The most unjust of all America's laws, the greatest tragedy in history, is that we can't have Kinder Eggs. Kinder manages to combine candy, toy, and choking hazard in a perfect storm of awesomeness - it's a chcoolate egg with a plastic capsule inside containing a toy. But since American kids don't even try to chew on things and just blindly shove whole chocolate eggs down their gullets, the toys are deemed a choking hazard and ILLEGAL IN THE UNITED STATES. Not just illegal to sell - owning them can get you jail time.
But, as it turns out, there is a loophole - if the capsule is visible through the chocolate, or the chocolate falls offf the capsule, everything is okay! And thus... Yowie.
Yowie is an Australian line based on the wonders of endangered species. In Australia it's on wave three or five or... something, but out here in the US, it's just beginning to show up. The wrappers show off different "characters" from the series, though they do not indicate what you will find inside.
Here is the chocolate. it is awful, has a weird texture, and tastes like wax. It also falls off the plastic capsule really easily to keep choking hazards from happening.
The capsule also has an odd texture. Strange, really.
Those capsules gave me two Yowie characters (who are kindasorta based on Australian creatures), and a bunch of animals. it's odd how the animals and the Yowies just don't match up, but they are honestly pretty entertaining. For a couple of bucks, it's worth checking a Wal-Mart or grocery store for this (you'll have to use Google to see if they're sold anywhere near you. Check the candy aisle). The animal figure look surprisingly good, and have some fairly accurate detail. And as for the Yowies? Well, you know what they say...
