Okay, I just got a Gameboy Advance and E-Reader, and I thought I'd post a quick review. I don't have any Gameboy games for it yet, but I have two E-Reader games, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr, so the review will center around the E-Reader. On with the review... which, by the way, is inspired by a classic spaghetti western film...
THE GOOD: The games are EXACTLY like the classic 8-bit Nintendo carts. While they're not exactly like the arcade versions, they're close enough that any improvements towards making them more arcade-like would be little more than window dressing. The control is strong and the graphics are nice and vintage style.
THE BAD: The games are EXACTLY like the classic 8-bit Nintendo carts. This means that the screens are a bit difficult to see on the small GBA screen since the games were designed for a full-sized TV, especially since the GBA isn't backlit.
THE UGLY: For each DK game, you have to swipe 5 cards twice, for a total of 10 swipes! While you can save one game on your E-Reader, it's still a pain in the butt, especially if you want to actively play two games. Swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe...
But if you consider the fact that the games only cost $5, that swiping is something I can get used to. All in all, I would rate the E-Reader 3.5 out of 5 flaming barrels.

i still think a cartridge with a collection of 8-bit games would be for the best. the cards bend and tear, and it just seems stupid to swipe cards and junk. whatever though.

Excellent points. You're right... both of these games could fit on a single GBA cart with plenty of room to spare. Remember that the original 8-bit NES had a cart that included both Donkey Kong and DK Jr., and GBA is easily a 16-bit system so it could definitely top that. And you're also right, the cards are pretty flimsy compared to a cart.
But, like I said, $5 is a pretty good price for a game. And swiping the cards, although somewhat of a pain, is kind of cool. Trading cards that are actually games are pretty cool, too. So for the most part the E-Reader is cool, but it's definitely not what I was expecting.
