About 20 years ago I bought this little sake cup from an antique store and I've had it since; it's currently being displayed alongside my meager yokai & netsuke collection on the fireplace mantle. I always thought it was a neat trick to use the refraction of the sake to show a hidden picture under the marble.

Not sure how I never noticed this before, but today I just made this connection:

The mechanics are slightly different, but maybe this was part of the the inspiration for the designers when they were coming up with the crystal orbs to to replace the Beastformers' "hidden" rubsigns?

I'd rather assume Sake is responsible for the names of the Beasts at least their English translations :)

Guess the Japanese from Takara must have had a lot of fun with the Americans from Hasbro commming over that night.......

But like a wise Japanese saying: Don't blame it on the Sake ;)

So who's going to submerge a beast in sake to see what's behind its orb?

Not me.  Slag King is a bit of a party animal...and my Grencats has already been caught three sheets to the wind!  A definite lush, that one...
