This is my favorite gaming series of all time. Shenmue fans have been waiting for over 10 years for this. Hard to explain what a big deal this is to someone who hasn;t played the first 2. The best way to explain it is if like you were a Star Wars fan back in the day, but Episodes I and II, while being amazing movies, were TOO ahead of their time and then they decided to never make Return of the Jedi. And then you had to wait around for over a decade wondering if Return of the Jedi was ever going to be made.

So yea, I am beyond hyped for this game. Backed it with no hesitation. Any other Shenmue fans here?

I played a tiny bit of Shenmue II. I honestly don't understand the hype/appeal.

But given that parts of the internet are going apeshit, there has to be something.

I remember when my friend got the original for Dreamcast and was so excited to show me how awesome it was. I watched him for like 20 minutes and all I saw was a lot of conversations, awkward walking, and a bunch of time spent at the gachapon machine. Might be cooler than that though, I never looked into it tbh.

Outside of watching someone play and having a similar experience, this is all I know about the game:

I didn't think I'd care for the game when I tried it years ago on Dreamcast, but I found myself becoming immersed.  The vending machines, playable arcade games, and other neat bits hooked me.

The forklift driving was tedious but very rewarding.

For anybody else who is interested in what the big hubbub about this game is, I did find this:

I haven't read it yet, but it seems pretty detailed. (Just a heads up!)

It's a shame Sega never brought part two out for the Dreamcast back in the day.  I remember reading that you could start the game with your save from the previous title and you could sell all the gashapon stuff you collected for extra cash.  In the meantime at least we can enjoy Shenmue's spiritual sibling...  The Yakuza series!

The forklift driving was tedious but very rewarding.

Ironically, that was one of my favorite parts.  There was something so strangely satisfying about moving those crates around and having FORKLIFT RACES!
