My last months was depressive. Really depressive. It's the great time when you realize you're in a sh*t.
After the banner contest here (last year) I was pretty happy. I'm allways happy when I'm with photoshop. Do some work, share with others, apreciate other works, you know, that make me feel so good!

But then, huh, in the university and at home the things was very weird. At home, my dad thinks I'm doing nothing and my course it's a bullshizznit. I'm still a bit mentally stressed. He believes in physical works while I have to do a bit of it at home, a LOT at university and have my mind full with creations ALL the time. But NOT the creations I really would like to do.

Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm doing "Visual Arts" or "Marketing and Publicity". I never can do what I would feel good with. I allways have do no an analysis about the teacher, think in "what he would like to see me doing" and do something to get my grade. And not to show my creativity, the influences... It's all about THEIR influences. Because "what they think it's right, what I think is allways wrong, because I'm new". No opportunities. I know it's important to show the techniques and make us construct something based on that. But after a time, we should be free to show one, yes I'm asking just for ONE thing based on our studies.

I love Photoshop and love Manga. But there's NO teacher in this course who accept that. Well, I mean, there is one, but she is a substitute, unfortunately. And even she doesn't agree so much with those types of art.

Even in "Eletronic Arts" we couldn't see about Illustrator, Photoshop, Corel or whatever else. Teacher showed something about 'actions' in PS and ignored me when I asked about other things. Yes, ignored.
All teachers starts to ignore who they see drawing manga or talking about pc programs. They give you an superior look and start saying: "but when you do a paint in canvas you feel..."

WELL, I'M NOT ARGUING about the importance of painting. Or what you feel or not. FOR ME, to feel the ink in the brush is much less compared with my mouse and Photoshop. I'm much more "Me" doing it! I don't like to do paint on canvas. I can learn because it's very important to my knowledge. And I can like it. But the teachers should understand: Doing some electronic drawing, painting it's art too! A new type, of course, but still art!!!! And manga is too! Only because most times the trace is simple it doesn't mean it's less!

I'm not asking to every teacher to do what I'm talking here. I would just like 1 or 2 classes about new type of arts, about orient type of arts... But we almost don't have brazilian arts history.

I was "blocked" from my heart creations for more than a year. And probably I won't have time to do my drawings again... starting on august. And my daddy never understand why I have to do some things for my course, or why sometimes I just have to stay alone trying to create. He just think I'm such a lazy woman.
My BF doesn't understand very well too... He do dirty jokes about the course and the males in the course. I talk to him, but he only stop when I'm really upsad.

I have to be that sad to make him stop? With my dad there's no talk. He keep telling me bad things, doesn't matter what I am feeling: he's one of the "I'm allways right".

I hope to rest a bit from those emotional feelings until my classes starts again.

Sorry for the long (and probaly with a lot of mistakes) text...

Unfortunately with university art classes you're not there to develop a style of your own, that comes later. You're there to learn the basics and the foundations, which is all anyone can really teach you anyway.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with wanting to work in a manga art style, but for an example of why art teachers hate it, just look at any 4 or 5 random accounts on deviantart.com or a similar website. 90% of young artists out there think they can just jump from zero to world-famous manga artist without stopping to learn any sort of actual art skill along the way. They just copy what they see in the latest issue of Shonen Jump (usually poorly), and upload it to the internet, and get a pat on the back from everyone out there just like them. Then they take that to art school and expect the same thing. Again, not saying this is you, this is just how i'm sure it looks from an art teacher's perspective. Best just to get everyone to focus on the basics, you know? That way they can weed out the deviantart manga kids from the people who are actually serious about art.

one word brew, brutal. you should have your own reality tv show where you drive around in a golf cart on a college campus and shoot douchebags drawing third rate manga with koosh balls soaked in ninja turtle slime from a turret mounted cannon. tv worth watching.

I wasn't actually trying to be brutal, especially not regarding Seres Wyvern, who does seem to be a pretty talented artist! I just get carried away sometimes. And i actually walked into my college art classes with the exact same opinion, that my teachers should let me do what i want to do. Unfortunately, they DID. They let me do what i wanted and praised my stuff left and right. So i walked out of year one thinking i was the cat's pajamas, got my first artist's alley gig at a comicon, and dropped out of school the next fall. So i've kind of made it my life's mission to tell college art students to chill out and pay as much attention as possible in life drawing. -_-

I do like your reality show idea though, and would gladly participate. Except that i'd never waste Ninja Turtle Mutagen on college age manga artists. That's what rocks are for.

think about it though, rocks are just gonna hurt. the wtf face they're gonna have after you skip a koosh soaked in slime across they're face would be priceless. you gotta think about the ratings. after you've permanently disabled someone with a rock that just one less dork to pelt. but if you don't maim them and just humiliate them you can keep going back for more. it's just smart business sense. hell, you wouldn't even have to limit it to the manga dorks, you could start blasting stupid frat guys and sorority bee-eye-itches.

oh, and don't forget communication majors!

ahhhhh! hippies. i almost forgot the hippies. crap, is there enough mutagen left in the world for all these targets?

Is "black hole" a racially insensitive term?

Apparently to some. From the City Hall Blog at the Dallas Morning News:

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term.

Judge Jones should be very glad that the central collections office has not become a white hole, a theoretical object that ejects matter from beyond its event horizon, rather than sucking it in. It wouldn't be fun for Dallas to find itself so near a quasar.

Anyone wanting to know a good deal about black holes should read the excellent new book, The Black Hole War, by Leonard Susskind, which has just been released. I'm in the middle of it, and the book's a fascinating tour of modern physics written for the layman. It's just been marvelous so far.

Thanks to Matt B. for the link.

All I gotta say to that is... I feel like cutting the guy's nuts out.

Thats what happens when the black "leaders" of today are nothing but a bunch of hot-button pushers (which is also true for the majority of leaders today reguardless of their color). They killed King in more ways than one.

From IMDB.com:

---
Lucas To Turn Star Wars Films Into 3-D Features

24 July 2008 10:36 AM, PDT

Jeffrey Katzenberg, who is a major advocate of theatrical 3-D films, has disclosed that George Lucas is investing in a technology that could turn all of his Star Wars movies into 3-D features that could be given new releases. Katzenberg told the website ComingSoon.net that he now has the technical resources to begin the conversion process. Previous attempts to turn 2-D movies into 3-D have produced mixed results and reactions -- mostly negative -- but Katzenberg remarked in the interview that Lucas "isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate."
---

So...is there a term for something beyond beating a dead horse? Could we just call that "Pulling a Lucas"? Because i'd like credit for coining the phrase.

Also, what's up with that last quote? Apparently this Katzenberg fellow has never seen, ohhh the entire LAST HALF of the Star Wars series, or this summer's sad attempt at an Indiana Jones movie. Has Lucas himself spearheaded ANYTHING that could be considered "first rate" since 1980?

I use the grey and white scheme also and I see the banners. Theres one on the bottom of this page right now, well not this page (as I am posting) but there is one at the bottom of the monkey bars. I think they are easy to over look. There is one on the main page of AKIA which is hard to miss.

Right now the one at the bottom has four sites with the headlines, "jesus christ loves you" "who was jesus christ" "jesus christ's real story" and "bible ringtones". Not sure where that came from? Maybe Gilgar's sig?
