I am looking for a PS2 mod chip that would enable me to play import games and movies. I recently got a DVD of one of my all time favorite films, "My Wife Is a Gangster," but cannot play it because it is a Korean disc. Can someone point me in the right direction?

From SeiferA:

Guys,
IS there anyway an American can reserve a copy of the game and recieve those men? If no about how much would it cost, just might be worth it. Thanks

Like I said, National Console Support has the game for reservation, but I can't promise they'll include the reservation promos. They did it before, then again, they didn't at other times...

Region X is supposed to allow DVD's from all regions to be played on the PS2.
It's a little hard to find though. I've been wanting to buy Region-X for a while now
but all the ebay listings I find for it are from the UK (you need to get the version for US
consoles if you have a PS2 made for use in the USA). It will not, however, allow PAL encoded DVD's to be played. There is another disk that does the same thing. I think it's
called "region-free" or something like that. I see auctions for that one all the time on ebay. I don't know if it's any good though.

I hope that helps some.

If you can't find the chip you can look for a region free dvd player.

I have considered buying an all region DVD player. There are usually good deals on xxxxxxx.com where you get a pile of movies along with your purchase, but before I do that I am trying to kill two birds with one stone.
I want to be able to play import games anyway, so why not get a mod that can just do both, ya dig?

And I agree with Wraith. If it were not for region codes, I would not require extra hardware.
But I guess it does not matter, since I would simply find something else to deplete my funds.

Fuzz, I'm sure you've heard it before, but I would not use a PS2 as a DVD player.I just recently had to replace my PS2 after only 11 months of use.It seems playing DVD's cause your PS2 to "crap out" eventually.

I've had mine since launch. I 've had no problems with it, and I [I]do[I] play DVD's on it.
In fact at one time I had three PS2's (one for each TV) all of which I played DVD's on.
I still play movies on the two PS2's I still have (sold one). That's not to say that some folks don't have problems, but I haven't had any trouble myself. I'm really not a hardcore gamer, so I don't use my PS2 as much as some. That may have something to do with the longevity of my consoles.

*ching*ching* (my two cents)

 You had three PS2s and you're NOT a hardcore gamer? What would you consider "hardcore", man?! Six PS2s?! ;)

I don't know if it's a fact,Sony won't admit to it(that's not saying much).I would advise against it just in case. I didn't realize dvd players were so cheap. In the end I had to but a new ps2 and a dvd player. In the end the ps2 still played dvd's and dvd games, but not ps1(this happened first),and ultimately would not read ps2 games.I'd say your first warning sign will probably be slower load times when you first put in your game.Just a warning for those who may start having problems, but as gojiman said this may not always be the case.

I do know that the PS2 does contain an inferior DVD payer, But like Gojiman, I do not play all that many games on it (more into my oldschool systems.)
Thank you for the heads up, anyhow.
