Hi,

I know nothing about pokemon or pocket monster. My nephew brought home these pocket monster cards that are from 1996 and are written in Japanese. If anyone can tell me if they are valuable or not, I'd greatly appreciate it. The red one, whom I've identified as Quilava, has a diamond in the bottom right corner and the blue has a circle. I do know the diamond means rare and the circle means common. If anyone can give me any information please do! Hope the attached pictures are clear enough!

Wrong kind of Monster In My Pocket, friend-oh. Although, I am sure somebody can help... This would have a better chance of being answered, if you posted in "Other Toys".

Circles are indeed common, but diamonds are only uncommon, not rare. Ericnilla's estimate seems awfully overvalued. I think you'd be lucky to get that much for both cards. Both of these cards are from the Neo Genesis set and, like most Pokemon cards people actually collected when they were new, outdated and not used in the current incarnation of the trading card game.

Most valuable are holographic cards that have never been played with, are misprints, or from special events. 1st editions almost double the value. That's Mantine and Quilava. No harm keeping them and if your Nephew likes Pokemon great way to start his collection!
