have about 200 votes that could be re-distributed, and those votes went to good designs this round. Living Candle, Plague Doctor, Snake Girl, and The Elder look to have a good shot at S3. Then there is a load in the mid-teen vote range.

I want to vote again on the ones I like that didn't make it this round, so voting will be easy as long as they are re-submitted. I don't understand the lack of votes on #122 unless people don't trust that the design will translate to a mini-figure.

peterthegreat's votes on page 14 are awesome. He couldn't even bother to pick 5 of that guy's designs. He just went with 3.

I also noticed the recent surge for design #1 along with other similar designs, but it doesn't matter. The current top 5 are killing it right now and it would take obvious shenanigans for the shit designs to catch up.

I don't like the feel of the Voting system. I dunno why exactly, it's hard for me to put my finger on...
Maybe because it's so drawn out, or perhaps from the countless shady looking votes that look like they are fake.
I'm worried to think it might be the current top 5, as I'm not really sold on a few of them.
Maybe I'm just being negative, dunno...

Agree with most of the comments made here tho.

Yeah they should have more regulations for those who can vote. I don't think brand new members who only join to vote should be able to. They should have already joined if they are interested in the line. Why wait till the last second to join and vote? leaves it too open for people to pad the vote.

also, I think one way to ween entries would to only allow sculpted figures be in the final voting, sucks for those that can sculpt or get their entry sculpted. But i dont think voting on a picture is right, since the final sculpt can look nothing like the drawing or not do the draw justice. Then what~? you're stuck with it~?

Hahaha salt dough. My mom has a few creations made of salt dough she hangs on her Christmas tree. That was not only obnoxious enough to only vote for his own creations he is diligently working to have mom, sister, grandma, cousins and so on vote for just his designs. Not only is it bad form but a slap in the face to the whole community with how blatant it is. He will need another 30 relatives or so to unseat top five. That makes it even more pathetic.

There are definitely some differences between series I and series II. The psychologist in me wants to say a large part of it is perception, but I'm actually thinking that's not the case.

I want to say that the reason so many people liked all the S1 sculpts but are waffling on the current leading S2 sculpts is due to the "sequel effect." The sequel effect is something I just made up right now on the fly but it means the sequel may be as good or better than the original but for purely psychological reasons, people can't accept that. :)

However, like I said, I don't think that's the case. The other main difference is that for the S1 voting, it was 99.9% people from October Toys voting, i.e., toy collectors and makers who know cool toys and designs when they see them. Now for S2 the voting has been opened to the public, we get what we've gotten. Perhaps next time, we could do something like a delegate system where the community votes some "representatives" into a Toy Congress, and those reps vote for the S3 figures, haha.

However, the only problem with scenario two, is that the votes for Cuddlehard are mostly coming from OT members. Firstly, I think S2 is way too early to pull a recursive OMFG! logo sculpt (that's something you so for S23 when you've run out of original ideas), and secondly, imho, it's certainly not the best design/sculpt of the bunch. The OT crew has also decided to go with the Pumpkin piece, which is a cool sculpt, but again, imo, it's a little early to be going with homages to OT and whatnot. I'd prefer waiting several series down the line.

So, whether it's a bunch of newbies voting or the OT forum townies, the voting is not sitting well with some people.

Also, I'm have the view of Babee that others have said: great sculpt, but there's not much any room in my collection for baby figurines.

However, having said all that, I still think series two will be cool and fun, and I think some great figures will come out of it!

Yeah, some of those sloppy scribblings are obviously getting friend/mother/sister/whatever votes, but in the end I don't think it will matter. I don't think they'll possibly get enough votes that we'll have to worry about them.

Some people seem to think the only submissions that matter are the "artist" submissions and that I don't get. For me there's a big difference between the 20 second drawings scribbled on folded paper and a drawing that obviously took some time and had thought put into it, though not necessarily from an "artist" and not necessarily perfect. It seems like there is kind of a haughty attitude among some like, "how dare you submit something if you're not an amazing artist!". That sucks the whole fun out of it for me. It becomes more of an art contest and less of a collaboration between like-minded people who want to make something fun and cool together (an initial idea that is not necessarily executed in an artistically amazing way can still be the basis of something really cool).

I do agree with Soupie that having both the logo dude and the pumpkin dude (assuming they both hold strong) is a bit much. I like the pumpkin because it is a more subtle homage--I can see there being a pumpkin guy even if there was no OT connection.

I agree with you guys that series 2 is looking pretty disappointing so far. I don't really like any of the top 5 that much. The voting process does seem flawed. It's as if the designs are being picked based on who the artists are and not the merits or originality of the acual design.

There was one design in the submission thread back when the kickstarter funding was still going on that i REALLY liked but didn't see in the voting thread. It was an angry handgrenade guy. Reminded me of an old video game character or something like that. It was simple but perfect. I thought it would look great in armyman green. Anyone know why it disappeared?

I guess we'll see if S2 gets funded again this year. That is how people are going to REALLY reply to the figures...with their money. There is a fine line with getting voted in and getting funded. People who have their friends and relatives voting (if that is really the case) haven't learned that yet.

Honestly, I hope the figures are cool, but if figures like #1 get in I'll defintely be out on supporting it.
