Hi Guys, I've heard of this one but didn't know if it was just a rumor or not. Well... today it happened to me. People trying to take advantage of others by tugging at their heart strings with this scam. Read this e-mail I got concerning one of my auctions on ebay...

PERSON WRITES........
Hi. I recently viewed your immensely impressive original Nintendo
Gameboy upon the Ebay auction block. Initially, please allow me to
introduce myself; I, A.J. Jambotkar, currently am a student at the
American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.

The impending reason as to why I currently am addressing you remains that my younger cousin Mithun, who tragically became diagnosed with
lymphocytic leukemia almost seven years ago, is ecstatically celebrating
his seventeenth birthday this year (SIDE NOTE: This remains a thoroughly
shocking phenomenon due to the fact that a plethora of doctors formerly
predicted that Mithun would fail to live past the age of fifteen). You
see, Mithun remains an enormous fan of the original Gameboy but
unfortunately fails to own one; more than anything within this entire
world, I would love to deliver to him this particular system for this
truly memorable occasion. Unfortunately, due to enormous tuition fees,
etc., I remain thoroughly unable to purchase this item for this truly
courageous and spirited soul known as my cousin. What makes matters
worse is the fact that Make-a-Wish Foundation remains unable to assist
Mithun in this request due to the fact that his cancer has not been
deemed within the "terminal phase" yet.

Therefore, since I recently viewed your auction, I currently am wondering
as to whether or not you may remain willing to perhaps donate a Gameboy
system to this truly noteworthy cause (i.e. whatever you remain willing
and able to spare shall be much appreciated). Unfortunately, I remain
truly sorry and rather embarrassed to state that I do not remain within
the position to provide you with anything in exchange except for utter
devotion to promoting your website and Ebay sales to my numerous
relatives, acquaintances, and friends at AADA and at various other
nationwide colleges. In addition, I can promise you that this
magnanimous act will provide you with the genuine heart-warming
satisfaction of realizing that you are assisting a cancerous child...I
know for a fact that Mithun wishes for this particular system very much.

Please respond ASAP at this address (i.e. "*****@juno.com") in regards
to your thoughts concerning this matter within an utterly positive sense,
and I sincerely anticipate hearing from you soon! Once again, I
genuinely appreciate your immense assistance, understanding, and
cooperation in advance.
Sincerely, A.J. Jambotkar>>>>>>

I knew exactly what this was about when I started reading it, and it made me sick. Some idiot is out there shopping for himself and trying to take advantage of of peoples good nature. It makes me wonder how many people get suckered out of items on ebay, or even money to this Jerk? I've got tons of Junk e-mail like this, but I guess the crooks just get more clever. This is probably a new trend eBayers will see more and more of. If this happens to you, make sure to report the scum to eBay! Wanted to let you all know about this scam in case you haven't heard about it yet. Hope no ones parted with a Satan Cross this way!!

It is sickening that people will go to such lengths to get something for nothing.

Glad you reported him.

Maybe you could use that email address and sign him up for a few websites that have newsletters. Ones about the weather might work well something really boring. Spam the spamer.

I think that you should reply with this message to turn the tables on him:

"Hi, AJ. Under normal circumstances, I would love to donate the Gameboy to your younger cousin. However, I am unfortunately unable to donate the Gameboy, given a personal and serious tragedy of my own.

"You see, my younger sister, Punky, has been full of life and energy virtually all of her 7 years on this earth. But she's recently been somewhat lethargic. After a terrifying seizure, we took Punky to the hospital. She is diagnosed with a serious (and possibly terminal) case of Suckalewski's Disease. Of course, as with all Suckalewski sufferers, the hospital bills are enormous. This auction was intended to raise money to help her battle the vicious and deadly disease.

"I regret what has happened to your cousin, but I must devote all of my time and energy into helping my little sister. I hope your cousin gets better soon."

I responded to The scumbag... aratimj@juno.com with Nates idea. It's funny... He says he's in college in L.A., but when you check the e-mail source, it comes from a router in New Jersey.

 HA! Actually, "Suckalewski" is from a classic radio bit from the Greaseman (one of those "shock jocks"). "Suckalewinski" is actually much funnier, though... wish I thought of it! :p

However, it is a bit more disturbing when put in context with the story. A 7-year old girl with Suckalewinski Disease? That type of comment might get me kicked off the board... ;)

Let us know what that bung munch's response is, Darrin!

I hate to tell you that since this guy probably sends these emails out to as many people as he can, youd probably be surprised how many people fall for it. When I was playing diablo2 the forums were full of people putting up posts for ridiculous obvious scams like type your pass so i can fix your account(that isnt broken) or trading extremely valuable items for less valuable items and when you went to trade with them they would try to do a ground trade and steal your stuff (this probably makes no sense to anyone who hasnt played diablo). But anyway, you also saw a lot of posts by newbies complaining how they had been jipped by these stupid scams, it was utterly ridiculous how many people fell for these stupid tricks, the only thing you can do is what you did, warn people about them and dont fall for them yourself.
