Here is a short video I made showing how to transplant a working rub sign.  Hope you find it useful.

I was triggered to look by the title you gave to this topic because it sounded very plastic ;)

Apart from that I´n not a big fan, personally, of instructions like these because it´s not very helpful and the risk of damaging the rubsign (like you mentioned separating the brown and the heat activated black layer) is way to big. So there´s a big chance you´ll end up with one (slightly) damaged Beast and a Beast with a non working rub anymore making both figures lack the rubsign gimmick...

Not sure why you decided to use the Canadian Warmonster Gator for this video but as you might know those didn´t even come with a heat activated rub that´s similar to the BB since they came with a Silver hologram sticker that´s something completely different. So what you´ve actually been doing here is removing an original Beasts from it´s original rub, that´s been on there for 30+ years, and stick it onto a Beast were it doesn´t even belong giving out a wrong message to those who might purchase it.

Sorry for being so picky here but you know I´m a purist when it comes to collecting and these things don´t go very well with the preservation of the original line as you can imagine.

Actually for every 5 that I transfer, I might separate 1 rub sign so the risk is not too high, if you know what you are doing.   Considering the difference in price between a common series 1 fig and some of the series 3 figs, it certainly makes sense to transplant the rub and raise the value of your figure.

As for the war monster, I know it was a different rub sign but the few people that I had who inquired about it both wanted a working rub anyway so it made sense.
