Hello,

How many of you have used the Battle Beasts toy line as miniatures for RPGs?

As an avid RPG player, I discovered through internet research (someone mentioned this in a comment on a forum, not sure where) that Battle Beasts are perfect miniatures for RPGs that use anthropomorphic animals (such as TMNT/ After the Bomb by Palladium Books).

To set the stage, when I first discovered Battle Beasts I was 13 or 14 years old. I thought I was 'too old' for these toys at the time, but still owned one or two back in the day. I've been playing RPGs since before Battle Beasts were released. I never conceptualized the perfect union of this amazing toy line with RPGs until now (mind blown).

I plan on using the origin story of Battle Beasts in my next campaign as an awesome backdrop.

What sort of ideas have people come up with for a story if Battle Beasts were used to represent characters in an RPG?

Hi Robeast, first of all welcome to LRG, I hope you´re having a fun time scrolling and reading through all the various topics you probably have bumped into by now. As far as RPG goes I´m not very familiar with that so there are probably other members out here who´re able to give you some more/better advise but when you´re looking for anthropomorphic animals I can´t really think of a better line than Battle Beasts because these are spot on ;)

As you might´ve found out by now there are various (original) Battle Beasts stories that might inspire you. The original, and only, Battle Beasts TV Episode; Rebellion on Planet Beasts (Episode 5 of the Transformers The Headmaster Series (July 1987)) (https://beastformers...beast-ビースト星の反乱/

) might be a nice reference but there are also the various BB comics that might give you some ideas. Out here, if you use the search option, you´ll see that over the years some previous BB collectors have been very original as well in creating their own storyline or addressed certain characters to the various figures. It´s a cool line and that´s mainly because when it comes to RPG I think you can literally start with a blank page and create your own storyline over and over again with these fellows.

If you´re a TF fan the original Autobots vs Decepticons idea might be a nice starting point as well;

Whatever you decide to do have fun and Enjoy the Beasts!

I used to play a sort of gladiator/memory game with my youngest niece.  After divvying up the beasts and weapons, we each choose a beast to pit against each other.  On turn, your beast is concealed, then using the imagined voice for our beast, we ask memory questions regarding the concealed beast (numbers on the figures, colors, ect.).  Depending on how long we want the game to last, a failed memory equals imprisonment or death.

As far as dice go, pulling stats together and teaching people how to play tends to take awhile.  As Beastformers said, the various Battle Beast media would make a good outline, especially if you have the figures from the tv episode and/or comics.  WhiteLeo translated cardbacks for Laser Beasts that featured RPG elements, and the SD beast packaging includes instructions for an RPG.  http://www.littlerub...hl=translations

Welcome to LRG Robeast.  Oh, and a quick question, what do you mean by campaign?

Hi Beastformers, thank you kindly for the warm welcome! Although I've rekindled my love for Battle Beasts, I am still relatively new to the series and collecting (I have 6 Battle Beasts so far, with 2 more on the way). I've seen the Transformers Headmasters Episode 5 (more than once!), but thanks for the suggestion!

My plan as a Dungeon Master (or in this case, Game Master) is to introduce my friends, the player-characters to Planet Beast AKA Animatros, via a wormhole. It's in a secret location on Earth that teleports whatever enters the wormhole to Planet Beast. The player-characters are already playing animal mutants so the transition of worlds with (hopefully) be smooth sailing. Combat will be played out on 1 1/2" graph paper; i.e. 'gaming paper' with the Battle Beast toys representing the players and non-player characters.

Thanks for the links, Beastformers! I will definitely be reading the last one you provided, regarding Autobots vs. Decepticons, at my earliest convienience (in an hour or two). :)

By the way, I love the Beastformers blog you have going! There's so much info on there I have yet to unveil!

Hello butterbeaster, Sounds like an interesting arena/memory game you've created! A clever way to play a memory game, for sure! I'm also sure there are many 'takes' on what kinds of games could be played using Battle Beasts.

Sorry, I'm not sure if I explained well enough that I'm talking about a specific pen and paper, old school roleplaying game, using Battle Beasts as miniatures to represent the players on the tabletop. I plan on using the rules from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / After the Bomb since the player-characters from that game are basically talking animals with hands, walking upright, etc. What I meant by a campaign is a series of linked RPG sessions, in a continual story / setting. I'm using some of the story from the Headmasters episode 5 as a history and setting of where the characters end up in the universe.

Thanks for the welcome, butterbeaster! Also, thanks for the info about an existing RPG using Laser Beasts, I was unaware of that. I assumed it was a dice game, and I didn't know much about it.

-Cheers!
