Not only does the figure look like a custom, but the little picture looks like it has been photoshopped by a child. Why wouldn’t they at least use the image from the movie? Oh, that’s right. You only see Han’s eyes, and it’s just for a second.

My point is, why make a figure of a costume change that was onscreen for all of five seconds on a flickering black-and-white monitor? Are you going to need to recreate that scene? I think a piece of cardboard would suffice. Maybe that's why they didn't use the picture from the movie. They knew people would just rip it off the box and leave the figure on the peg. Seriously, I saw the movie when it came out in 1983 and I never knew that was Han. I never bothered to stop and question who the AT-ST driver was, which I'd like to think is a testimony to how involving the movie is. Or maybe it was just so utterly forgetable that I didn't bother storing it in my memory for fear of overwriting that section of my brain devoted to Streethawk and Automan.
I guess you could make your own deleted scene that adds some continuity to the film so that you know it's Han that magically changes his outfit in the blink of an eye. Either that or they've simply run out of figures to make. What's next, characters that weren't seen, only heard? Like whoever Han talks to through the intercom in Star Wars? Or maybe characters only refered to, like the bounty hunter he ran into that prompted him to leave Hoth as soon as possible. Or the many Bothans that died to bring the new Death Star info. I don't even know why they bother making single figures anymore. They might as well just release boxed sets of every figure from a scene. It's not like somebody wants the General Jan Dodonna figure and nothing else. So few people want these background extras and costume changes that Hasbro would do better to package them with really popular figures and force people to buy them.
I'd rather have an action figure of the WALL the MONITOR was on.

what's rectangular, grey on one side and green on the other and features pictures of dead presidents (mostly)?
Other than that it is pointless... unless Geore is going to make another superspecial edition trillogy with 5 seconds of new footage....

Incidentally, what is up with the recent C3PO and R3PO figures? Why are their legs so damn short? They look like vintage figures they're so bad.

While the figures don’t blow my mind (they’re re-releases), the cups are pretty cool (although they are plastic). I think this is a really fun concept, which will hopefully be readily available. They’re great for kids because you get a cool glass and a toy, and they’re great for collectors because of the packaging and nostalgia value.
They are a little pricey at $10 each, but it’s a little easier to accept when you figure $4 for the figure, $4 for the glass, and $2 for the “display unit”.
I hope they release an Ep. III glass and figure when the movie comes out next summer.
You can take a look at them here.

I agree, in a way. The sculpt and articulation actually doesn't look that bad, so from a technical standpoint it's not really all that bad a figure. But I think it's the stupidest concept for a Star Wars figure ever. I really can't think another figure that was as scene-specific and as entirely worthless as this one. That has got to be the all-time stupidest Star Wars figure I've ever seen.
I think that army-builders will eat this figure up, though. He might be a stupid Han, but his removable helmet would make this figure a great candidate for customization. But this is yet another reason that the Star Wars collecting community as a whole doesn't reflect my interests.
The photo on the card is friggin' hilarious it's so bad! I could do stuff better than that after my first year of fiddling with Photoshop.

Hm. That's a bit disappointing. I think the cups are cool, but I don't really have much of a reason to pick them up. The Obi-Wan and Darth Maul figures are ancient. Galactic Hunter didn't have pics of the others, but I think I saw a picture of the figure that comes with the Luke cup somewhere, and it was the same Luke Snowspeeder pilot from the beginning of the POTF2 era. While the figures don’t blow my mind (they’re re-releases), the cups are pretty cool (although they are plastic).
If the figures were rehashes that were more interesting, I might be more eager.

Have you seen these? http://www.starwars....ws20040415.html
I think they look really cool, especially Obi-Wan! I can’t wait to see the ARC Trooper too. I normally don’t pick this kind of stuff up, but I might have to make an exception.
Are Gentle Giant items usually around $50, or are these the really expensive statues? I hoping they are in the $50 range. shizznit, I hope they are less than that but I doubt it.
I wish Hasbro would get off their arse and make Obi-Wan and Padme as figure, I just can’t get over how good they look.

The $50 to $80 price tag seems about right. I'm not sure how much maquettes usually cost, but I know that they're usually insanely expensive. Besides, the prices for the mini-busts are about right (maybe $5 over-priced), so I suspect the maquette prices are probably standard.
I'd like Hasbro to make those figures too, but I doubt the animated Clone Wars line will be back, at least for a while. This year, Hasbro seems to be concentrating on OT product with the release of the DVDs. Also, I'm not sure the Clone Wars figures were popular enough to warrant the production of another wave. They seemed pretty common despite the limited numbers produced.
On a similar note, I think the Star Wars Bust-Ups look fun! They're about $5 each, so they're affordable even for me. I just hope that when they're released, the packaging shows which character is inside. None of that stupid "mystery chase" stuff for me.

Han, Luke, and Leia don't do too much for me. Although I do like the medals as a "base".

I think these little guys are awesome! I didn't collect the previous line because I had to buy a bunch of extra vehicles and stuff to get the figures. Now that the figures are sold separately, I can start getting more of them.
Many of the figures in these waves are just rereleases of the previous figures, which is cool because I missed out on pretty much all of them except Chewie. Of the new figures, I like the Yoda/Clonetrooper and especially the bounty hunters. Finally... something to get me interested in Star Wars again!

I also believe that these figures, while targeted towards preschoolers, are actually targeted at collectors. I know that Kenner had some plans for similar figures, but these feel more “anime”. I think saying they were for kids allowed the creators to have more freedom. I don’t think GL would have liked his beloved characters to show up, in the US, in such a radical fashion. It also doesn’t hurt that all of the bounty hunters are coming out. Those characters have a few seconds of screen time. I don’t think preschoolers are crying that they can’t play with their older brother’s IG-88.
My main hope is that they release enough of these. I think they are going to be quite popular.

• Captain Tarpals and a Kaadu
• Naboo Royal Guard
• Gungan Warrior
• Battle Droid
I can’t wait to see this in the fall.
And Rokk, I’m not crazy for the Kubricks but I think they are pretty cool. My favorites are the bounty hunters. I’d smash in MIWP’s teeth again for a set.

This set is strange. Hasbro has been avoiding Episode 1 product for the past few years, especially anything related to Gungans. I'm glad to see the set because I'd like to pick up some Gungans. It's just odd that Hasbro would do this. With this Naboo set you get real army builders and a few accessories.
• Captain Tarpals and a Kaadu
• Naboo Royal Guard
• Gungan Warrior
• Battle Droid
Instead of messing around with old Phantom Menace stuff, I think Hasbro should release a Geonosian battle set with a few different-colored Clone Troopers (based on the super-articulated Clone Trooper mold), a super Battle Droid, and a Spider Droid. That would be perfect for army builders, and it would give all of us a chance to get the super-articulated Clone Trooper.
I think Kubricks are... okay. They're kind of neat, but way too expensive. Also, I'm not a big fan of the blocky Lego-type figures because I don't like the fact that many of the details are just painted-on.

I think you're thinking of B'Omarr Monk, who is often referred to as "Spider Droid". To the best of my knowledge, the AOTC Spider Droid has only been released as a deluxe toy with no figure pack-ins.I don't know what super articulated Clone Trooper you're talking about, but they do already have a spider droid packed with another figure. It's either a regular Clone Trooper or a new kind. And they have a set with a battle droid, a super battle droid, and a droideka. Go to TRU, dude.
The droid 3-pack was released during the Clone Wars line. Clone Wars had plenty of multi-packs, but distribution was bad and the packs weren't particularly impressive. The droid 3-pack contained figures we've seen dozens of times before. The Clone Trooper army was pre-posed and had little to no useful articulation.
I'm just saying that a multi-pack with some SA Clonetroopers, maybe one Super Battle Droid for cannon fodder and a cool deluxe toy like the Spider Droid would be a great seller. Most collectors missed out on the SA Clonetrooper, which is reportedly one of the best SW figures to date and perfect for army building.
I think these multi-packs would sell much better if Hasbro would concentrate on providing figures that were very difficult to find in their first release, like the SA Clonetrooper. Hell, I'd definitely buy a Jabba's Palace pack with Ree Yees, Ephont Mon, and Pote Snitkin.

Hopefully it is true. I’ve always liked this logo. In fact through high school and college the ESB patch with a similar logo was on my backpack. Hell, I still have that backpack.
At any rate, I hope the toys use this theme. Unfortunately this only raises my hopes so that GL can crush them later.
Edit: The patch looks like this.
