Man, do I like some Dragon Ball. I've been following it ever since the first series was released in English in the 90's and have tried to watch or read as much as possible of it. Naturally when I saw all the cool keshi that had been made I wanted to collect them. I started with winning a large lot in an auction with the intentions of being satisfied with just those, but you all know how that sort of thing goes. I was so struck by all the different variations and obscure characters that were there that the absence of others in my collection was all the more glaring, and I kept cherry-picking auctions until I have things almost where I want them.

Dragon Ball is a merchandising powerhouse on the level of Mickey Mouse or Star Wars. This is not really a collection you could hope to complete, there were hundreds and hundreds of these things, some sold in vending machines or blind boxes and others sold in window boxed sets in toy stores over the course of decades. Some were obviously from individual lines, like the gold ones and the stubby guys with straight arms. I have a capsule insert from a series of painted figures that came around the end of DBZ, this "official" line from Bandai had figures numbered as high as #472. And there were certainly more after that.

Anyway, the figures in the pictures to follow are my collection. They are the merest drop in the bucket compared to what's probably still out there, but I'm posting them in the interest of documenting some of what's available. I assume every color of these are equally available, so I only photographed special color variations.

First Tenka'ichi Budokai set- these were apparently sold as a boxed collection as the rubber is different and some figures are very large. They add a nice splash of extra color to my box even though some of the sculpting is not as good as the gashapon figures. RanFan was especially disappointing, not sexy at all!

Posted Image

Yamcha, RanFan, Naam, Giran

Posted Image

Budokai Semi-Finalists- probably the only figures these guys ever got. Bacterian is conspicuously absent from the set, I've added a different sculpt of him.

Posted Image

Emperor Pilaf, Chao, Boss Carrot, Cyber Taopaipai (Mercenary Tao), Piano

Posted Image

Eighter (Android 8), Yajirobe, General Blue(?), Naam

Posted Image

Zarbon, Cui, King Kai, King Yemma, King Vegeta, Shen. Dragon Ball has a lot of Kings!

For the last one:

Left is Doore from movie 5, middle two are Sauza from movie 5, right guy is one of the two little scientists from movie 4. I forgot his name - Gyoshu? Gyoza? Something like that. Also, the Bojack guy is another dude from Movie 4. "Angila."

Wow a great collection! I always thought it was weird that they made keshi of the driving instructors.

Thanks, I've made the changes in the original post. Those are the hardest characters to keep track of, most of those guys might get their name said only once in the movie, then they get killed and you never see them again.

It's awesome that they did though! I like that episode, even though it's dumb and there's tons wrong with it. Like Goku could just teleport his wife to the grocery store, or let her get the driver's license. Plus the covers of half the DBZ collections have Goku driving some kind of vehicle with no problems.

Excellent collection! Thanks for sharing. Agreed this is one of the highest quality keshi lines out there. I'll be asking here next time I need a figure ID'd!

Very cool pics, love seeing different versions of the characters together like that.

I have a small box of around 200 DBZ keshi ive never really gone through. maybe i can take some pics and you can help me identify some, im not too familiar with the series other than a the few main characters.

Sure, I'd be glad to. Towards the end of the series when everybody was going Super Saiyan there got to be a lot of similar-looking guys running around, it can be tough to tell them apart even if you do follow Dragon Ball.
