The topic of prices and price trajectory interest me, and I know at least a few other people.  General Veers and UofM has had many, many excellent discussions on this and related topics, including another good one today. Recently, I decided to start tracking eBay auctions for a few months and see what the lay of the land looks like and see if I could better understand where things are heading, and since General Veers post today was in a similar vein, I thought I would start sharing these numbers here for  now, and hopefully continue to update this every month as I compile the data.

For now, what I did was track MUSCLE lot sales from eBay (avoiding single figure BIN and similar, and any mixed lots). Really I just want to know what the average single figure price is per month, how many figures are generally moving per month, and I also took notes on each lot for later use.

Finally, I am also tracking a few single sales that might help keep the pulse of the market.

Here are some highlights so far this year:

Sales tracked:           31

Total figures:            1177

Satan's Cross Sold:  4

Single Flesh Claws Sold:   11

mean value:                      $16.40

Dark Blue Claw:                $29.99

FEBRUARY

Good work, that's awesome.  I would've guessed the average price per fig to be lower.  Did you include Satan Cross and Claw prices in with the Price Per Figure data?

The price per figures is solely based on multi-figure lots and does not include the solo SC or claw auctions. So many smaller lots of figures sell for highly inflated prices that it pulls the price per figure up. I will run some more numbers soon but my guess is that 100+ figure lots are going to average closer to 70 cents while 10-20 figure lots probably trend to the $1 area.

EDIT : Just did a quick check and over 14 auctions since December that had 100+ figures and sold in auction (not Buy-It-Now), the average price per figure was $0.76

Right on, that makes more sense to me.  I usually had my eye on larger lots, and would've guessed they averaged around $0.75 a piece.

I love what you've done here. Not sure where anyone could find the time for this.
I don't have the link but there was a recent auction (maybe a month ago now)
For a large lot of flesh figs with a Satan Cross. Divided up the Cross averaged out at about a buck.
Not sure if you saw that listing but that should be the only way anyone buys one.
It really isn't worth the single sale prices that it's been going for.

Thanks. It really is not too time consuming. Maybe an hour to compile each month.

I may have not noticed the SC in the auction you found. I review the pictures to make sure they are all or almost all MUSCLE (not MIMP or BB or anything weird), and check for things like Claws and SC that might drive price up, but the only mixed lot SC I recall over the past 3 months was back in December.

Although I have not been running too many search variants and I am certain to miss auctions here and there.

I can tell you I will certainly try to get my SC out of a large auction, but I have only seen a handful of lots this way over the past year.  Usually I miss them until the winner starts bragging on here!

Data is my style!  But what can I say, I am a numbers nerd.  People lie.  Numbers don't.

I am pretty new to following toys with such detail, but I have a pretty massive data base of pen prices.  Actually tracked original NES prices for quite a while too.
