Do'h... I didn't read the report on Rebelscum.com. That would explain the different packaging... I was wondering about that...

Man, they look even worse now that I know they're 12" figures. When they're small, you can kind of excuse a little slack in detail, but on the 12" scale, that's unacceptable. And the new 12" Luke Jedi looks so bad he's hilarious! <_< I'm scratching my head... why didn't they release this Luke Jedi head sculpt with a good GI-Joe body and different accessories? The head sculpt is so much better that the new Luke isn't even in the same league. It seems like Hasbro is moving backwards...

Apparently with this new Luke they are going for that untapped resource of crossed-eyed Star Wars fans. <_<

But you’re totally right. They had a great head sculpt on the other figure, why not stay with a winner?

It seems like every time we give them a little credit (4 packs) they find a way to take 2 steps back.

What are they thinking now? Boba looks great, but the packaging is brutal!

For probably the first time, I'll have to disagree with you! I think the packaging looks great! From a visual design standpoint there are a few things I'd change because the figure seems to be lost in the design. But I think the design is head and shoulders above pretty much every other design Hasbro and Kenner has done since the inception of POTF2. Frankly, given their previous boring designs, I'm shocked that Hasbro would release this.

It's still not quite as cool as the McFarlane Aliens/Predator Movie Maniacs line, but it's good for Hasbro.

Well I can’t argue that it is vastly different from anything else they have put out. I guess I just dislike it because the figure is lost in the packaging.

I cite my Jango Fett as an example. Because it was packaged so badly I didn’t know how good the figure was. I had no idea that Boba didn’t have to be part of the figure.

I guess I should take comfort in that Hasbro is trying new things. Unfortunately I don’t like what they are trying.

Okay, let's see how many inaccuracies we can find in this Luke Jedi figure:

Luke Jedi (source: GalacticHunter.com)

I found two major, inexcusable flaws:

1) Luke's right hand is the one with the glove, NOT the left.

2) During his throne room rage scene, Luke didn't even have his shirt unfolded to reveal the white underside. Check out the screen shot below, taken from the scene right after Luke chops off Vader's hand, for confirmation. See... no white...

Sigh... seriously, does Hasbro even have quality control with this line?!

I'm not sure if I should e+ or  .

I think it's somewhere in-between. How could Hasbro do something like this?

I thought that there was something weird about this figure, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. And I would have never figured out it was the flap on his shirt.

Or maybe it was the crappy head sculpt.

Hey, as long as there’s still fun I gonna keep going. Even if that means I buy florissant-pink-glow-in-the-dark-pooping Vader.

Hey Veers,
I can make that easy!!!
Ha! Ha! Ha!

Would you like him with or without removeable helmet?
He! He! He!

Okay, I started to rant in the SDCC thread, but I thought it was more appropriate here.

Hasbro Star Wars is officially dead to me. I was checking out the coverage of the Star Wars toys at the San Diego Comic Con, and there was NOTHING worthy of being included in my collection. The two sites that have the best coverage are Sir Steve's Guide and Rebelscum.

None of the 3 3/4" figures are interesting. The Clone Troopers and Droids have all been done before. What's new about putting a bunch of them in a pack? The Jedi are boring because they all wear the same boring friggin' robes. And the "Clone Wars" toys are too Expanded-Universey. The only figure that would actually catch my eye in the store would be the Removable Helmet Vader... and even then I would just examine it to see how it's different from the first, and put it immediately back down.

The 12" figures look unexusably ABSURD. The small figures like the Ewoks and Jawas look like a 12-year-old sculpted them. And Garindan is so horribly bad that I'm surprised that Hasbro would release it because it makes them look like total idiots. Who would be stupid enough to release something that looks like that?!

Unfortunately, I really have nothing positive to say about the Hasbro Star Wars line. RIP...

I just wanted to clear up why I was happy with the 3 packs. It allows kids to build up their armies fairly cheap and fairly quick. These packs are supposed to be about $10, so that's $3.33 a figure. Much better than the current price for Jedi, Battle Droids, and Clone Troopers. Do you know what I mean?

We had talked about this before Nate, and you had said you kind of liked the 3-pack Clone Troopers. You weren't lying to me?

I should add something to my "happiness". I thought it was a good idea for kids, because they could build their armies (which we already talked about). However Hasbro found a way to eff it up. They are putting 2 versions of 3-packs out. One version has a trooper lying down, the other has binoculars. Only making matters worse there are also chase colors. Yellow, green, and blue troopers are mixed into some of the sets.

Damn it Hasbro, just once make something nice AND make it easy to get.

It's difficult concealing my usual hypocrisy on this board because my statements are recorded...

Anyway, sorry about that... I just snapped. I haven't seen new Star Wars stuff in 7 months, and then, I was disappointed by the stuff I saw at SDCC. So I just figuratively threw my hands in the air and said, "Eff it all to hell!" e+

Truthfully, I sway from one side to the other with the Clone Trooper packs. Sometimes I think it's a cool idea, sometimes I think it's super-lame. It's cool in that you can build armies of Clone Troopers in different poses. It's lame in that we already HAVE a couple of clone troopers.

So, yesterday I thought it was super-lame. Today, I'm thinking it might be cool. Tomorrow I'll probably think it's super-lame again. That makes sense, doesn't it? B) But I agree, Hasbro is complicating things, especially with chase colors. So, I'm starting to lean towards the "lame"...

Anyway, I can sound as totalitarian as I want, but deep down, I know I'll still pick up some Star Wars figures occasionally. For example, I definitely have my eyes set on the new Hoth set. But I was disappointed with the stuff from the SDCC because it was pretty much the same ol' crap. If you liked it, that's cool. I can imagine that for collectors who started in the past few years, this stuff is probably great! But I've been collecting since POTF2 first started in 1995 and man... "been there, done that", you know?

What would really get me excited about the line would be something entirely different. Like a nice Jabba's Palace playset/diorama with ROTJ Jabba. Or a nifty Sarlaac playset with bendy tentacles and "victim-eating" action. But instead, they're offering repainted Jedi Starfighters and Luke Jedi version 20. Hm.

Maybe I should migrate towards vintage...

HOLY shizznit! :o

Hasbro finally has a plan for Jedi Master Points.

http://www.rebelscum...cle.asp?i=43971

But why is it such a shizznitty plan? Auctions?! They better put a TON of things for auction up. Plus, how could you really bid? Sure I'll say I have 100,000 points but what if I really don't? I know I don't get the item, but how many people are they going to go through before a person really has the 100,000 points.

Good idea, but I just can't see this working well. Remember the good old days where 4 proofs of purchase and $2.00 S&H got you a figure in the mail? I hate Hasbro.

This auction idea is absurd. The problem is that there are fans who have kept Jedi points for the past 8 years and have thousands of points. Those fans will be able to "buy" stuff with their points, but everyone else can't. Also, the whole fun of using UPCs is for mail-away figures. The auctions will feature rare items, but not mail-aways.

I think the Jedi Points should be completely abandoned. At this point, there's nothing that can realistically be done with them. If Hasbro offers a mail-in figure purchasable with Jedi Points, then they'll be out of business trying to fill all the orders for free figures. If they offer a mail-in figure for Jedi Points and receipts, the Jedi Points are completely unnecessary. More mail-ins would be awesome (and something that would potentially spark some interest for me in the line), but Jedi Points are not the way to go.

But some stuff about the article caught my interest:

Basic figures will be combined into one collection... each wave will have a theme:
...
Wave 3 - Jabba’s Palace
...
Also announced was the introduction of a new assortment at the deluxe price point in 2004. There are seven figures in total, which will only be available in the Spring, and where possible, many of the figures will fit into one of the basic figure themes. Examples include the Wampa and a Jabba the Hutt figure...

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this might mean that the Jabba's Palace wave may interact somehow with the Jabba figure. Maybe each figure will come with some part of a Jabba's Palace diorama. That's probably wishful thinking... but hopefully we'll at least get a good ROTJ Jabba (Jabba Glob was cool, but I'd like something with more detail).

-Nathan

EDIT: I just saw some more figure photos:

http://www.rebelscum...rumpic-718a.jpg
http://www.rebelscum...rumpic-718b.jpg

If you look, you can see some Hoth figures (that I assume will be in a Hoth wave) and the Wampa. I'm shaking my head ruefully at the apparent repaints (Hoth rebel and red Threepio), but that Wampa looks awesome!

I guess there's still a bit of Star Wars left in me... :o

Well, I finally found some new Star Wars figures last weekend. The ones I saw were:

Han Solo Hoth Rescue: This figure was a huge disappointment for me. I wanted to get one so that I could replace the Luke figure that will come in the Hoth TRU set, but this figure just sucks. Compared to the older Han Hoth from the TaunTaun set, the new one looks horrible, especially in the head sculpt.

Chewie Mynock Hunt: I'm a huge Chewie fan so I was really looking forward to this figure. It wasn't necessarily bad, but I passed it up. Although it has a good number of articulated points, it looks like you can pretty much only put it in one pose. Also, that bowcaster looks atrocious. But I might pick one up to go with my Chewie collection.

Wat Tambor: This guy was one of the coolest aliens in AOTC. I call him "Tooth Head" because his head looks like a big green molar. But with no leg articulation, this figure is basically a chess piece.

Darth Vader Throne Room Duel: Nifty... I didn't have any major problems with this figure. Although it's more melodramatic than the first removable helmet Vader, it's a pretty good figure.

Luke Skywalker Throne Room Duel Besides the "glove on the wrong hand" and "shirt open" sculpt errors, I didn't think this figure was all that bad... in the store. When I saw this pic, though, I thank God I didn't pick one up.

Princess Leia Imperial Captive: A rerelease. Nothing new here... skip it.

Han Solo Flight to Alderaan: Another rerelease. I thought that the paint application on this figure was actually worse than the previous version. Skip it.

Darth Maul Theed Hanger Duel: This figure was just a rerelease as well... but I believe it was from the Masters of the Dark Side set which was a pain to get, so this rerelease is probably great for collectors. Personally, I'm sick of seeing Darth Maul figures. Really, is this figure any different from the dozen or so other Darth Maul sculpts that have been clogging the shelves for years?

Boba Fett Pit of Carkoon: Even though this is essentially the same figure as 300th Boba Fett, it's probably the coolest figure of the bunch. I like the rocket pack effect.

Also, I thought the new packaging looked nice, especially the card backs. But the figures just didn't wow me enough to impulse-purchase them. I might pick up a Vader, Chewie, and Boba on clearance, though. Here's hoping Hasbro goes "all-out" for the Jabba playset...

You know, this is probably the LONGEST running thread on the whole board....

BTW, that Boba Fett is sweet! He is one of only a handful of SW figures I decided to leave carded.

Veers, I committed sacrilege and opened about 30 figures for my SW display last week. Hahaha!

Nate, you pretty much right on. That Wat Tambor is the best figure they’ve released in a LONG time. I love the stand it comes with, and it just looks great. And even though he doesn’t have any leg articulation I can let that slide. We only saw him standing and sitting in the movie, so the fact that he is stuck standing is ok with me.

And although you weren’t too thrilled with most of the figures, I’m kind of happy with the figures currently available. Because the are somewhat basic they allow kids to actually buy some heroes and villains. I think that there should have been a Stormtrooper with this wave of figures.

I like the new packaging too, not a huge difference but certainly an improvement.

And while I keep most of the new stuff carded, I think it's perfectly fine to open. Now if you said you opened 30 Vintage figures that were MOC.

I'm pretty disappointed that we didn't see more, especially since a lot of the Clone Wars toys were just repaints of previous toys. Just what we need... a teal-colored Jedi Starfighter...

Well Nate I've got a nice rumor for you, which should lift your 'Clone Wars' hopes.

Galactichunter.com has said:

Our Galactic spies have confirmed that Hasbro is, in fact, developing a line of Clone Wars figures based on the animated series. The figures will be sculpted in the style of the Cartoon Network's upcoming Clone Wars cartoon shorts, they will be sculpted in the 3 3/4" scale that is the standard for Star Wars figures, and they will be packaged on new cards based on the animated series. We will have more on this line of toys as it develops.

Very cool...maybe. B)

Exactly. Truthfully , it sounds like fanboy wishful thinking to me since nothing definite, not even the source, is given. Also, it doesn't make much sense for Hasbro to invest so much in the Clone Wars line and then suddenly shift styles so dramatically. Basically, we'll end up having "real" and "cartoon" versions of each main character. Very weird. B)

But then again, Hasbro rarely makes much sense...

Actually, I think it would be awesome having an animated and a realistic version of certain characters like Yoda or Kit Fisto. But will Hasbro resculpt the vehicles in an animated style? Probably not... so won't the figures look funky in the vehicles? Weird.

Anyway, back to the Jedi Points discussion... it seems some collectors have finally found a good use for the Jedi Points:

Ebay Jedi Points Auctions

I think this is a great idea. Realistically, how many collectors are actually going to win the Hasbro auctions? And this is probably the last chance we'll get to use the Jedi Points. So at least these sellers are getting something for their points.
