These were mine when I was a kid. Now my daughter thinks they are the "most awesome-est ever!". I was hoping to find them for sale elsewhere, but searching for "rubber monster" on eBay is somewhat, umm, entertaining. Pics are below. They are approx 4 or 4.5in tall to the head. The rubber is fairly soft (easily compressed) and they are hollow. There are no stamps anywhere. They were purchased in Corpus Christi, Texas in the late 1970's. Any thoughts?

These monsters are called Ugly Wugglies and have been around forever. They are actually intended to be pencil holders. I have two soft rubber ones and one that's made of a harder plastic. They are actually still available to buy through teacher supply sites and the like. Here's one link:

The Ugly Wugglies have arrived! I think I'm more excited than my daughter! The rubber is a bit firmer and they are about 10% smaller than my ones from the 70's (at the far right of their respective type's row), but still totally awesome. One only stands with help and a few are a bit unsteady, so I'm glad I got 36. Thanks again!!!

Awesome, thanks for sharing the pic! I might have to pick up a box of these myself.

It's great to see these are still around today...I had seen these in a little Wal-Mart arcade in a dinosaur-themed crane machine months ago. Too bad that over the generations, the basic color themes seem to be the same on the six sculpts. I've occasionally seen the odd major variation.
