Just wondering if there are any other original art collectors on the site?   I would love to see what pieces related to little rubber guys people might have.

I posted some fistful of aliens design docs and original pre-production sketches earlier here http://www.littlerub...opic=215049&hl=

but I also have the original card art for FOA (fistful of aliens) as well.   Anybody else have any of the published packaging art for other lines or anything?   Would love to see it!

Here's the card art.  Excuse the poor photo.   As you can see by the size relative to the chair its about two feet by two feet, crazy amount of work into something that was only reproduced a few inches large!

cheers!

Thanks a lot.   How do I get art?   Any way I can! :)

Seriously though, I didn't say it was easy..    Its extremely rewarding though when you get art that you care about.

I'm hoping there's some other pieces hiding here on the boards to look at :)

I own some pretty boss comic art. Conventions are a good place to build up contacts. A lot of comic art dealers also deal toy package art as there's usually crossover appeal, not to mention a lot of artists worked in both industries.

I do remember seeing a small piece from the back of a MOTU figure by Dave Stevens recently from a comic art dealer but it was tiny, not very exciting, and $4k or so IIRC ( I might have it wrong but the piece was extremely underwhelming relative to price).   For pretty decent money like that I want something that was on the front of the package at least!

I get that stevens gets a premium but he in particular usually gets a premium for work that has sexy females not MOTU roided up dudes!

I can recall seeing a couple MOTU painted card arts (fronts not backs) that went around 4k each but that was many years ago (6 or so) so it seems 'cheap' today.    I know most of the GI Joe art is still with hasbro but 7-8 pieces are out, one went for about 20k (some vehicle) a while back.    Transformers stuff is more out there with stuff going like 1-10k range from what I've seen and heard.    Mostly on the lower end, 1-3k for the less well known ones and only the better known early ones for the big bucks with the really early ones like Megatron that would go for huge bucks (way more than 10k) unaccounted for because if I recall correctly the first year arts were lifted from the japanese toy line, so there is no north american art for the first year IIRC.   If anybody is interested they put together a book on TF card art (should be out around now) that you can buy on amazon.    I can recall a very small painting that went on the backs of the star wars figure cards going for 50k about 7 years ago.   Quite a shocker as the painting was tiny and barely noticeable, but there's a big following for star wars I guess and all those cards have photos instead of art so I guess there is nothing else to be had.

What other figure art have you seen around?

But those are action figures generally - any intel on art from "little rubber guy" toy lines in particular?    I get that there is probably not a ton out there, but if no one here knows, I'm not sure where else to ask at this point :/

The pieces I own were once in an online gallery I built. I took the gallery down because people were trying to buy my art, or reposting things from the gallery without a redirect or credit of any kind.

I love my collection, and loved sharing it, but just got tired of seeing my collection reposted without context.

It is always great to see the original art show up but saddly enough most of it we will never ever see I´m afraid simply because its been destroyed or it is collecting dust at an attic of former Toy Company employees.

When it comes to the Battle Beasts line we´ve been able to gather quite a bit of info, and still doing so by the way, about the origin of this line with the Beastformers Archeology project and this also includes some original artwork that was collected via a former Hasbro employee. For more info please check out the BA Index: http://www.littlerub...204039&p=562170

Original artwork of these vintage lines rarely shows up these days so its probably the lucky find we all hope to bump into someday........

If I recounted even a fraction of the horror stories I've heard through the years about lost, destroyed, or missing art, you'd weep.

I recommend the book "Comics: Between the Panels". An amazing background history of the world of comics.

Yeah I've heard those stories as they relate to vintage comic art but figure and LRG stuff is a bit of a different beast. I'm not sure we , or at least I , know enough about what happened to the art for various lines to draw any real conclusions. As appears to be the case with the beast formers stuff and with vintage GI Joe it may just be owned by the companies involved. I believe most all of the MOTU art is owned by the toy company as well. You're absolutely right that LRG art might have been destroyed as well though. Hard to say :/

There's really no way of knowing, unless it starts to surface.

I'm sure more of it is out there than we know about, but just how much is anybody's guess.

I´m not really sure about the sizes of these pieces but if I remember correct they were about A3 size or so but its for sure that similar like the artwork piece you have the original produced headers or whatsoever were smaller than the original pieces. Not sure if we mentioned the size somewhere it the topics but otherwise I can ask to some of the people who these pieces belong to in case they might not look into this topic and come with this reply themselves.

Do you know if the art has shown up for any other lines?

Pretty sure there´s some more original artwork around here on the board but I´m only into the Battle Beasts so I can´t tell you anything about the other lines discussed here so you´ve to ask or await replies from other LRG collectors who´re into some of the other lines.

In this particular case of the BB though it looks like we´ve been lucky that some of these pieces which obviously should´ve never turned up out in the open came indirectly from Hasbro and seem to have been leaked via a related company who did some other BB related production piece. If you really want to know more about the line itself as well as the backstories and thus were and how the original artwork originated from you´ll really have to dig into the facts and stories behind these lines but this ain´t easy since a lot of connections are completely gone or stories have faded. With the Beastformers Archeology (BA) project we´ve been pretty succesful so far finding some pieces together with some background info but this is only because people are willing to share and participate in order to share the story and history of this line simply because we share the same passion for this line but it looks like these kind of things are pretty rare amongst collectors since in some cases people just aren´t willing to share......

Good luck with the hunt for original artwork and keep on sharing what you find because I´m pretty sure more LRG members really appreciate original artwork regardless the line!

love original art, but don't have a lot. some test covers for a few comics, I have an original page from a MMPR issue signed by the artist and Rocky, I have a few original photos used for Godzilla Lobby cards and just got in a Wendy Model sheet from peter pan.
