Sweet! I could've sworn he sang "Jet Hurricane", so I was really confused about what they meant by that. Gentle Hurricane makes a lot more sense.

I have a question about your translation of Mukan no Teioh, though; specifically, these lines:
"Perfect wa Chikara
Perfect wa Tsuyosa
Perfect koso shinjitsu"

Now, my knowledge of Japanese is rather limited and mostly pieced together (probably nowhere near yours), but looking at these lines... Perfect koso shinjitsu, "koso", to my understanding, emphasizes the subject before it. Shinjitsu is in noun form of "faith", right? So wouldn't it be something like "PERFECT faith"? Or would it be more like "perfection (is) (the) truth"?

I'm not questioning your translations, I'm just curious about the logic behind the grammar.

Hm... Thinking a bit about it, I might just be confusing grammatical rules.

Apologies to those who actually liked or appreciated my translations and didn't take them for granted, but I am sick of being the one to do work, and then get asked things like "Hey, you're a thief, right?" or "I hear you stole Kinnikuman_Muscle's work".

Yes, indeed you are correct that "koso" is an emrocic word that emphasises the preceding word. It's pretty hard to explain why I used "Perfect is the perfect truth", but the thing is, the way you put it can be used. I just tend to use the word again, to emphasise. A bit like saying "It was I- I! - who did this", or something like that. It would be more literally something like "Perfect truth", but I wanted to extend the line a little and also show the emphasis on perfection the song was giving. Another example of my writing style to show the "koso" emphasis is in the Dragonball Z song "Aitsu wa Son Gokuu" ("This Guy is Son Gokuu"). The line "Omae koso ga hero" I render as "It is you, who is our hero", as this provides some syntactical emphasis (otherwise known as use of foregrounding) on the word "you", emphasised by "koso" in the Japanese.

So, yes, I was finding it a little hard to explain. However, I can assure you that "shinjitsu" is actually "truth" in this case. The way you're getting "faith" from the word "shinjitsu" stems from different kanji. In the song "Mukan no Teiou", the kanji is "真実", whereas the kanji for the word you've translated is "信実" which can be read as "faithfulness" at least. Technically both words can be read as "truth", but rather, one means "truth" as in an undeniable truth, a fact, or reality (真実), whereas the other means "truth" as in a genuine quality, faithfulness, honesty, integrity. (信実)

I hope at least my second point was helpful, though the first was a garbled mess that I can't really put into real words. And don't worry, I don't take offence at all. You're a lot more polite about it, and more broad-minded about it than a comment I had today from someone who not only didn't realise I was talking about Japanese grammar and translation, but insisted that I was a hypocritical grammar Nazi, who didn't know what they were talking about. (Insisting that I don't know that the word "attack" can be a noun, when I was saying that the Japanese word "osou" was the verb, instead of the noun, and also saying that I was confused, in a condescending manner.)

At least you were just being curious, which is rarely that bad a thing, and you were polite. That's usually all I ask of people, if they have questions.

Shin (and its derivations) is one of the more annoying words in Japanese, as it can mean True, God, New, Heart, Faith, and a few more obscure meanings, depending on the kanji. Speaking of Kanji... *Boots up Mnemosyne*

Ah, I was a bit confused by "sore yuke", as I didn't have the kanji on hand, I had the selection between "To die" and "to go", and basically guessed from there. I think my initial guess was something like "go at it", though.

Tsk, should've guessed "poozu", but hey, that's what one gets for not knowing which is hiragana/kanji and which is katakana.


Basically, I used Wikipedia's "Japanese particles" and "Japanese verb conjugations" articles to guess the base forms, tempuses, and what the verbs pointed at.

Hm, I took a look at Drax's translation of Idai na Tamashii, and while it gets the idea across, it seems that a lot of it oversimplifications or plain guesses of the actual meanings. While I'm no good at Japanese grammar, it's quite easy to tell just by looking at the words, so I thought I'd make the very bold move of giving that one a shot too.

****Literally, it would be "The miracle technique is Muscle Docking", poetically emitting the "is" verb, but that just sounds odd.

Whew. I think I got this one down pretty well, to be honest, but damn, getting the conjugations right isn't easy! I'd be glad if you would comment a bit on it, Kenni, because it really helps since you're so knowledgable about the language.

Well, the problem may be coming to a close soon, with my next few life decisions. But in the mean-time, you can use my "Idai na Tamashii". Without trying to affect an air of superiority, my translation's somewhat more accurate than Tubba-san's. Not a big ego at work, here, just it's true. ^^;;

I can translate just about anything with enough time as long as I have a script, but I'm not really that good at Japanese (hardly fluent), and it would take me a very, very long time to translate a single episode of an anime, and the result would most likely have inaccuracies.

I'll take a look at the song you posted, it's always good with some excercise.
