As for mass producing sculpts... Yeah. I am crossing my fingers, haha

You won't have to wait long.  You are a young man and you will definitely live to see accessible 3D scanning and printing.  It's at a stage similar to the early days of the PC.  The technology will be there.  There are 3D scanners and printers available today that could take one of your sculpts and reproduce it.  They are just very expensive.  But the price will come down.

For example, who did Jakks foresee would be the customer base for S.L.U.G. Zombies? Where they marketing to children? Nostalgic MUSCLE collectors? Walking Dead fans? The millions of people obsessed with zombie apocalypse strategies? People who like pop culture parodies? People who see the zombie craze as in indication that we are all 'walking dead'? All of those groups?

I think the marketing was the biggest problem. A big segment of customers that would have been interested in SLUG Zombies are adults that maybe haven't had a reason to go to a toy store or look in the toy aisles in 20 years. Running a couple commercials during The Walking Dead might have prevented these from ever going on clearance at Target.

Spot on! Even if they weren't buying for themselves, they would have thought it was a great cheap toy for the little monsters in their lives.

Spot on. A Walking dead commercial would have been brilliant (if costly) - After all isn't The Walking Dead series the biggest mainstream zombie products ever?

I would also have seen those in HMV or other DVD / pop culture store alongside horror movie, novelty mugs, geeky ice cube mold and POP! vinyl miniatures - they would have been very comfy in such an environment. Perhaps hard to get into, but neat nevertless...

Anyhow, as a fan of the series from Canada I never saw any in store, abeit they must had some in Canadian store (or planned to) since the package on the one I got from E-bay were bilingual - French and English.

Hulk is absolutely a comic villain... He's just the most likable of them all. Haha, Banner in not that far a cry from Doctor Doom, if you think about it.

As for pro wrestling, I don't watch it like I'm viewing a sport, I watch it like I'm viewing "Die Hard". Bruce Willis isn't really a cop, nor is Alan Rickman actually German... But it's there to entertain me. I think that is the biggest disconnect between wrestling fans and non-fans. When I say a wrestler is "good", that means I think he is a talented performer, much like your favorite action heroes.

MMA is becoming less and less about being "real martial arts", and more about trying to eke out a victory on the score cards. Fighters are competing to not lose, as opposed to competing to win. I find that disgusting, and don't really watch it that much anymore.

As for Jakks... Man, they have let some real gold slip from their fingers. At least Moose has learned from their mistakes...

  • Interests:My wife, kids, art, movies, & anything else that interests me for more than ten seconds. I love action figures of all types & sizes. I grew up on Ninja Turtles (by Playmates), Batman (Kenner), Marvel (Toybiz), and I'm a product of the 80's & 90's. I am currently buying mostly 2 inch scale & some Marvel stuff in 3 3/4 or 6 inch. I am also a painter & sculptor when I need to pay for fun things like bills & food. Strange toys make me smile

I had all of these preordered at Entertainment Earth...so I am a bit bummed. I was most excited to get Zombie #100 and in my opinion the tail end of the line was more interesting that the first half. I don't know how many of you guys saw the poster, but there were lots of cooler sculpts that I will never get...just because some pencil pushing moron doesn't see a future. With anything being released in this day and age...is it possible that maybe the price point and lack of availability played a role? I have never even seen series 1 in person and it seems that Jakk's overcompensated the next 3 to the point of clearancing the line to death. I would think that as a customer courtesy we might be able to buy our preordered items.

All of this reminds me of the GI Joe Extreme Mayday figure. Years ago they were supposed to release a Mayday figure....and she was the best sculpt in the line, but someone cancelled it out. I look at Fist Ful of Power...and although the paint had issues...it was a fun line. Countless 1990's X-Men lines were announced and then dropped. Why is it that companies advertise their coolest products and then drop them? Why do these corporate fat cats announce something and then break my little kid heart? I know the reason is money, but it still pisses me off.

I hate that toy companies short pack the coolest stuff and then bog me down with countless Ironman toys or repeat wolverine figures. I love Wolverine and toys as a whole, but you would think that these companies could be more creative & thoughtful of where their money comes from.

I worked previously for larger companies and my pride forced me to give them to bird and work for myself.

The sad thing with S.L.U.G. Zombies is that my kids really liked it and I promised them I would get them all for them to share an entire set. At this point I can't even find series 1 and I like to make promises to my boys that I can keep. It is upsetting to me that they would offer a preorder and then back out. I could see cancelling after series 6 or whatever, but why list things and then cancel?

At the end of the day it could have been better, but I'll take pigeon toed zombies over $12 Marvel Universe anyday.

It was probably in French, because Target is French owned and it was one of the retail stores that carried these guys.

I feel your pain, PlasticVisage.  I totally agree that some of the best sculpts were among the unreleased.  My daughter and I NEEDED Popeye, Axl, Ben Franklin, Bronson, Bethany Hamilton (shark attack victim), Jesse Ventura, Sigourney, Pulp Fiction rapist, the little boy to go with the little girl zombie, Harry Potter, and Donald Trump.  But like you, I wanted The Dude/Jesus zombie more than any on the poster!  These are just my favorite unreleased figures!  I like every sculpt in the line, they are all fun!  And for cryin' out loud, we don't even get Rotting Rau, the guy on all the packaging!!

It really sucks.  But I'm new to the game and I guess many of the collectors on this forum have suffered through many toy cancellations in the past.

You never know.  The line might resurrect (no pun intended) down the line... but I don't know that something like that has ever happened in the past.

The bright side for my daughter and I is that we may just start sculpting our own figures.  That way we get exactly what we want.

I'm sad to see this line die. Of all the unreleased figures, it's Ripley that I'm most gutted we won't see. And of course SLUG monsters.

Maybe somebody will try and sculpt (some of) the figures that were never made, cast them and sell them. Sort of like how some of the GPK figures have been sculpted.
