Hey peeps!

I never thought I would be posting in the MEMBERS ART/CUSTOM SECTION. (Because I am not talented in the slightest.)

Check out this sweet trophy plaque I made. (7 months in the making.)

Looks great! Never played Monster Hunter but I think the plaque is fairly self explanatory. Those wood projects can be time consuming. Been working on a MUSCLE cabinet for a very long time myself. I like that you routered the edges. Gives it a more authentic look and nice aesthetic appeal.

Thanks man!

For me, this was mostly a cost thing. I attempted to do it as cheaply as possible, (the wood, for example, was free!), but those heads alone set me back around $80-$100 or so CAD.

The plates were a steal at $20, and then another $10 on hardware to mount it all.

The wood itself was cut, sanded, shaped, sanded, routered, stained and poly'd all within a couple of months before Christmas!

So have you slain all those dragons yet? Sounds like a fun game. Do you have an army or sidekicks that help? Could imagine it would take more than just one man to slay a dragon, especially Lagiacrus and Deviljho. I'm assuming those are the tougher ones, they look badass.

I also got the wood for free. Have had a couple hiccups as I'm trying to make it look as close to the poster as possible and doing a glass door. It could and should have taken just a weekend or long day if I had all the supplies on hand. The glass has to be cut to fit which isn't cheap. That's where I stopped and it has since taken a back seat so to speak. Sounds like you were probably waiting on getting all of the dragon heads.

Pretty sweet idea and I like it more every time I look at it. Reminds me of 'Surviving the Game' or the spoof of it 'The Pest'. Good work.

Monster Hunter games have a pretty high learning curve. You go in solo to slay said monster most of the time. You have a stamina bar to manage and have to sometimes worry about things like being to cold in the mountains and staying cool in the volcano/desert. The game can be a bit hard late game because of it's core mechanics. You have to learn the monster's tells and know when to attack and dodge. Late game monsters can 3 shot you. You don't level as a character. You upgrade and craft new weapons and armor to help you progress. But in the end it's all about skill. You could have the "best" weapon and armor in the game, but it doesn't mean anything if you don't know what you're doing.

Sorry for going off topic.  :p

Awesome plaque! 7 months in the making really paid off. I wish I had that kind of patients.

The Lagiacrus shown here is the "Abyssal Lagiacrus" sub-species. (Their fancy way of re-using animals. They make them stronger, faster, and sometimes give them new moves.) I've actually never fought one! It's extremely late game for MH3U, and my copy mysteriously disappeared before I got the chance. (Not even kidding. I have the case for the game, but the game itself is gone.) His previous versions are both challenges though, for sure.

Deviljho has the hilarious nickname of "Savage Pickle", because he vaguely resembles one.

4uf56o.png

He does incredible damage and is an all around psycho. He can be easy if you've got a good team though!

You mostly hunt in teams. The single player portion of the game isn't nearly as fun. The monsters in multi-player are all more difficult to account for more people playing, but I still prefer it. Still, there are some people who solo the entire game.

Pretty much this. The game is similar to Dark Souls, (but I honestly find MH more difficult.)

The game can be very frustrating at times, but you get a good sense of accomplishment after you take down a monster you've been struggling with for awhile. The community is very active and 8/10 times INCREDIBLY helpful. (If you're really stuck, jump online! You'll get people who are well beyond your level jumping in to help you stomp that really difficult monster.)

Great game. Even better community. I always recommend Monster Hunter to those interested.

And to make things even more accessible: Monster Hunter Online, a Chinese MMO, is getting an English patch on May 30!

It's too bad MH items are so hard to come by in the states and cost a pretty penny, doesn't matter if it's a little blind bag critters or the hunter kits. Would love to see more stuff like this, turned out great!
Been working out some rough sculpts of some of the older monsters, still bust out the first MH and give that a go since it's still as much fun as the more recent titles.

Honestly felt that the Guild rank monsters in Tri weren't really that tough, not when compared to 4U. Could easily solo them with the Bow or Switch Axe - not so much with the newer title.

The real learning curve with MH is getting used to the armor/weapon layout and the best weak points on monsters. The game isn't one that holds your hand and explains things down to every last detail, they want you to hunt and team up with others (though soloing is just as much fun) to get the full experience.

Eagerly looking forward to MH Generations.

I am also looking forward to Generations, as well as online!

I JUST hit G-rank in 4U, but haven't really gone back to play it since. (Life being life, it gets busy.) I need to get on that again though, as I'm eager to fight some of the end-game stuff.

Thanks for the kind words!

Currently working up to G-Rank for online mode, already hit it in offline but have to redo that since I'd gotten rid of my handheld and the original copy previously. Only thing that gets grind-y in the new titles are all the subspecies and fighting multiple monster quests. Probably why I prefer some of the older titles in many respects.

I agree with you on that. Nothing worse than that goddamn silver rathalos/golden Ratigan wombo combo. No room to breathe on that fight.

Are you actively playing now? We should hunt together! I'm not half bad with the swagaxe, but I'm still learning it. (Lancebro before.)

So long as I got fire or poison res, it'll make life a bit easier! Unless they tack on frenzy... not looking forward to that.

Yep! Been working on raising the HR a little at a time between some projects. Working on getting to HR 6 - just need to complete the Urgent on that one. My fiance and I have been two-teaming most the Guild quests and powering through things, he prefers Hammer or Long Sword.

I really wish they hadn't nerfed the Bow in this title. Almost have to create a separate hunter for that just because keeping up with the coatings is so costly :/

I've never gone the ranged route ever before, mostly because I don't want to bother with the coatings and the ammo.

When I get home, I'll figure out my friend code and send it your way. I'll help you guys get up to speed and we can tackle G-rank together. I've been wanting to play again, but not wanting to play solo!

The coatings are just a pain since they're such a money sink and it takes enough time to get the farms rolling. Doing bow in Tri was cake, and so much fun! It's still fun in 4U but better when you have a full group. Might just get mats for the Kelbi Stingshot and do a set of armor then.

I'm not sure of my code either... never even looked into it before!
