Can someone update me what's been going on with Battle Beast collecting over the past half decade? I've been out of it for a very long time and am excited to pull my own loose set out of storage and get to display it again and chat with all of your folks about what you collect and what you're doing with our hobby.

Warning!  It is a wasteland these days.  Run while you still can.  The Chinese have taken over everything man.  They dropped the bomb around 3 years ago.  Most collectors are dead or in PRC labor camps.   Hide your collection or they will find you.

:D  This explains why things have gone so quiet out here for the past years...

Luckily some BB collectors, like myself operating from the Beastformers Dungeons on Planet Beast, have gone underground and are still active. Out here it´s not as busy as it used to be due to ¨competition¨ from the Social Media platforms as there´s a Facebook group and various other platforms where Beasts are promoted. In no way they can ever get close to the amount of valuable information that´s been shared out here in regards to the Battle Beasts line because you can dig around here for ages and still find new things. Apart from that and with the activity at a lower pace the new finds and stories aren´t always shared here anymore because of the lack of interest. But don´t underestimate the number of collectors who´re passively lurking around here, so when needed there´s always someone to help or answer questions.

Anyway welcome (back) to Battle Beasts collecting you seem to be a re-collector but unlike often it´s good to hear you haven´t sold your Beasts previously because in many cases re-collectors have to start all over again. Since you don´t have to do that I´m sure it´ll be a whole lot more fun because as you might´ve noticed the prices of the Beasts have gone up a bit. Especially in the last 1,5-2 years the prices for the normal Beasts have made a jump because were in the past prices of 30+ for Series 3 Beasts were paid only for figures like the Cobra and Penguin the other Series 3 Beasts are approaching that value fast as well. But rising prices with vintage toys aren´t really something new because when I arrived here on LRG I remember always being shocked to hear about the ¨low¨ prices that were paid 15 years or more ago but compared to the prices today I´m happy to say I already complete my set as well.

Depending on whether or not you are interested in more information about this line apart from collecting the Beasts it might be interesting to visit the Beastformers Blog.

Have a good time and have fun unpacking your Beasts and displaying them again...

Enjoy the Beasts!

I had a near complete MOC set plus a full loose set. I sold all of the MOC figures some time ago. I don't mind that I no longer have them, other than the fact the prices have exploded on unopened items since then. I am very glad I kept the loose set, because it will be exciting to display it.

I guess I need to remind myself that Battle Beasts are 30 years old. When I started collecting them as an adult they were only 12 years old. It makes sense that after 18 more years the prices would go up so much.

However, what doesn't make sense is how so many collectors have migrated to facebook groups. I have noticed this in my other hobbies, as well. I always prefer a little bit of anonymity that comes from having forums with usernames. On facebook, EVERY thing you do is connected to your profile. So I'm not interested in having some other people know about my toy collecting.

Hey, welcome back to the fandom! It's been VERY quiet on here- I feel like most of the information that's possible to get has been gotten, though those blog posts keep coming up with a few interesting notes here and there. I kinda got into this forum too late to really make an impact, but I'm still trucking away with my "Beast Description & Notes" topic and am almost done. We have a couple of people selling some Beast ideas on here, as "different Beasts" are becoming a thing to the collectors that have completed their armies.

There's also a bit of focus over "Greek Beasts" and other countries that have monochromatic Beasts, which are harder to find and have jumped up in price.

So I'm not interested in having some other people know Facebook sell information about my toy collecting.

FTFY :)

also, hi everyone.I came here with essentially this same question in mind; looks like I haven't missed much since I dipped out a few years ago. (though a little bummed I missed that enamel pin kickstarter; Leo pin looks nice)

Eventually I'm going to get my shit together and start selling off large parts of my LRG collection. I'll let you guys know when that happens before I do anything on eBay or insta

However, what doesn't make sense is how so many collectors have migrated to facebook groups.

I'm not really a Battle Beasts collector, but I wanted to echo this sentiment. I have seen this happen in a few of my collecting circles and it bugs the crap out of me. I get that forums can be a job to maintain, but FB is so gross.

It's also quite fleeting and not designed for organized collection of info & pictures. Someone posts something, it gets a couple likes and maybe a comment or two and then it's gone into the algorithm.

Not to mention that buying & selling on FB is a total crap shoot. No rules, no oversight, no guarantees. A couple months ago I called out someone on the Minifigure Militia sales group for trying to run an illegal raffle, and in response I was kicked out of the group. No explanation, no warning, just a ban.

Thank you

I picked up collecting the entire series a few years ago and missed most of the activity on this board.

I got a new job recently and I used to come on here daily on workdays but that’s no longer an option so I check back rarely.

I’m slowly trying to collect middle lasers at this point which is a very slow process. I wish I would’ve jumped back in ten years ago when prices and figures were more readily available.

It is also super weird to me that lots of collectors migrated over to social media.

This Hobby is looking very expensive nowdays...i started collecting in 2011-2012 in which everything has double in price or more since than.

Its looking pretty grim for anyone wanting to start fresh and get full set including lasers.

Some stuff that was historically not that expensive has exploded in price, while other things are getting way cheaper than I remember (the Euro shields in particular have no increased in price as much as many of the figures)  A few of the rarer lasers have had enough copies appear recently that they remain steady in price, while other things that rarely are for sale have shot up.  At least one big collector is liquidating some of his excess stock and there has been a lot of quick auctions lately, I'm not sure if people are getting into money trouble or just getting out as soon as they can.  There are also a few stores pricing things ten to 50 times higher than they usually go for and that seems weird, they keep relisting at their high prices.  I keep track of prices through watching the auctions on ebay and it is interesting to see which items go quickly and which don't.  I am not the only person trying to finish the last few pieces I never got over the years.  In two years of tracking ebay more closely than before I have not seen a striped carp for sale, clear carps are common, clear gators are rarer.  There is one Stone Cobra up now for $600.

For related stuff there was an explosion of the Greek Beasts a yearish ago where they were priced way high, and no one bought them at that price, and recently they've started appearing at non-wallet busting prices.  There has been so many I don't know if people are liquidating their collections or what is going one, I only really get a few of those and focus more on the Russian bootlegs when I go off-brand.  (that's also seen a lot of price spikes and drops, mostly drops on the non-rare stuff and judging from auctions there are only like five of us here who collect them!)

Also the feature to let sellers give you discounts if you are watching the auctions is great, I've also sent out a few offers for things I've seen listed for months and was accepted.

I don't really use Facebook so can't really speak for how things are there, my only active social media is twitter and that's usually for insulting politicians and chatting about movies.  If you are a new collection I advise saving up a bunch of money and buying one of the huge auctions with lasers that appear every few months, they'd be the best deal per unit it just is a pain to wait and save.  Otherwise just get your favs.

Good to know!  There is a guy who keeps posting fake boxed set listings with the same blurry pictures of the boxes with a new zero rating alt every few months.  I tried reporting one but it didn't get taken down.

I report aswell. They ruin it for others.....(two of them i think)

For those who dont know : He steals photos from YJA and posts the ebay ad for $100+ more(some cases ridiculous price increase).Than once it sells on ebay he buys from YJA and ships to you when he recieves it from YJA...

True, prices have gone up a bit but the Beasts/items you´d expect to increase in price like the Stone Cobra or EU Shields for instance have had quite a hit from the fakes/reproductions that were or are around. For those who know what to look for it´s not too hard to tell but if you´re a new or less experienced collectors I can totally understand those are items you´d stay far from knowing they can cost quite a bit and if you know there are fakes out there it´s a simple decision not to purchase them.

For those who are interested but don´t dare to take the risk because of the risk of getting burned the reproduction shields and sleds have been marked with a letter R or a date on them. This is something we´ve ¨Battled¨ for in the past and it´s a positive thing because just that simple marking shows you you´re dealing with a reproduction item. And if you have doubts you can always ask.

The Stone Cobra fakes are a big shame and even though we´ve tried to stop them it´s tough because they seem to come from Japan, were made pretty decent (at first sight), and even some reliable shops are offering them... They´ve been warned about these items but again if you don´t know what to look for and/or think you can get away with it they simply leave the items out there. It´s sad but also here goes if you know what to look for you´ll be able to tell. The Stone Cobra Scam was revealed before and also shared here on LRG: http://www.littlerub...268104&p=701603

And again if you have any doubts or concerns feel free to ask here or reach out to a fellow collector who might be able to tell you more about it because with these things its better to be safe than sorry.

But I´ve to add that even experienced collectors are not always able to tell the difference if they´re confronted with just pictures because the light/angle and other variables can make it quite hard to tell whether an item is a fake or not depending on the quality of it. In those cases ask for better pictures and if those don´t follow you might already have your answer.

If you can try to report them but often it´s not taken down or it shows up again after a while so the only real advice is to stay alert!

So do a little research or ask around before you decide to drop $600 or more for a Stone Cobra which might turn out to be a $30 fake...

I collect a few lines, BB are definitely the priority and I run a group on FB called Ottawa Collectibles.  One problem is that the last 24 Laser Beasts are getting so tough to find that it's limiting the growth of the community.  Frankly I find the counterfeiting of figures to be deplorable so I have been getting custom figures made, while I wait for the 10 high number and 2 mid number lasers to come up at a reasonable price.  This was my take on a white tiger.

I'm relatively new to the hobby, I've been collecting Battle Beasts for about 2 years. I started out with the idea of using the Battle Beast toys as RPG miniatures, and my collection grew from there. I now have about 18 figures and 1 vehicle. My RPG that I was running for my friends was going well, but it's been on hiatus for a little while due to the virus lockdown. However, they're looking to start up again soon, so I need to expand my collection some more!  :D

As far as I know, the Battle Beast collecting hobby has been the same within the last two years, from what I can tell. Then again, I buy most of my BBs without rubs or weapons, as I only get them to suit the needs of my RPG. There's a new, local toy shop in my area that specializes in 80's toys, but they never have BBs. I think this example gives a decent indication of what it's like to try to find these figures 'offline' FWIW.

I agree with you folks about Facebook, I'd love to see more of a return to the forum style posts.
