I liked Lion Cross, but the painjob looked a bit too shiny and plastic-y to me.
And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

Besides aren't muscles usually a single color, and preferably NOT dirty.
Lionator has a great concept, mixing both leaders of the battle beasts in one figure,
nice attempt for a storyline too, but lacks in quality paintwork.
"Pirate" Pirate Lion has a concept, I was, or maybe still am, going to attempt myself
one of these days... Not all that original, but still a very cool idea,
also a pretty good paintjob.
Lion Cross has a cool concept, but looks a slight bit too modern,
and also as I said before, musclebeasts should be single color... imo t.i.

Dragon Armor Leo, now this is definitely one of the major contenders!
Great concept, fabulous customisation and a VERY GOOD paintjob!
Also great extra accessories!!
One of a couple of figures here, I would like to see someone make a cast of...
Griffen Leo has a great concept, but seems just a little too quickly done,
with some more time into it, definitely could be a winner!
I really love this figure though, and probably would buy it, if I had the chance...
LRG Lion looks like a tough bastich and is quite funny actually...

Metallic Leo has a decent paintjob, but fails to score big on concept.
Hunter Lion is absolutely a contender too,
fabulous paintjob, very recognisable style though...

A cool concept indeed... and nice weaponry to boot!
Plus I gotta say, I just LOVE this guy's tail!
King Leo, the First should be in a different competition,
one for ARTICULATED figures

Well, it does score great in execution, but looks a little like a 'queen' lion,
instead of a KING, absolutely no offence dude, because I love the figure,
and may still vote for it!
CTHULHU: THAT ONCE WAS PIRATE LION
another very serious contender IMO, but the concept just isn't a lion anymore...
which is a slight minor for me. Fantastic peace of work though!
With a very nice paintjob too!
Fight Club Lion, is just not my style,
you see, I hate VERY BLOODY figures...
But it is a well done custom if you like this sort of thing.
Good efforts all around everyone,
kinda makes me wish I had organised ( and received

So, who will I vote for, well, no-one yet,
I am still not sure what I will give priority:
paintjob, custom parts, accessories, originality, story line,
playability, favorite artist, comical value

... yes this is a tough contest indeed...

Buffalo Leo – My assumption is that this is a combination of the Lion and Terri-bull. If this was the plan, then I love it – if it was not, then I am really confused. At any rate, I will stick to my assumption. I think it was pretty daring (and difficult) to choose the Flesh color MUSCLE to combine with a Battle Beast. I think this led to the definition problem. I assume the dirt was to add depth and or some detail, unfortunately I think it makes the figure looked rushed instead of played-with or realistically dirty. I should also add that I really love the overall sculpting of the head and horns.
Lionator – First, I really like the colors. From what I have seen BBs make a lot of odd color choices. This would have been a great color scheme for the actual toy line. There is just one thing working against this figure - the hair color. While I like the overall colors, the hair color just seems out of place. It exposes a really weak head/hair sculpt, probably the biggest problem with the Lion figure. In a simple repainting contest this might have won, but with so many other choices this figure does not get my vote.
“Pirate” Pirate Lion – There are four main things I like about this figure: (1) the hook; (2) the peg leg; (3) the hair coloring; and (4) the water emblem. Unfortunately the figure ends up looking messing on the yellow spots. However this figure was painted it makes the armor, hook, and peg leg look good. It does not make the yellow section look good. They seem sloppily out of place next to everything else on this figure. Specifically my eye is drawn to the figures right leg. The toe area seems sloppy and the thigh looks to be accidentally painted with red, instead of splattered with blood – which I figure was the goal.
Lion Cross – The name for this figure threw me off. I thought it was supposed to be a Minotaur, but I see the name is Lion Cross. Is it supposed to be like Satan Cross? I have to deduct a couple of points just out of confusion. If it was supposed to be SC, then he should have had, at least, a sword and shield. Focusing back on the figure, I really like the idea. The hind legs actually look pretty nice. It looks a little sloppy where the second legs meet the butt, but not terribly sloppy. Frankly this figure suffers from a dull color scheme and too shiny of a paint job. The horns and toes look like they are wearing gray nail polish. I think a cream or dirty white would look great here. This figure could borrow some of the dirt from Buffalo Leo.
Dragon Armor Leo – How do I start? Wow? Dear God? This figure is simply beautiful. I love the orange, blue, and green together. Plus the fine detailing that makes the armor look so great. And the overall design of the armor is fantastic. I simply could not heap enough praise on this figure. It is a contender even without the weapons and base.
Griffin Leo – For me, this is a case of less being more. With the addition of some nice looking wings and a beak the figure is really upgraded. Those additions actually make the hair/mane look like a strange combination of hair and feathers (at least to me). This figure has a simple elegance.
LRG Lion – This figure addresses the biggest issue I have with the Lion figure, his hair. The choices after that were not really my favorite choices. The figure ended up much too dark. By making a LRG figure it gives it a concept piece feel. It would have been nice to see some more clearly LRG inspired aspects. Based on recent events, maybe dirty cash filled hands?
Metallic Leo – I love the daring choice of color. I wish more painted figures were done with less traditional colors. And the quality of the paint job is really wonderful too. The detailing to the hair, eye, and face are really fantastic. To be completely honest, this figure almost got my vote on non-traditional colors alone. Any other year this figure would have won.
Hunter Lion – If I praise paint schemes and colors, then I would be a fool not to heap mountains of praise on this figure. It strikes me as a more traditional color scheme, but in slightly less traditional shades. While all of the adornments are fantastic, the detailing done with simply paint could have won the contest for this figure. I usually shutter when “tribal” painting is done to a figure. It almost always feels forced, poorly done, and/or cheesy – this has none of that.
King Leo The First – I want to say this as gently as possible, because I love the concept and applaud the effort. I hope other artists get inspired to try these types of outside-the-box efforts (pardon the exhausted cliché). Unfortunately this is an awkward figure and worse yet I am unable to articulate exactly why I feel this way. The head seems to work for me but everything else seems off. Truly this could be a simple case of choosing the wrong articulated base. The entire torso region just seems odd. The underwear(?) seems to a red lion penis emerging and the shoulder armor seems more like a tiny vest. Like I said, I really appreciate the idea and effort. Honestly I think it is the most daring choice in the contest, but it just did not come together for me.
Cthulhu – Again, this is a wow figure. Great idea, great execution, just simply a great custom. I think everyone can see why this is a wonderful figure. I will tell you the one petty reason I will not be voting for it. It is not a Lion. I really like to see how the Lion figure can be modified. This could have been almost any BB. While other entries because other animals or figure they still retained a clearly Lion core.
Fight Club Lion – Clever idea, but a little tough to see in the pictures. I liked that there are accessories to this piece, but there really is not enough change to push this figure to the top.
So who gets my vote? In the end it was really between two figures: Hunter Lion and Dragon Armor Leo. With my vote going to Dragon Armor Leo.
I felt it had the most craftsmanship, beautiful colors, great sculpting, and was still clearly the Lion figure.
Congratulations again to everyone!!

I liked Metallic, it was a simple repaint, but it was well done. Sort of reminded me of Captain Power.

I like Dragon Armor alot too, Great color choice, and nice sculpting going on here. Plenty of details as well. My favorite class in Final Fantasy Tactics was the Lancer, and that's what this reminded me of.
I really like the Hunter as well! Great details, and the face body paint sticks out like I believe it should. Great sculpting, and paint apps.
I think I'm going to have to go with the Hunter. I just like him, not too little going on, but not too much going on either. Great figures!

3. Fightclub Leo-I smiled when I saw this one, kind of an odd piece but I appreciated it.
2. Hunter Leo-A real professional effort, awesome looking, every detail seems thought out
and the vote getter
1. Chthulhu Leo- I realize this isn't a lion anymore but I just liked him the best so I didn't feel right giving my vote to somebody else.
A great combination of creativety and execution.

they arent really negitive, nor do i care at all. I know they are just donkey's personal opinion or whatever, but those damn lions take a little bit of time and effort to complete. i think i could have done a better job with my idea if i had more time, but it is always nice to hear good things.

I don't think those are negative at all and all of his notes had good things too. I read DK's post (and mine) as constructive criticism and rationale while those figures didn't get his vote.they arent really negitive, nor do i care at all. I know they are just donkey's personal opinion or whatever, but those damn lions take a little bit of time and effort to complete. i think i could have done a better job with my idea if i had more time, but it is always nice to hear good things.
I don't know about DK, but I feel that people take all that time to make the figures – the least I can do is give some honest, hopefully constructive, feedback to all of the participants.

I also just noticed that currently Metallic Leo does not have any votes. Had I realized that sooner I would have voted for him on principal. That really is a great figure. To whoever made that figure, I offer a second congratulations. It really is an awesome figure!!
Hey, I had this idea...
Howabout, when this contest is closed,
just for honors sake,
we do a vote for best loosing entry?
Under the current conditions,
I would exclude the top 4 vote getters from this contest,
because, let's face it, they are in a league of their own...
That a way, the people -yes even DK-
who spent a lot of time and effort on their custom,
would actually at least get 1 vote!
And if then I still don't get a vote for my idea,
I am coming after every single one of you...
UNARMED!

DK

i dont care if i get zero vote, i had fun doing my one, only took me half hour ne way
Well, based on efforts, you should get zero votes then,
I spent several evenings on mine!
Kitbashing was quick, but painting...
Try 3 basecoats, 2 finishing coats and a clean-up.

And I am sure a lot of the other entry's took a load of time to do as well!!
DK, who never had painted battlebeasts in more than one single color before...
PS I DO want a vote, please SOMEONE vote for me...
