Has any thought been given to the issue of vote splitting? I think people would be a lot more likely to enter repeatedly if maybe the votes on their drawings could be added up.

Especially in a contest like this month's, where the potential for ideas is basically limitless.

I don't like that idea, simply that it's an Fan Art challenge, and not an Fan Artist challenge. I don't know, just my input. :D I'd rather the best Art piece win, instead of someone winning due to having more entries.

Is that what you meant Scummy?

I see where you are coming from and this is a problem I saw when I had my claw painting contest. The people who entered a couple entries could have possibly lost by sending two outstanding pieces and another guy sent one good piece. I loved all of them, and offering a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize sort of eliminated that problem, but say one guy send in two really outstanding pieces voters would be torn between the two, where as one guy just sent in one piece, he would have a better chance because all voters that like dhis piece would vote on that one piece versus having to decide between two awesome ones.

I also see some sour grapes from previous contests. I think a way to eliminate that would be by sending all the entries to the moderator, or whoever is holding the contest directing, and then let the voting be anonymous. Voters would be voting on the piece they like the best and not the piece of who they like the most (if that is the case, but I personally vote for the best piece of art when I vote).

Now that Doc mentions it, I like the idea of the voting being anonymous. As for the vote splitting, I don't think I would mind it either way. Whatever everyone else likes sounds good to me, but the anonymous part, where we don't know who's winning till the end, sounds great.

URS, after taking into account what you've said, you're absolutely right. The last thing i want is to get all excited on a subject and submit a ton of entries, and have that be looked at as the reason i won. Probably best to just keep it on a per drawing basis. Winning the $10 certainly is nice and offers up some extra motivation, but there are certainly easier ways to earn $10 if that was my only goal. -_-

Voting being anonymous would be a good way to put an end to hurt feelings, but it really bothers me that there are hurt feelings in the first place. I just don't see what the big deal is i guess. I kinda like being able to see the vote spread, adds to the excitement. But yeah, if votes need to be hidden to keep things civil, i guess that's better than ending the prizes or ending the contests.

Could we hide the artists? ;) Most of us seem to have a pretty solid style, that whether it is a different take on something, it always seems to pop out as Hey I know who did that one! :D

I mean Kevin has his dark color balance, Tortle has his remarkable Inking/painting skills, Scummy signs all of his art. :p And Ericnilla seems to prefer pencil. Then CZ always takes pictures of his photos, and Reccoom has his multi image themes or ink/color style.......I don't know.. I'm pretty sure I could match any of you guys up with your "anonymous" art. -_-

But don't let me crap on anyones ideas. :D

I think I must have misunderstood. I was thinking we could have it where we couldn't see how many votes each picture had till the voting cut off date, then all the scores would be revealed. But then again, it's not really a big deal. I think the current system works perfectly fine.

On the vote-splitting issue: how about the artists just say which one/two of their multiple entries. Or submit a final entry that combines all their entries for that topic.

I know I regretted submitting three or four entries, and watched as the votes were split amongst them, so that none of them won. Honestly, that's why I didn't participate in the last few contests, and am hesitant to generate more than a single piece for any future ones. It may sound like sour grapes, but when someone has put as much as they can into as many entries, and had them all lose, sour just isn't the word.

Maybe adding all the votes a particular artist gets for all his entries together would be a good idea.

Thanks Meaty. Then I hope you like this one too. B)
This may be my last one for this contest....I might just make a separate art section to put these if I do more. ;)

Wow man! You are really flyin'! That one came out great! Very unique and consistant style that is very appealing. I think you are a perfect example as to why we should just add up all the votes an artist gets on all his pieces to decide the winner. Each one of yours is so great and could easily get the votes spread evenly across them, like Reccoom was saying. That wouldn't be fair if you ending up not being the overall winner because of it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I like how some of you guys get so inspired that you develop a theme and really run with it, cranking out lots of great pieces that go together. That should be recognized, and not penalized. Maybe we should be voting for the artist as opposed to just the art.

Haha! Thanks guys! I'm actually having alot of fun doing these! :D I was actually thinking, if I did enough of these, about maybe putting them on a Blanky like Kevin said.

As far as the combined votes, that's really up to all you guys who are doing this. I was just thinking that if somebody else only had the time to do one entry that was SUPER GOOD, and then someone else did a bunch of excellent entries, that maybe it would take away from the other folks. ;) But I might be completely wrong. You guys go with your instinct and do what you want with the voting. I'll still be entering like I usually do. B) Win or Lose.

To those worried about vote splitting couldn't you post your multiple posts in a poll for one or two days a couple of days in advance of the overall vote and just enter the stronger
entry

Should it be one way or the other, or should each contest have it's voting rules specified?

I think the current system is best.

Like URS said, most people’s stuff has a look – whether it is the art, the type of art, the way the art is presented, etc.

While we have prizes the contests are much more about the fun. If people were competing for hundreds of dollars, or titles they could put on a resume, then I would understand having a mountain of rules and guidelines.

If people are inspired by a certain contest idea or concept then let them create as much as they want. I’d hate for someone to stifle their creativity because they were worried about whether they split the votes for $10. I love being able to see all the different stuff.

If the artist is really concerned about winning, then just submit one piece. They can showoff everything else after the contest. But that seems silly – ultimately these are about fun, but they could behave that way if they feel it is necessary.

Just my 2 cents.

if we enter multiple entries maybe we can add up all our votes, multiply by how many siblings we have, minus how many bowel movements we've had that day, then divide it all by our birthday. simple and easy.

It all depends on who is doing the contest. That's what makes it so fun. I for one like the single vote. It is just best to keep it simple.

I think that it should depend on the contest. The person running the contest should specify whether we'll be voting for the artist or just a single art piece.

There are some entries, like Recoom's MCW art, that seem to go together into one piece. In those cases, I would recommend that the artist puts everything into one piece digitally rather than submit them separately. So, Recoom's MWC art would have been collaged together into once piece so people are voting on the "entire story" rather than a bit.

But for other entries that are clearly separate, I would say it really depends on the person running the contest.
