Oh and BTW: in honor of finishing Kinnikuman, I ended up trying gyuudon at a place downtown tonight for the first time (at an actual Japanese restaurant, not just some place that sells sushi)...and it turned out really good. Tasted like BBQ beef on rice with a bit of seasoning and some kimchi mixed in.

Exactly how I was thinking. They also had Bi-bim-bab there...maybe for next time.

before phoenix got powered up by the gods (again) he was beaten by Suguru and Neptuneman. Withouth them he couldn't had been able to show kamehame to omegaman and so.Not really, he won due to the 52 Submissions. If not for them, Phoenix would've just toyed around with him.

The weird thing is Phoenix sort of lost a few times through the tourney but kept getting away somehow or another:
-Ataru's Napalm Stretch (which would have killed him if Mammothman didn't used the Big Nose Fan)
-Ataru preparing the Brain Buster prior to the whole "Prophecy page in the torch" scenario
-Possibly the Ataru-Style Muscle Spark...but Ataru was being erased at that point so it was weaker.
-The Rainbow Bridge Suplex
The Rainbow Bridge one is sort of hard to say considering we don't know if Phoenix still had power in himself to get back up before the Gods gave him the offer to have all their power. He may have considering the God of Intelligence but considering he still had power reserve after the Gods finally left him to handle the invading Idols, it's tough to really say.

Phoenix is kind of... Tough to say. I mean, he doesn't have a shadow of a chance against Ataru, that's for sure. However, he easily counters Kinnikuman's simplistic approach to the academic arts of Chojin wrestling... It appears that the other 4 evil gods join him to revive him... And by the end, he's entirely possessed by the God of Intelligence, allowing him to fully utilize the 100 million power, maybe? I mean, it's not as if the enemy was ever REALLY Phoenix, it was the God of Intelligence, and Suguru's body was in really bad shape due to not only having to fight three consecutive fights but also having to use powerful moves like the Muscle Spark without his KKC.
You know, it struck me, Suguru chose to revive the super-jerk Phoenix... But why not the "nice guy being used by the gods" Big Body? Weird.

That's the problem with this series: Suguru always bonds with one villain in particular through battle per arc. Considering that Phoenixman was just a naive kid who had mental problems and was being utterly screwed by a god who pretty much obeyed him for his own nefarious schemes, Suguru probably felt the most pity for him. (though strangely it was Phoenixman, Powerfulman and George who were screwed somehow or another leading to their mental state matching with the appropriate God...Strongman was just an innocent being used and Soldierman...was probably whom was left)

True story.
One thing I really felt the anime version of the final episode did better was the lines, the add a couple before the Muscle Spark:
"AI TO... YUUJOU TO... SEIGI NO... NANASENMAN PAWAA MASSURU SUPAAAAAAAAAAAAAKU!"
"Of love, friendship and justice - 70 million power MUSCLE SPAAAAAARK!"
Of course, Akira Kamiya makes it all the better.
Have some HD version. It's actually fairly well-animated (except Kinnikuman suddenly goes super deformed while delivering the Ataru variant... Oh well...)

I dreamt that I was Kinnikuman and had to fight some monster version of Prince Kamehame in a ring tonight. I had to constantly use the 52 submissions to get out of various grips. I recall frequently using the Kinniku Buster as well.

That's sort of why I made a reference to "search for the final episode" in the final script. Toei had five years since the chapter was done (final chapter = 1987; final ep of the Throne: 1992) so they had enough time to actually get that right...even if they still screwed up other things (anything with Bibimba, not doing Ashuraman/Satan Cross, somehow tying Phoenix's power to Choujin Enma...having not seen the whole series but that one ep so far, I don't know how the heck that happened)

I have to say the 70 million power muscle spark was animated quite well, however. I do like the way they flash the limbs locking Phoenix, even if the background felt a bit random... And the impact to the canvas makes no sense either (Phoenix hits the canvas with his chest bone... and then a small Toeisplosion... and then he's lying on the back of his head...)
If I'm to take a shot at how the Enma got involved... The God of Intelligence got screwed by the rainbow bridge suplex, and once Omegaman was defeated the Enma possessed Phoenix.

Still seems stupid to me but could probably explain why he turned purple. The Choujin Enma according to the manga seemed just like a judge of the dead (akin to, say, the Enma of other manga like YYH) so to have him suddenly "be evil and turn Phoenix purple probably to reclaim Neptuneman and Suguru in place of Omegaman...yeesh.

Somehow I sort of wished there was a one-shot not just explaining Ataru more and if he and the God of Brutality made some sort of pact regarding what happened (including the Mixer Taitei incident and his Sony camcorder...and maybe if he and The Ninja had an alliance prior that we didn't know about) cause as it stands it just still doesn't make sense.

Watch what you say, Ataru, do you REALLY want any more Yude retcons and "explanations"?
Sometimes they work, sometimes...yeah, I get you.
Well I was going to wait until Thursday (what being Suguru's B-day and all), but it's done and I want to sort of forget about it so...may I now present the 2008 one-shot: Kinnikuman's Wedding (the name according to Vol. 37):
