So my daughter has taken an interest into gaming (probably my fault) mostly cell phone type since I do not own a gaming console.

Anywhoo, everytime we go to walmart or something we almost always have to stop in the game section so she can put the little Disney characters on the console and make them come to life.  I'll admit it, I think its pretty cool too.  But I really don't know anything about this game.  All she knows about it, is that she can play Elsa and she is beside herself because of that.  Is this game ok for 5-6 year olds?  Is it something they can enjoy?  I notice its available on most consoles, are some consoles better/worse for this game?  Are some characters limited to certain consoles?  I was reading its web page trying to figure out some stuff and I realize you can't play characters from different movies at the same time which kind of bummed me out.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Doubtful I will pick it up anytime soon cause the wife is totally anti-gaming, but with Christmas coming up and shit its something for me to consider.

My best friend is HUGE into Disney Infinity... he scoffs at my Amiibo obsession because of all the things he can do with his DI figures.  The games would be totally fine for your little girl.  The actual games them selves pale in comparison to actually being able to build levels and play with the different characters in the "playground" or "toy box" levels.

If you are too concerned, I would stay away from ones that you might NOT normally expose her too either way.  For example, there is a Lone Ranger set, while in the long run it's probably fine... you probably wouldn't drag your 4 year old to see the movie.  SO that's probably not a set you would want to get her either way, right?

Stick to the Frozen stuff, Pixar etc... and you are probably in good shape.

: )

Thank you, that's funny, I actually just read about the toybox mode.  So I guess Spiderman and Elsa can play together in that mode.  I appreciate your response.

My daughter is 6-and-change and she can play the games pretty well. There's some jumping sections she isn't 100% at, but the game is very geared towards children. (Enemies and bosses are reasonably easy to defeat, easy puzzles etc.)

And all of that is assuming you even play in the Playsets. In Toybox mode you can either walk around the pre-existing world or create one of your own, and you don't even need to put in enemies or puzzles.

The toybox mode in 2.0 is much better and easier to use, but I've had some issues with mine. My daughter and I spend a couple hours building a world two times and each time when we go back to load it, it just loads to black screen. Googled it, didn't find any kind of a fix, so after having that happen twice we haven't had the will to turn the damn thing back on. Given that google didn't turn anything up, I'm sure it's an isolated issue with my console or something.

On that note too, the game honestly runs like shit in co-op mode. I don't know why they're having a hard time optimizing this franchise, (the first one ran like shit too), but for some reason when you play in co-op mode the game gets all choppy and easily < 30 FPS.

Negative aspects aside, I've played both of the ones out with my daughter, ( who was 5 for the first game and 6 for the second), and enjoyed both. My only recommendation is waiting for a sale. The Disney Infinity stuff, for whatever reason, always ends up on a steep sale. I remember last year either around Black Friday or Christmas they discounted the NEW 2.0 set from $74.99 down to $50. (Here in Canada.) This was at TRU, and I can't see why they wouldn't do something similar again this year.

All of that aside, if she likes LEGO, they're doing a toys-to-life game for LEGO called "LEGO Dimensions." And it is every bit as awesome as you think it will be. Or so it looks, anyways. Pretty damn expensive though.

Draz is right, even though I don't play Disney Infinity myself... I'm very aware of their sales (because they are usually tied to amiibo sales).  Toys R Us has the best sales on the stuff.  I don't know about playlets, but the figures lots of times will be on sale buy one get one 40%.  Or 3 for $30.  Stuff like that.  Keep an eye on the TRU flyer if you get one in the mail.  In general on the Video Game stuff TRU seems to have pretty robust sales every 6 weeks or so.  Good luck!

I know this is a bit of an old thread now... but I was on IGN and I found a pretty cool wiki on the whole Infinity thing along with what is compatible with what.  Hope it helps!!!

I noticed the BOGO 40% is on right now with the drop of 3.0.  Tons of new characters too.

Thank you everybody, I really appreciate the feedback.

I have a funny and kind of embarrassing story to share.  One of two things holding me back from buying this game is I didn't have a gaming console, so I'd have to spend a few hundred just to get things going.  The other being my wife hating video games.  Anyhoo, while doing my research I realized this game is available on Xbox 360.  I figured that system would be out of date by now.  I actually have an xbox 360 elite from like 7 years ago.  The problem is, it suffered from the "Red Ring of DEATH!!!!"  Seven years ago when this happened, everybody I knew told me once you have the rrod you might as well dump your xbox in the trash.  Or spend a few hundred to get it fixed.  Since I wasn't playing it that much, I decided just to box it up and throw it in my closet.  Now, zoom seven years to the present.  When I noticed you can play the Disney game on Xbox 360 I decided to revisit the rrod issue.  I noticed now that there are several causes and depending on how many lights you have lit up it could mean a variety of things.  That gave me a glimmer of hope that my console wasn't totally wasted.  Come to find out, my particular ring arrangement meant that there was an issue with my power source.  So I was optimistic that all I might have to do is buy a new power source.  While researching that a little, I learned that this issue is often times fixed just by unplugging it all (three different areas to plug together) and plugging it all back together.  Sure enough, I unplugged everything, blew the dust out, and plugged it back in, and I'll be damned if my Xbox didn't start working again hahahahah.  I felt like such an idiot for having the thing sit in my closet for seven years when all I had to do was unplug it and plug it back in hahahaha.  Ugh!  Duh!

Needless to say, now that I have a working console, I will certainly be picking up this game for my kiddos for Christmas.  I will most likely get 3.0 since you can play older characters with it as well.

Just be aware that a lot of games now require quite hefty downloads to actually run, so an internet connection will be needed (and if you have an older 360 memory may become an issue). I can't remember if the Elites had built in Wi-Fi or required the adaptor?

I got into Disney Infinity back when 1.0 came out. I was in Toy's R Us the day it came out and was kinda unsure...but I really wanted to play The Incredibles, so I bought a starter set for the Wii U and all The Incredibles figures. I was like...okay, that's it. I'm not going to get any of the others. And that soon turned into...I'm not going to buy the Cars ones. And then I blink and I had the figures that were out and the power discs. So I was pretty much hooked from then on and have been buying each new installment and all the figures and extras. I haven't started playing 3.0 yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to sinking my teeth into that.

I also buy the Amiibo figures because I like how they look, but they are very lacking from a gameplay standpoint, sadly.

I'm reeeally looking forward to Lego Dimensions, though. Dr. Who! Ghostbusters! Portal!
