I'd LOVE to make my own customs, but I have no idea where to begin. Can anyone tell me, like, what do you use to make the unique bodies? I realize you'd canabalize Beast parts, but... would you use Sculpy?

And how do you paint them so well?

I realize this may be a little more involved than just a simple answer...

There are quite a few customizers here on the board. Have a look in the customs section. I am sure they would all be glad to give you a few pointers.

Here is some info as well:

Agree with Jay (retroactive) and Jon (Jkaris).

First its good to hold back broken or messed up/dicolored figs or to search for these explicitly to get the fig you want to make a custom from or out of. Using mint figures for this is a shame as their vintage value comes from their condition, don't forget we are talking about 26 year old figs here and if we mess them up its not something you can undo easily.

And when it comes to messing them up its a wise decission to get to a real custom artist of which there are indeed enough out here on the board and they can make real artifacts out of your messed up/broken figs. There are enough examples of well done and succesfull customs out here.
I currently have a little custom army in progress in which my ideas become reality with the help of one of those artists, which they are in my opinion as its pretty hard to get a detailled paintjob done on these little guys.

But of course its also something you can learn yourself if you'd take the time for it and have a little talent :)
I'd say give it a try if you find some messed up figs and ask around for materials paint etc. to use in the custom part of the board as I'm sure all artists out there are more than willing to give you some information about what's best to use.

You guys would hate me then because I used mint figures back in the day. That was when they were really cheap, now they are not so much. LOL

Hate, despise, loathe, really any of those would fit. Personally as much as I love beasts, I say if you buy a figure, you can do as you wish to it. My customs and money goes to Ersico cause I love his work, but there are several great custom guys on here. Some of your custom lions are up there with my favorites too so mint or not, I am glad you made them.
