My non-toy kickstarter project is approaching $20,000, twice its original funding. I obviously have the audience to start making toys, and I'm already making some by 3d printing and individual casting through some friends...but some concepts I have are going to really need to be larger scale productions, which means communicating with a Chinese factory.
I've asked a number of artists and brands now for any leads on where to go, and so far, I've never gotten an answer. I've gotten "good luck in your search!" from people who already do this for a living and it's feeling quite a bit like they're gatekeeping me or something.
I don't want to muscle in on the indie toy market. I want to make little novelties like rubber bugs and finger puppets. I even tracked down contacts in Archie Mcphee and got another "good luck!"
