And whenever I am town... THIS is where I go.  I was surfing on youtube and I found a little news segment about the Main Street Amusements.

Thought I would share!  I don't remember if I have mentioned this particular fetish before - but if anyone else loves pinball feel free to chime in!!

I love pinball...  When I was a kid my dad would always take me to arcades and one of my favorite machines was Gottlieb's Haunted House.

I think the last time I played an actual PHYSICAL pinball machine was at a Dave & Busters about 10+ years ago.  It was that Martian invader pinball game with the 3d field gimmick.

I LOVE the original Attack From Mars.  It was a very fun game and actually one of my top 4 pinballs games.

Here's the one you are thinking of... it's called REVENGE from Mars.  It came out during a time when pinball sales were slagging and the industry was dead/ dying, and they came up with a way to project the monitor screen onto the board.  This game was very well received and did very well, however I agree with you.  I always found it gimmicky and never liked it.

With the success of Revenge From Mars they did a second game in this style (the tech was called pinball 2000) based on Star Wars Episode 1.  But eh game was NOTORIOUSLY bad, and a huge expensive flop.  So rather than try and do another game with the new tech - that to be fair was successful and well received with Attack From Mars, Midway closed up shop and decided to focus on slot machines.  And thus the industry died.

There is ONE company left that still makes machines.  Formerly SEGA pinball, it's called Stern.  And they are the ONLY manufacturer left in the US.  Most of their games are cheap licensed machines (Family Guy, LOTR etc), BUT every once in a while they have some gems.  All of their machines have very small runs, and are relatively limited.  I like their Walking Dead pinball.  I just played the GOT one, but didn't get enough time with it to decide if I liked it or not.

Hellz yes!! There is this seaside town that I go to a few times a year and they have an old bowling alley. The bowling can be fun but is certainly not why I go. Heck, I bowl maybe every 5th or 6th time I go.

Tucked away in one corner of the place is the smallest arcade you could imagine. A buck hunter, one of those motorbike games and a single pinball machine. So definitely not what you got going on there but sometimes it's quality over quantity lol.

The game they have there is Creature from the Black Lagoon. Now I know it's not the oldest or most involved pinball machine but I absolutely love it. I put in a Lincoln a couple months back and played for 2 hours. My girlfriend wasn't thrilled but she's a good sport and understands the tradition. My dream is to one day own that machine.

I play more locally as well but that is one of my favorites.

Edit: Ha! Guess I should have watched the clip first. Yea, that Creature of the Black Lagoon machine is epic fun!

Ive played 100's of pinball games through my years. My uncle even used to have an arcade in west Wild Wood.
So many favorites. I haven't played in along time now. But one of the last I played was the Adams Family. Very cool

I'm not too bad at pinball, wouldn't say I'm crazy for it.

I've got a buddy who is batshit crazy about pinball and old arcade machines though. He owns several of each!

The owner of the place I go to in the beginning of my thread?  He says his FAVORITE is the Creature From The Black Lagoon!  It's actually got a pretty good following among pinball fiends!  It's funny you mentioned that you played for hours... that was one of the things that always hooked me about the pinball was the idea that if I played REALLY well I could be rewarded with not only a high score, but a free game!!  And keep playing FOREVER (although it never worked out that way...)

I can't remember if it was Adams Family or Twilight Zone, but I think AF holds the record for being the best selling machine of all time!  Classic!

In my humble opinion, my favorite games cam out out of the early to mid 90's... lots to do within the game, but not too gimmicky.  Story was always important to me.

T2 is soooo goooood.  I also loved the Jurassic Park table.  Blastin' Raptors in the bonus round!  :D

I also remember at one of the arcades we'd frequent they brought in a Super Mario Bros pinball game.  I remember it being pretty fun but the next time we went there it was gone.

Yea, that's why I found it funny it was one of the highlighted machines in this clip. The thing, like most others, is a piece of art! I have actually looked into purchasing one on a couple occasions but is always too rich for my blood.

It is also a mid 90's machine. I think he mentioned it was released in 1994. It's very streamline which keeps you playing and in the groove. The perfect amount of bells and whistles so to speak.

It's a difficult game to get continuous free plays on because, like others, after you win a free game the points needed to win another free play increases. It continues to increase until you lose. It's really about the perfect combination of free plays and matches, both skill and luck.

Yeah, that became a standard somewhere along the way (the increase in score).  I played Theatre of Magic last night and had a killer game!!  I got a free game because of the high score, THEN they game me a second FREE game for getting 2nd place in the high score, and lastly a 3rd FREE game because "special" was lit and I hit it.  I couldn't believe it!!!

I've broken into the top 3 before - and I know some machines give an extra game for doing so, but I have never gotten a "special" before ALL IN THE SAME GAME!  I was jacked!

And then my next two free games were truly horrible.  The ball just drained on me again and again lol... some free game, eh?  But the third one I did pretty well at, nothing spectacular though.

great thread, i love pinball, have as long as i can remember. my (former)employer had a brand new pinball of wizard of oz in our game room, it is probably the prettiest pinball game i've ever played and if anybody is a pinball junkie, and can find this machine(it's brand new)anywhere i highly reccommend playing a couple games, even though it's the highest pinball game i've ever played at 1dollar per play. it's just amazing how techy the game is, and i think it'll astonish all that play it.

I've never played the Jurrasic Park table, sounds fun!  WHAAAATTT - the have a Mario PINBALL?????  Nintendo AND Pinball COMBINED?  That would be awesome, I sooooo wanna play this now.  I'm curious who made it, and how good it is, I'm gonna go google it!!!

I'm curious about the Wiz of Oz too - sounds fun!  Most of the pinball machines I come across now days are $1.  At the arcade I referenced at the top of this thread, he has a few that are 75 cents.  Most of the new ones are $1... but he has some REALLY old ones.  Like from the 70's and 60's and those are 25 cents (but I have to admit, they aren't very fun lol... I guess you get what you pay for).

I'm gonna go google the Wiz one too!

All this pinball talk made me remember this one game...

Atari's HERCULES which billed itself as "The World's Largest Pinball Game".  It was so big the ball was a pool cueball!

Wow this is cool. There are a few barcades in my area and have a nice selection of pinball machines but I don't thnk any f them are strictly pinball. Love that he gave a shout out to creature from black lagoon, my brother might have built his. He worked on the assmbly line in the 90's and I remember him being able to bring home as scratched hologram from that game cuz they couldn't use it. I was so jelly at the time I was so into holograms. Sadly he's lost it over the years.

My sister currently owns a demolition man machine, and that one is pretty cool too.

That thing looks HUGE... I can't imagine playing pinball with a cue ball. Thanks for sharing, dude!  I actually had never heard of the machine before.  I wonder how much more they charged to play it back in the day - I'm sure it must have been pricier than whatever the going pinball rate was at that time.

When I was in highs cool there was a pizzeria that had the Demolition Man and I played the hell out of that thing.  It was a fun game, the guy in the video at the top of the page has a Demolition Man at his arcade.
