I think the concept behind Kickstarter is that it is a social network for creators and their potential customers to see how much or little interest there is in their product before any money is paid or spent. Sometimes interest begits interest which is cool too. Once interested parties see that there are dozens/hundreds of other people also interested and willing to pay for an as-yet unproduced product they are more likely to pay when the time comes.

As far as one or even ten people dropping out, ideally the success of a large project won't hinge on whether 1-10 people can actually pay when the time comes. That's not to say that it doesn't stink for this particular project, but it also doesn't mean that this is a flaw in KS's system. I don't think it is.

I'm 95% certain that when OMFG! Reached their funding goal date I got an email from Amazon asking me to confirm payment. I'll check my email archive. Brb.

One week from today ROTB will have received $10,800 in pledges only to barely fail. :angry2:

No one wants to see that happen.

I don't think that will happen. I'm sure if we are that close, people will either up their pledges to cover the difference or those who have been on the fence will finally pledge.

No request for authorization; payment goes through on end date if pledge goal is reached. (And importantly if the money is in the account!) I got a confirmation email from both KS and Amazon.

However, I recall people familiar with KS saying that something like X% of pledges never come in, so just cause you reach your goal doesn't mean youre in the clear. (Sorry, I'm not trying to be a negative nacy.)

Anyhow, I still would rather people cancel their pledge so everone knows than have them simply fail to pay when the time comes and have it be a huge shock and disappointment. As JK says, shit happens. Also, people are notoriously bad at planning for the future. :D

As JK says, shit happens. Also, people are notoriously bad at planning for the future. :D

Count me in that group. I didn't pledge then back out, but I've been waiting on pledging at the $30 level to make sure I would have the money for this, and I don't. I don't put this kind of stuff on credit cards. If I don't have it in my checking, then I have to pass.

The unfortunate thing about the 3/14 end date is I think most people get paid on the 15th and last day of the month (like me), or every other Friday. I knew as soon as I saw the end date that I wasn't likely to have $30 toy spending money left on the day before payday.

Me too. I'm right at my limit with the funding deadline ending on rent week though. I have just put out a shout in the UK sightings thread at Seibertron, see if there's any interest there. There has been a thread over there for a little while, but it's in the nonTF toys section which doesn't get a lot of traffic.

I've got a few friends whom I'll brow beat into backing it as well. :wallbash:

NICE!

So how does this work now? If people back out while other people are paying and we dip back below the goal (which seems unlikely as we're $560 above goal) does that mean people can pay and we can still end up not reaching the goal? Or do people only have till Wed. to back out? Let's try not to back out people!

I do wish I had been able to back the project as well, and was feeling bad about that because I was concerned you guys wouldn't make it to 11k. I'm thrilled to see that wasn't the case after all! Very happy you guys seem to be in the clear and might even reach your new 14k goal!
