Hi people

I recently discovered I have Aspergers (high functioning Autism). It explains a lot like my dislike of social situations and my obsessions I get.

Anyone else have it?

I have found that has helped as regards to creating my Flickr account, but damn it makes life hard at times.

I don't know if you'll get many people responding to this.

I know several people who also have been diagnosed with Asperger's, so I can comfortably say I understand some of the things that make your life hard.

You're a part of a pretty good community at LRG, so you shouldn't find much hardship here. ;)

Somewhere, I have a piece of paper stating that I am sane.  Long story, but I had to prove it once, years ago.

I don't actually have any disorders, which is kind of amazing - I had meningitis as an infant, and my chances of escaping without developmental disorders were extremely small, so I'm honestly grateful every day that I'm doing fine.  (though sometimes, I have my doubts...heheheHAHAHAHAHA).

Anyway, to what Draznar said - yes, you're in a really good community here.  ay back in 2003-ish, we had someone wielding Aspergers like a club with his posts, and he got mocked more for his behavior than the disorder.  But honestly, you're pretty cool, so don't worry about anything like that happening :-)

I'm functioning fine, but with the level of obsession, research and attention to detail. I think that a lot of people here most likely have autistic traits.

I'm not afraid to be out about it. I embrace it now

If you broke it down like that, I don't doubt you'd see those traits in many people who don't have diagnoses!

Like you say though, you're not afraid to be open about it. Many people are, given the stigmas that society applies to people who are different, (especially with asperger's).

All that being said, we try to keep LRG as open and friendly as possible. So long as you aren't an anus, we really aren't worried about things like this. We've had some very eccentric members in our past.

We're all just here to share our love of mini figures!

Well I would say that I myself do have these traits (Obsessive about very specific subjects, research things till the cows come home so i know EVERY detail and all the imperfections is mostly what i obsess about learning on [more specifically car's], i also would call myself a perfectionist... not that i do perfect work but it needs to appear perfect in my eyes i guess?) but dont have any sort of diagnosis. I also have never had to get checked for ADHD which from what I do know is usually how the diagnosis starts, Ive never had issues with attention spand or learning in school so it was never brought up i guess?

That said I do have something that has always kept me different from everyone else. When I was born my left hand did not form properly and my left arm/hand is covered in birthmarks. My pinky, ring, and pointer fingers on my left hand are short, missing bone, and overall deformed though still functional. Its also my hand, something never covered and in plain sight at all times. This makes some things harder for me i guess and SUPER glad i dont like to play guitar haha or id be screwed!

I still never let these things keep me down and just because you were diagnosed doesn't mean you are any different of a person than you were before! Hell who says these traits are bad things anyway haha? I could ID pretty much any car in the world, tell you the detail specifics of its engine and drivetrain then find you one for sale in your area LOL! I can also type at over 100 WPM (or so say the testing program ive used in the past).

I know for a fact that the lrg community is a niche thing, so the people here are more open to different things I think.

I've been a member for quite a while, so I've seen the comings and goings of the forum

Yeah, I see that you've been here for awhile but I don't recognize you. You took a hiatus from the boards, right?

I reckon there must be a higher prevalence of Asperger's in the collecting community, so it's likely there's quite a few here with it, or something like it.

Though I definitely possess some of the traits for AS, I'm pretty sure I don't have it; however I definitely have mild OCD, so I had to alter your topic title from Asbergers to Asperger's for my own sanity. I hope you don't mind.

Yeah I got into art around 2012, so stopped searching for LRGs at sales. Started going out painting abandoned warehouses instead.
But decided to try and do both on a less obsessed scale

Of course I don't mind, my grammar is quite poor.

I wanted to do this post just to make people more aware and to just let people know that having Autism means that we are just wired differently, that's all and that's it's ok to be open about what's different about us as individuals.

Differences certainly make us who we are and I wouldn't have it any other way. Autism is a wondrous thing, some autistic savants have done things no one else in the world could ever do (unless a savant themselves). Obsessiveness In my opinion is not really a bad thing at all, some of the greatest things that have ever been created/invented come from obsessive people who just wouldn't give up! Some of the greatest artist, thinkers, mathematicians, etc, etc could go on, have been autistic or at least held those traits (who knows? Ben Franklin? They didn't know about higher level autism back then so its not like anyone could have been diagnosed).
