this is one that a few of you have probaby been waiting for: zebra in the french twist arobic pose! this was a wizardworld indy pencil sketch, very undefined, kind unfinished, and the artist apparently thought the stripes were bandages. What I ended up doing was implying the stripes w/ the silver paint sharpie, then inking the whole page w/ the darkest purple I have. Even highlighted his signature in silver, so it would still be visable.

another wizardworld indies sketch, where the artist did some shading in prismacolor markers, and I added a bright yellow backdrop. a lotta black and some explosions, and this could be a kmfdm cover

This is the last of the wizardworld indy picks, and the last from 2004. By my counts, I've posted 24 so far, have another 35 ready, and am working on 30 new concepts. I actually have a BIGGER lead than when I first started posting these. Rock on, indeeed!

this is a three fer one special! PVP at plano comicon, this was the guy that drew the Tab joke pick at wizardworld. he grabbed the first three charachters outta the bag, and drew them attacking his pvp guy. for a long time, I skipped this sketch for coloring, annoyed at his charachter plug. when I finally did start, I added a buttloadof black hatching around the figures, and colored like they were caught in a flashlight beam. I really like the way it turned out.

Here's an interesting one: this guy actually did all the colors himself, at the Plano comicon. I had the markers w/ me, and he jumped right in. Also unusual: he charged 10 bucks, then requested that I e-mail him a copy....

This is one of mine. I had the concept, and even did the coloring on the page, before I picked out which figure would get it. The concept: a stealthy camoflauged character, dropping down on the viewer. All of the linework for #179 was done without a net: every line was drawn freehand, with no pencils to map them out. Very proud of this one :D

As I've mentioned earlier, I have been scanning and posting these in the same order they are in my book, not neccesarily the order they were DRAWN in. This page was left blank by both convention artists and myself for a long time, for no apparent reason. So last night, I gave it three hours worth of love, and it speaks pretty well on my current artistic tastes and abilities. If I were to post him in chrono-order, youse guys wouldn't see him for another 30 or so sketches, but its refreshing to occasionally display something fresh and new every now and again. luckily, there are a few blank spaces ahead in the book, and I think I'll start leaving blanks on purpose from now on B)

The figure is actally drawn w/ two different orange shade gel pens (sunkist for muscle tones, neon for masks, one-peice, boots, and swatches), but does not transfer well by my scanner.

I've been meaning to ask (Johnny in particular) do you all want these pics to stay posted here perpetually, or should each pic have an expiration date? These have gotta be holding up a lot of bandwidth that could be put to better use elsewhere. Just a thought.

This sketch also had no pencils: all the figure was freehand gel pen.

New photoshop mild effects, and much higher res and size added

Here's the first of this week's pics: an unknown charachter. I remember handing #57 purple to this guy, and him going on and on about how he used to love these guys, and then drew a sketch that looked not much of any like 57, or any other king muscle fig for that matter. He has a goatee?

Usual improvements, plus muted the overpowering red in the pic.

Another of mine, this is the first pic in the book that I really goofed up on, tried to recover, and couldn't quite pull it off. On the left side of the page, I couldn't get his arm right, so I tried to make it look like his hands can appear anywhere fromm a cape of shadows. My girlfriend looked at it. I tried to b/s it off as "shadow powers", and now she gives me greif every time she sees it

The updates for this one were so drasticly different from the original, I left the old pic for reference.

[FONT=Times]Sorry about the gap in posts, guys. Being an employee of a plant rental company that greens up conventions, when premeir designs and mary kay roll into town, there's hardly time for sleep (worked 95 hours last week,97.5 hours week before last). But since I'm still alive, here are the catch-up posts.

This first one is a monochromatic ink and paint that turned out to be one of my favorites that I've done. Pretty figure-accurate too.

[color="#000080"]higher res, signature added.

This is Kevin Steel. He is the best convention artist I've run into so far (Todd Nauk is a very close second). This is the first of four of his sketches scattered throughout the book, and if I could afford it, I'd love to have him draw them all. Who knew that a sketch of the slug guy could kick so much arse?!? Not content to do jst a headshot, he drew the crap outtah the whole figure. very sweet.

Had lots of fun updating this pic. the colors worked perfect, no matter where I slid the pointer in the adjust hue window.

Again at the PVP table (I really should stop going there), this was a 2-minute screwkid head that really didn't do it for me. Wonky geometry and squiggles abound, which I gues is impressive, considering how little picture there actually is. ah well.

Color enhance, higher res. Don't know how many views it had prior, since the counters are gone...

Another PVP special, this one was was actually drawn, erased, and drawn over by the artist. Way too simple for my tastes, and not worth the 5-spot it cost me.

I've noticed a trailing off on the veiw counters, and with pics like this, I can understand why. Should I only post the good ones, or does everyone want me to keep doing what I'm doing, the way I'm doing it?

Not much change. just bigger, crisper, and redder.

The second post for this week; Tal Hollingsworth, a good friend of mine and a great artist. According to him, the ambiguosness of the charachter was unintentional (okay, enough big words for this post). He has one more that will post next week, then awhile later, his akuma shogun! most sweet.

Greatly enhanced resolution, and two hue variants. Enjoy!
